From what I understand the online capabilities for the Wii won't be out until Q1 2007, but once it comes out I was pondering the possibilities of a Mario MMORPG in the future. His cute little face has been in RPGs before, and in almost every other genre except FPS and RTS (that I know of). If you think about it, there's actually a pretty good lore and storyline built up over the years, so I could see it being a possibility.
The real question I have though: Would anyone want to play it?
What greater tribute to free will than the power to question the highest of authority? What greater display of loyalty than blind faith? What greater gift than free will? What greater love than loyalty?

Agreed, not enough story, lore, or combat types to make an MMO.....Not to mention itd be retardedly childish, maybe an MMO intended for the 10 and under market.
I mean dont get me wrong i like some of the mario rpg's myself but as an MMO? No way.
Paper mario online eh? In a polished maple story clone way it could work.
Why not do it? And so what if its for kids.
Theres nothing wrong with games like maple story and toon town online.
A zelda mmorpg if done correct could get absurd in its popularity.

i dont think it would make much money...
and maplestory works just fine for me
Yeah, there's more of what I was thinking too, not too sure if a paper mario online would interest me, but with the great physics and action that most 3D mario games have, I could be interested in an online version of that.

You can't make a Mario MMORPG. Everyone shall look the same then! But you can create a MMO in the Mushroom Kingdom (you guys know what that is right?). That would be fun, I like Mario, and love Nintendo, I would play.
I dont see any reason why not to try it. Many people grew up on mario after all and such an mmo could work if it was done right look at the past they said you couldnt make a proper 3d platformer back them but then nintendo did super mario 64 and later supermario sunshine.
There past record shows that if anything they can be inovative and can think outside of the box so Meh who knows how it will turn out if they tried it at least we will see something inovative that while may not make a hugly successfull game will at least show the other softare houses other ways of making mmo's apart from the everquest style of gaming.

as far as Nintendo MMO's go, I would like to see a Pokemon MMORPG, I mean come on, actually going up and challenging other trainers to duels, not knowing if they're pokemon are stronger or weaker than yours, tournaments and championships. Maybe even a way for the best 4 players to become the Elite 4 (I think that's what they were called in the game lol). The only real problem I can see is it being overrun by a kiddy population. Same goes with a game set in the mushroom kingdom. And we all know that a childish population equals stupid comments and a broken economy. So while I'd like to see either of these concepts, I doubt I would play them for very long at all.
A Work in Progress.

But Sims meets Mario...
In a Mario MMO, I'd imagine having a variety of jobs/occupations, with lots of npcs, instances, and mostly groups of 3-4 max to keep in the spirit of Mario...
Personally, I'm a bigger fan of the platformers than the rpg marios... So I'd imagine it being an MMOPlatformer more, and maybe have some player made content/dungeons too? Personally, if it was ever created, I'd see it more like the Sims or Second Life more, about social interaction and/or small group adventures...
Personally i think Nintendo needs to stop humping the Mario franchise.
Thumbs down

playing eq2 and two worlds
If they kept the game simple I think it could shine.
But pay monthly for such a game, I would not.
On the Nintendo product side I do see Pokemon turning MMO soewhere down the line, it's the next logical step now Nintendo are finally getting there feet wet online, also with the plot being enchanced by new hunters Metroid can actally go FPSMMO quite well imo, other then those two without drasically changing plots I don't think many can turn MMO
Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!
I think you cannot call it MMORPG.
It's just an online game....a real (MMO)RPG requires: Equipment to use and Skills....and you have to chat with Wii- but how? Keyboard for Wii?
His name is Yoshi!! Blasphemer!!
