People thought WOW took the MMORPG world by storm, imagine a D3 MMORPG.....
I just dont think that Blizzard would be stupid enough not to make it into a MMORPG. WOW will make them more money then perhaps Warcraft, Diablo, and Starcraft combined. Making another MMORPG just makes too much sense.

I'm not sure if Diablo 3 as an MMORPG would work very well. If it was set up like an MMO, I think it would have to play like DDO.
In my opinion, the appeal of Diablo was the gratification of hack-and-slash, loot hunting, and the most enjoyable PvP/Skill system I've ever encountered. If they turned it into WoW, I'd be disappointed.
Personally, if I was Blizzard, I'd make Diablo 3 an extraordinarily casual project. Take time on it's production, focus on making the PvP challenging and enjoyable, adding content to appease a new generation, while staying true to their roots. Release it as a free-play game once again in 2-3 years. As others said, there'd be no sense in creating competition against themselves.
In the short term though, Starcraft 2 would be extremely desirable
Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...
you say that WoW is their cash cow.... but why just stick with that? if they made diablo 3 and charged jsut as many people for that to play they would make more of a killing.
i am personally an x-wow player only because i got bored of it.
and im sure theres plenty more of people like me who would play diablo 3 but not wow
everybody gets bored with a game at some point. that's natural.. you once liked barney, winnie the pooh, big bird and the snufful..up..a..gus (wullymammoth looking) thing. now you wish they were in-game NPC's that you can slaughter and poke sticks into. WoW speaks for itself, as well as the 8+million of players subscribed to it around the world. no individual's opinion means anything compared to that. "crap"? someone said? there's 8 million + reasons to not listen to you. Blizzard is not naive. they're the best in the business and I hope i get to work with them in the future. making another game while this one is doing so well, that would be a noob move. so no. you can figure they have plenty of funds for their future projects. but they won't give us anything new until they see business in WoW starting to dwindle. not til then will they give us something new and exciting because look at it from their perspective. they are making a fortune on one game. if they brought us something new with monthly fees, obviously it will be awesome and will make us say "wow" in no reference to warcraft, but it would pull people from WoW to the new game and they wouldn't make as much as they would if they wait til the mounds of cash start to slowly stop rising, then they know it's time for something new, where they've already lost the interest of enough people in WoW to where they can snatch them back to their new game. that's just one perspective.
another reason is if they give us something new too soon.. how long would we have to wait til the next big thing.. and they should be waiting, giving enough time between projects. otherwise where's their future going to end up.. having no plans, ideas.. nothin else to do.
Blizzard is more than just Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo. check out their site, they have some gameboy games too, they're interesting. but i think it's time to bring back starcraft, personally. Starcraft: Ghost was a flump, unfortunately.. personally i think RTS games are out, MMORPGs are the thing. FPSs have a shot however. I coudl go on about that but that doesn't belong in this thread.
sorry i have more to say.. the original post states that Blizzard is greedy, while in fact would you not do the same thing if you had the power to seduce gamers into paying YOU to play YOUR game? at the same time there are a lot of people still working on the game, hence the patches you download? where do you think all that comes from? they aren't going to work for free. nobody should. those poor chinamen.
now the thing that keeps bugging me is how everyone says "they should have more/different classes.. such as a monk, warrior, priest, eeevil priest, the boogeymen" ok, yes i made that last one up to push my point over the edge... that is a naive suggestion. no offense. but just to point out the STORY-LINE.. I don't know for sure but I don't know how many monks run around the outskirts of hell seeking demons to vanquish.. of course if Bulletproof Monk were there.. oh he would be more like an assassin. hot stuff baby. so think before you speak.. before suggesting such thoughtful ideas, do your research.
as far as storyline-2-game transitions go, the difference warcraft has from diablo is the multi-race/class selections and especially the war between the two factions; whereas diablo is merely good vs evil, human vs demon. its all good stuff really, but its a lot harder to make into something successful like WoW in this day n age. everybody in Diablo is on one side story-wise.. so pvp is even more pointless, its not even following the story set in game.. it just makes you retarded killing each other for pride.
i wonder if greedy old blizzard will make us pay monthly for diablo 3? what do you think? also i wonder what new classes they will bring out... because lets be honest in most rpg / mmorpg there are the same or near enough the same classes in each game
my ideas for the new/old classes that would be put in to the game are
druid/warrior/assasin/mage/necro/amazon
then for some new ones like
vampire?
vampire hunter?
a preist and maby an evil preist for the underworld side
what do you guys think?
Greedy old Blizzard? How the hell do you figure?
Let’s take a look.
Everquest just recently celebrated its 8 year anniversary, and in that time they have released 13 (count 'em, 13) expansion packs, a sequel in 2004, and 3 expansion packs for that. That's roughly 1.6 sequels per year for the original and 1 per year for EQ2 (not to mention several micro-payment content packs).
Meanwhile, World of Warcraft was released in late November 2004 and The Burning Crusade was launched in mid January 2007. That is 1 expansion pack in about 38 months. During that time, Blizzard released 12 FREE major content patches.
Contrast this with City of Heroes which was released April 2004, with an expansion pack about 18 months later, and only 8 free content patches in about 35 months (the ninth is very near release) of operation.
Compared to the competition, Blizzard offers the most free content and milks the least from it's customers with Ex-packs for that $15 a month. Greedy? Hardly. It's actually the most economically fair MMO on the market today. The fact that they have 8 million customers is not a testament to their greed, but rather their blazing success.
As for Diablo 3, I predict a niche game with no monthly fee similar to both Guild Wars and Age of Conan. A mature, fast-paced, semi-single player action MMORPG focused on both solo and group PvP but with a solid main story line underlying everything. It'll probably involve a war between good and evil / heaven and hell that you can play on either side. Exactly how much will be instanced is anyone's guess. It will be a tremendous success, a testament to both fan appeal and pure design talent.

What do I think? I think you are a moron. Blizzard greedy? Wake up and smell the toe jam buddy! Blizzard took over two years to get out it's first paid expansion of the game. That doesn't sound like greed to me. Blizzard has free updates very regularly that other companies like SoE and Turbine would have gladly charged us for. The next time you decide to call a company greedy, at least look in the right direction because Blizzard isn't it. Stop being so jealous of Blizzard because they got it right where all the others are still trying to figure it out.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
i dont like warcraft, but if they make a diablo 3/starcraft 2 i would def buy it. also, if they made a world of diablo/starcraft i would be on board for it, although i really prefer starcraft.
I thought when they started working on Hellgate:London they were scratching the idea of Diablo 3?
Flagship Studios, ex-Blizzard employees, is currently developing Hellgate: London. If I'm not mistaken, most of those were behind Diablo 2 and very few of the remaining are still working for Blizzard or other companies not mentioned.
Comments
Monk
Rogue (thief for anyone who remembers when games weren’t PC)
Maybe some amalgamation class. One that can use weapons’ of other classes and or skills there of.
Id also like to see a little more customizable characters.
