How has the game changed since...

I quit EQ2 just a little after the combat change and expansion that added the desert like area, I forgot the name haha.

How much has it changed since then and what type of servers are the best to play on if I wanted to start from scratch and is there a good playerbase ?

the game has totally changed since DoF and if your looking to start new dont join Guk (all high levels would be impossible to group at a low level almost) Everfrost (low server population so also a bit hard to find groups) those are the only 2 servers ive played on so i cant really say which server is the best :X

There was an achievement system that was added after kingdom of sky to allow alternate advancement for each class.  It was again expanded with EoF to split off class and class types in alternate achievement (Ex:Mystic and a seperate shaman line).  There is a new diety system in place which add benefits accordingly.  Crafting has had some changes in that there are no longer subcombines.  There is only a finished product craft.  There are also new gathering tools cutting down gathering time considerably.  The EoF box has all of the expansions, so if your thinking of getting back in, and you are missing at least one other, its the way to go.  Digital download does not include all expansions, just EoF.  I play on permafrost and since day 1 it seems fairly well balanced in population.  It's been very populated  lately but overall since the beginning there are still lots of lower toons running around, with greater faydark (elf, dwarf, fae alternate starting town) being the most populated newbie zone.
