$10 BETA

TzaleTzale Member Posts: 143

Hi,

I read that if you pay the $10 for the BETA kit your guaranteed to get into BETA. If I purchase the $10 kit online does that "REQUIRE" me to purchase CoH for the $49 when it's released? I don't know if i'll like the game, and Comp USA is offering the kits for $10 with all the extra's and a $10 gift card so it's literally free.

You are talking about the pre-order box.

If you go to a place like Gamestop or EB, you give them a deposit on the game (typically $5-$10) and that money goes towards a reserve for your copy.  That means they'll hold a copy of the game for you, plus the money you spent on the box will go towards the price of the game.  As for Comp USA and Best Buy, I've found that they don't typically honor the "Reserve" of the games, and you'll end up paying for the pre-order AND the full price of the game.  Does that help at all?

OK, cool so if I pay the $10 I'll get the pre-order box which will let me into BETA, but I won't be "required" to purchase the game. If I don't pay the remaining amount I'll just lose the $10 correct?

Sorry, I never pre-ordered games before :-) This game looks cool, but I don't know if I'll really like it so I don't want to drop $50 for it, but if I can pay $10 to test it that would be cool.

I went to Gamestop and got my "pre-order" box for half the amount of cash your talking about. Also Gamstop did not require me to purchase the game at the time of pre-ordering....but I wll buy it.

    Cool thanks!

  • Defently don't buy from BestBuy or Circut City ect Unless you don't mind paying the $10 on top of game cost. Not the first time it's happened but the casher looked at the price and stated she had never seen a game that cheap, in which I then tried to explain it was a pre-order ... She just rang me up and handed me a reciet. So I'd go to a real gaming store, I was just irrational and didn't mind an extra expendure for beta, name reserve, and a cool spiffy dash effect!!!!!

    See ya in game.

I as well purchased a preorder box, two in fact, from Best Buy under the impression that it would come off the price of the full game when I bought it there.  Works that way on their website, which I'm going to grab a screenprint of in case they give me a problem next month.  Otherwise, they'll have to explain to me how this "Preorder only * Full Version of Game Not Included* box can be software, and therefore cannot be returned.  image

One thing that I did just think of tho'...how exactly will everyone who has purchased this start the game 3 days ahead of the general public?  Does NCSoft plan on having the retail boxes at the B&M stores 3 days early?  Usually the day the games show up at your EB or BB, that's the day the game goes live.  Or...will the client that we download be fully functioning at that point...in essence, no longer a beta client?

So just because you found one ignorant gaming person at a Best Buy, youre gonna assume the entire country is clueless at Best Buy?  Thats about the most retarded thing I've heard in a while.

If its true that when you drop a cat it lands on its feet or if you drop toast it lands butter-side down... what happens if you strap toast to a cats back and drop it?

  • It's not just one person (stated in orginal post). Just at retail a store they just scan your item and go on with the transaction. When I have gone to other stores that just focus on games, they keep a list of who has pre-ordered. Its just the way the two seperate business operate and work. Nowhere on the reciet from bestbuy does it say bring this when purchasing your full copy, or how can it really be reserved if they don't even keep track of who all bought the pre-order copy? Also I wouldn't even call it an "ignorate gaming person" either because they have been the cashiers.

This isn't also just something i've had a problem with, every post mentioned something to as these stores don't live up to $10 off full version release. I'm not saying ban all bestbuys, I love the store, just in general it's retail store catering to many needs and sees it as a sale. Where as a store derectly devoded to selling games, would make sure to get that info and uphold the $10 off because it's thier target market and would just be stupid if they treated thier customers that way.

So forgive me if I just gave example reinforcing a comment and giving an example. I guess I just happened to get in the wrong line that didnt know to reserve a copy and take my information down. but good luck finding one.

Well, we'll have to wait and see what comes to be when the game goes to full retail.  I've printed out the current situation on the BB.com website, and while I know they rarely match their internet offers, here they may.  And if they don't....well, then the local EB will get my money as I give BB the proverbial finger.  image

your not REQUIRED to buy the game if you get the preorder copy to get into beta.. but u are spending 10$ for it still and if you do buy the game instead of 49$.. it will be 39 if you got the pre-released for 10$

I have Preordered LOTS for best buy. about 3 games and a few CD's and the 10 dollers DOSE come off the price. My word.. It would be illigal for them to charge you 10 dollers for the honor of Holding a box to sell you at a later date. I am pretty sure the Recept says this as well don't want to dig mine out..

Think MuppettHero is on the right track.  Receipt does say "City of Heroes Presell".  I guess that is a very strong arguement that it would be credited towards the future purchase...

Either way...first want to get into the beta...then will worry about the final release next month.  image

I got my pre-order box from Comp USA, it was $10 but had a $10 comp usa gift card inside.

so even if you didn't use it on the full version of the game you could still use your $10 gift card for something else.
