ok i need your guyses opinions. ok today was only my second day but first day on the lot selling cars. i work at northern californias number one toyota dealer.

my question is "if you came to a car lot looking for a car would you want striaght up honesty or a bunch of bs?? what do you all expect?? honesty or a little bit of both or just bs?

well my approach my first day was straight up honesty and i will tell you what my balls got kicked more than if i was tied down and a sign saying kick me was placed next to my balls. its wierd people always say they want honesty and you give it to them on a car lot and its like "damn i want you to lie to me" thats my impression of my real first day. so tell me what you think.::::20::::::28::

well i know for a fact that you'll never get honesty from a car salesman. if i were you, i'd learn to lie really quickly, because people will assume you're lying about most things anyway, so you may as well.

Consumers are too well-informed when it comes to car buygin nowadays. You won't be able to "sell a car" like you could 20 years ago. You just have to hope you are the salesman that runs into someone buying a car. I'd start looking for a new jobn in case things don't work out. I'm sorry if that sounds mean.

too much honesty is not good, you gotta put a little bs in there to be effective.

Honesty, but you can take up stuff and still be honest.  Stretching the truth isn't always lying. image

You'll never make it in the car sales world unless your willing to steal the customers deposit. And if you can steal several customers deposits, and get away with it, you're ready for a political job in Congress. Once you get into Congress, you steal bigger, and better, and screw guys and girls equally, regardless of age. Then you're ready for the job of President. Once you've proved how corrupt and immoral you can be as President, you'll never have to work again.

    The circle of life....

Honesty.  Otherwise you look like some sort of assfuck.  People don't like car dealers, because the bull shit eveything just to get a sale.

interesting. see there are things i dont mind stretching alittle but when we as in the sales people are there all we are there to do is help you find the exact car you are looking for and then get you inside show you numbers. from there its all the consumer they can take those numbers and go look around or stay and see what we can do for them. no obligation. the only time theres a obligation is when they go to finance and sign the paperwork.

but people seem to think if they test drive or go inside to look at numbers there obligated and there not. humans are wierd when it comes to buying a car. but really im loving the job. oh and just to let people know toyota only marks the cars up 8 percent from what they buy the car from the manufacture. so its not like we are out there rapeing people 8 percent on a car as opposed to 500 percent for a ring or get this it costs a pizza joint roughly $1 to make a large pizza if not a little less but you spend 9 or 10 dollars for it you do the math.

Not that I've ever bought anything other than my poor, abused, ancient Jetta but I'd go with honesty 100% of the time.

I'm the kind of person that will research something endlessly before I buy it, especially if it's something I have no clue about (like cars). The first wiff of BS from a salesperson and I'll call them on it, if I'm wrong then fine but IF I know for sure they are just blowing fluff up my butt, then I'm out of there.

Let me tell you something from my experience of selling home electronics and theatre systems for 4 years in a former life.

People say they want honesty, but most don't buy the best product at the best price with the best service unless they like you. That is the dishonest part that a successful salesperson needs to understand. The most successful salespeople can't be truly honest because they are required to roleplay and bond with the customer, wether there is a legitimate connection or not. This results in a lot of bullshitting and dishonesty regardless of wether you represent your product and service honestly.

That is why I eventually got out of sales even though I was ranked in the top 10% of my region and enjoyed it for several years. What I enjoyed was the product more than actually selling. It seems I am too pragmatic when it comes to shopping, because I could care less wether I like the salesperson or not as long as they are not jerks to me. Purchasing a product or service should be all about what you're looking to buy and wether it satisfies your needs, not wether or not the salesperson working with you likes the same football team as you, but a lot of people will buy because of those kinds of retarded bonding considerations, even ignoring a better deal from another salesperson they worked with previously on the same product at another location simply because the other salesperson was honest and direct and didn't perform a song and dance routine in order to bond with them.

Sales is a tough business, can be lucrative, but in order to be really successful, you have to learn to behave dishonestly in order to bond with the customer and that just doesn't work for me.

One thing you should never do is tell our customer that you think he is lying about something.  Im a 20 year old guy with next to no credit.  When I bought a new car this past July the asshole manager at this one lot I went to told me there was no way in hell I was getting a 6.5% APR being 20 years old, in college, with no credit and a $1000 a month income.  I had the freakin loan check in my wallet and he had the nerve to tell me that he though I was lying to him.  He even told me he was going to contact my bank and ask if thats what was really happening.  I called my bank after I left and told them not to give out any information to this dick wad.

Also never tell your customer a price for a car doesnt exist unless you really think the customer hasnt done the research.  The same guy told me that I could never find my car for $17k, that there wasn't one at that price that existed in the whole U.S. at that price.  The next day another dealer called me and offered me a car for that price, plus a 2007 model instead of the 2006.

Felt good to call that manager and tell him I got the car he said didn't exist and told him to f*ck himself.

If you don't BS you won't sell cars, simple as that.

Just don't BS where it gets you in trouble.

The raping is done with the financing and ideas like leasing the car.

I shoot for the curve... anything above that is gravy.
