You do not take into account the possibilities like there being no reasonable options available to some people.
Lets put it like this i live in finland and we have 3 burger chains there mcdonalds hesburger and scanburger, i actually prefer burgers from the latter 2. Still when i go to sweden i eat at burger king. If burger king came to sweden i would eat there more.
I consider this the same with wow, you have some options as to other games but some people can't really find one wich suits them the same etc at the moment. But when one does come im quite sure a lot of them will move. That is people who actually know what a proper mmorpg is and know where to check. Like on mmorpg.com.
The main thing here tho is that id say 90 or so percent of wow players are on their first and possible only mmorpg ever. They do not know of better and might never know. Since wow has mainly attracted players from the rts scene or friends of people form there. A lot of people started playing wow because of the rts games. I know i betatested it.
Im quite sure vanguard spellborn and Warhammer will take their share of wow players.
my 2 cents.
Played: UO, DaOC, Ryzom, WoW, D&D online, EvE, not to mention given quick tries to a dozen others.

And am so glad i left because now there giving away my grand marshal weapons that took me 6 months at 16 hours a day everyday to get, for a couple days of pvp. well i would have left over that anyways so lol seeya blizzard
Yeah, so you played 16 hours a day for 6 months, yet you claim to hate the game?

Yeah, so you played 16 hours a day for 6 months, yet you claim to hate the game?
That seems rather masochistic.
Ya it was now that i think about it , no i never hated it before they changed to x server bg's it was ok because we had some really good matches with the horde on our server and they where really good teams and you know them and it seemed more competative and fun
but after they changed i ran in a premade and it was like we never ever faced another premade it was always pugs because premades where afking out when they faced other premades i just didnt find it fun beating pugs 2000 -0 in ab every game same as wsg just wasnt fun steamrolling pugs
no ones bashing the game its a good game and well made forsure just wasnt for me am just stating my opinion

I think this thread was mistitled given the popularity and success of WoW it should be titled "why the minority of players dislike WoW so much"
I think the major reason a lot of older MMO gamers dislike WoW so much is it killed off so many older games with its popularity and this has left a lot of them with a bitter taste in there mouth for WoW. I did fall in that category my self when the game first game out. But after giving the game an honest shot later on down the road I can see that is where most of my dislike for it had come from. Over all its a realy a great game and if other company's (Mythic for one) would pull there head out there cracks they could learn from Blizzard how to give players an actual good game.
It's a slap in the face how little blizzard reinvests in WoW when they have such collossal income. Waiting around so long for BG's and raid content when they were supposed to be in the origianl release; TBC, no new classes, novelty and weak reskin jobs on the 'new' races etc.
Blizzard are taking the entire ground up budget of a MMO development every couple of months just in subs, but almost none of it is going back into the game's future, maybe it's all going to the shareholders - they must be happy if so, although once someone finally releases a serious new MMO contender I think they may regret milking their golden goose dry.
well lets see there was a 1000 reasons i didnt like it . the biggest reason i left wow and will never , ever pay them another cent is everything in the game is self centered and self servering . The big one for me was the way they would add stuff to the game like the rank 9 evis skill book and put it in a instance with a low drop rate the last day i played was the 15th run of Ubrs i made trying for that book without seeing it drop. Like wake up blizzard am a grand marshal rogue who dosent do instances why would i pay you to run the same instance over and over for some stupid skill book, but anyways that was it for me i deleted my one and only toon a grand marshal rogue and canceled . But every item in the game was like that just the stupidest most poorly designed game ive ever seen yup blizzard shouldn't try and force people to run there lame , boring ,repetitave instance's cause there are people like me who will say see ya And am so glad i left because now there giving away my grand marshal weapons that took me 6 months at 16 hours a day everyday to get, for a couple days of pvp. well i would have left over that anyways so lol seeya blizzard
No offence but you seem like the self centered one here. I have been reading your posts all over this forum. Bash this game about stupid stuff. then complain about this and that. and everytime its this game is self centered and designed to give you a headache. Wake up you retard!!! i dont care if your 44 or 144 you need to grow up a little bit. The game is aimed at instancing and questing. You not doing any quests or hating instances is your own fault for your hate of the game. Quit Complaining on forums about that garbage when you don't like a game and continue to go back to complain about it over and over... your like a snivelling lil brat. I don't give a damn if your the richest POS in the whole GD world. You should put that money to use and go to some kind of courtesy school or something. Im sick of reading your stupid snivelling BS. Go jump off a cliff if your life is that bad.

Just FYI - now all skills are available at the trainer - sadly the developers kinda rubbed the community the wrong way with this expansion. They made everything easy to get - things that people in pvp (especially on a pve server) took months to get ---- some people have attained these items in a matter of a weekend. Ridiculous is what it is. My guild ran 40 mans every day untill the patch came out - now the guild only has a percentage of it's crew logging in daily - which includes myself - I won't be back untill the expansion - and that probably won't save the game for me - currently looking for something else out there that's good.... any suggestions? Preferably something that you can solo and group in - something that required skills to play well...

I agree with you on that alot of the base on WoW is prolly people who started cause of its name. Warcraft was a very sucessful title. Though i didn't personally like that title i do like the hero control. Like Baulders gate Dark alliance. Diablo etc. I dont mean to sound like im putting anyone down. its just that from the games ive played online. though not alot. this is one of the best. I think the community is alot better than the other 4 Ive played. I want to try Vanguard while its in beta. I think it would be cool. I just hope it isnt as expensive as WoW.
Retired a lvl 97 char From Runescape. Had many more... cant remember them though
Some beta version game that was Lame got to lvl 10 and quit. Community sucked.
Helbreath beta and now the new one. Game decent. But lacking a community all together
ya i did do alot of quests and i even ran alot of the instances but i only did them to help other people out never for my own character cause i had all the grand marshal stuff and i liked been different I dont mean to bash WOW cause it is a good game that was really well made, blizzard just pisses me off the way they do things like the skill book i finally bought for 700 gold cause i couldnt stand running UBRS again lol
I know what you mean, but without that in the game people will quit a lot sooner cause they have everything. Look at RS. They loose people on a daily basis cause anything they want... they just fork money over to get. And then they kill people for a bit and get bored and quit. I played it for years and wasnt bored. Mad as hell sometimes but not bored. Its just the economy got so screwed up that anything worth a damn was easy to buy and anyone could wear with stat requirements. so the gear that was quest required became obsolete and no one wanted it cause it had to have a quest to use when they could get better without a quest. :S barrows or dragon LOL. thats why i quit that game. I just dont get why people sit in the forum of that game that they say they hate so bad and bash it. This game happens to be enjoyable at the moment to me... only played a month... Im not a fanboy by anymeans but when i got friends that play it sure ill play for a while... helps when you actually know your whole guild by first and last name. can see them everyday and know thier personality.
I thought it was a great game and really fun. Only reason I stopped playing was because I just didn't have the time to be spending hours and hours on the end instances. Definately one of the best mmo's out there tho imo.
I really don't think the addon is going to do WoW any good, I recon they will loose a lot of players over it. Addons in MMOs have a habbit of making to much changes and putting off old players.
Apparently the devs working on WoW now are not the origional ones, I hear they left somewhere around making level 40 content, which may explain why the game feels different (with more varied content) at lower levels.
people dont like wow because like alot of other games wow said they would do many diffrent things with their game, But then they just made an easier everquest and it caught on mainstream. there was nothing new to this game so most people that played mmos realized this and saw how crapy it was. probably one of the best parts in wow was the quest system but that dosnt really matter after the 60 easy lvls are over.
------------------------------------------------- Achiever 20.00%, Explorer 86.67%, Killer 60.00%, Socializer 33.33%
Well i personaly dont like it because to me the game is to much hype. I have to say yes the game is breaking new ground with making MMOG more out there then ever befro with haven 7 million accounts (sorry but i dont belive those are all active thoe just because people got 1 year accounts and have not loged the last 6 months to me does not make it active.) Thoe to me there is no reason for it to have 7 million accounts at all. I could see 1 million accounts. Now people that would never play a mmog are going to try wow out because they have so many players playing it.
Why this is good for MMOG market i think this is bad for MMOG in general because after wow drops and players leave the market is still going to go off those charts that show wow being so over rated with huge numbers. Now every MMOG wants to be the next wow and we are getting hit with way to many MMOG over the next 5 years we are going to have like 100 major ones on the market that i think is nuts lol.
Also i dont like wow because it is no diffrent then any other game. It is the same thing just a new skin and dumbed down to me. It is made way to much for the avg gammer. After a week of play for any MMOG real player the game is old and there is nothing new. Why eq2 ffxi are the same style there is more i feel to those games granted it is more grinding and quests and looting u have that in every game. BUt with the last few expansions the games have really started to come to and they really should have higher numbers but wow takes palyers away from picking up eq2 because it does not have 7 million accounts.
Just my feelings on it but if u like it great what ever makes u happy at the end of the day really is what matters. No matter what anyone else says. If others hate it like it could care less it should mean nothing to u if u are happy.
I played from release till BGs were made (about 5-6 months later).... I enjoyed the world-pvp, bar room brawls in booty-bay etc, that was the whole fun of the game imo. But when too many peeps would show up, the server would break down with too much lag, which is why BGs were created.... so it was a good game, good goal, but technically the internet just can't support open-ended world-pvp.
And I read about such promises being made by several up-coming games, and I'm thinking.... "same internet.... how is that gonna work?"... will see I guess.
I dont like the BGs at all....and the pvp isnt that great..........If you have ever played Dark Ages of Camelot, I'm sure you may feel the same. DAoC BGs and realm pvp was so much fun when I played. There is acutally a goal. What does capture the flag have to do with World of Warcraft.....and how is that training you to dominate a realm.
so you have 1000 reasons why you dont like it. Well there is 8 million active subscribers that have 1000 reasons why they do like it. Yes the new up and coming "Traditional" mmo's will take some players away from wow but not enough to even make a dent to the games player base.
So you think you can speak for 8 million other people , ok you got me its only 10 reasons but thats enough for me . I think you would be surprized at the amount of people that are just playing WoW to tide them over till some of the new titles come out. All's you have to do is go read blizzards own general forums, there is lots of people that are bored to death of WoW

It might just be me, but I think the expansion is to help give players something to do again, and give it a new and exciting add on to the game.
1. With millions of subscribers.. the population of less "glorified" people in the game is higher. I had not one guild, but three..three guilds, ripped to political, jealous threads after someone found out that someone's wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend was sleeping with or having cybersex with someone else in the guild. That.. was fun. And the more homework I did, the more I found, it was the norm. ...at least on an RP server.
2. Having a family, career and social life is so anti-helpful for Blizz's RAID system. As much as I would love to sit down for 3-5 hours at a time and kill stuff, my life just can't handle that. And.. well... seeing as that's the only option for questing @ 60... there goes that.
3. PVP. (Before the new non-rank system). Whoever played more, got more rank. ...See problem with 2. That.. and... the PVP just felt... boring.
4. Where are the barracks, death knights and waves of orcs rushing into the alliance walls? The World of Warcraft feels like EQ with WOW names. Where are my catapults? Wagons that throw fleshly strewn apart body parts? Where's my peon character who is fundamental to his outpost by building, harvesting and supporting the war effort?
5. The crafting is awful. Simply awful. No depth, what so ever.
Now.. so far.. I've listed the bad. What's good about WoW?
a. It absolutely revolutionized the industry. It took an extremely hot license and marketed it not as an MMORPG, but as a game where you could be part of the war! Yah! Woohoo for war! I know that's what got me interested. Get my orc and fellow trolls rushing against the tide of humans in an epic never ending war.. (Sadly.. the game never delivered that.)
b. Hopefully... the profits from WoW funds a Starcraft Online. Hehe.
c. Hopefully... SOE learns from WoW.. or.. Blizzard just takes over the Star Wars license.
Overall, I don't hate WoW. I just got bored. Really bored after about level 45. I've gone back twice. Once to try if the horde would be more interesting and the other.. ...to set my younger brother up on my old characters. I think WoW will be like EQ. Great for the status of MMOs, and live forever, but dwindle after the novelty wears off or someone comes out with the next great MMO. (Which.. in the near future.. I don't see. Down the road.. Huxley or Star Trek. ..possibly.)

Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
ya i did do alot of quests and i even ran alot of the instances but i only did them to help other people out never for my own character cause i had all the grand marshal stuff and i liked been different I dont mean to bash WOW cause it is a good game that was really well made, blizzard just pisses me off the way they do things like the skill book i finally bought for 700 gold cause i couldnt stand running UBRS again lol
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Apparently the devs working on WoW now are not the origional ones, I hear they left somewhere around making level 40 content, which may explain why the game feels different (with more varied content) at lower levels.
This is the same kind of thing that killed SWG.

If others hate it like it could care less it should mean nothing to u if u are happy.
just emulate wow on a site like rebelwow.com /funserver.. and buy everything! off vendors.
thats really boring stuff..
And I read about such promises being made by several up-coming games, and I'm thinking.... "same internet.... how is that gonna work?"... will see I guess.
It might just be me, but I think the expansion is to help give players something to do again, and give it a new and exciting add on to the game.
That's just me though.
Groovy.
WOW is like any other game's.. of course you will encountered some problem.. like other game's..
and now they have there expansion the burning crusader... it will give excitement to the the player's..
It might just be me, but I think the expansion is to help give players something to do again, and give it a new and exciting add on to the game.
That's just me though.
Ya forsure it will and you guys deserve it big time , nice to see them trying to do something that benefits the majority of there customers for a change
