I Wont buy Vanguard. Thnx to you guys here :)

After readin all the postings and ratings here i came to the conclusion not to buy this game.

Why not ??

1st reason is that many people here complain about a huge grind fest.
2nd reason is that many people complain that after L15 the solo time is mostly over.
3rd reason is that i read that many people with High End systems have problems with grafics.
4th reason is that the game has to many Bugs and should be BETA. I hate beeing a paying beta tester.
5th reason it´s to expensive. 50$ + 15$ is to much for a game in Beta state. 35$ + 12$ would be fair.

So thnx alot to all the people here posting about this game on this board.

I honestly believe you made the right choice (but maybe you would have enjoyed it, who knows), All I know that if I could go back in time and not buy this game I would.

Sounds like you made an educated decision, no need to thank us.

    1. Huge grind fest to a lot of people who judge repetitive tasks as such; fact.

    2. Less soloable above level 15 than beneath it; fact.

    3. Many people with high end systems having problems with graphics; fact.

    4. Game was released early according to developers, which means it is indeed in a beta state; fact.

    5. Paying for beta can be seen as not worth paying by some; fact.

'course I still play, but you're absolutely right. Still, prepare to have your perfectly reasonable decision nitpicked apart by some people who'll proclaim just because their opinions are different, it isn't a fact that 'many' people feel the same as you.

My criteria for judging a new MMO are different.

    • Is there anything new or coming that makes me feel challenged & that first flush of being there?
    • Is there an EPIC world to explore that feels like you choose where you go and what you do, rather than being lead down a linear levelling railroad?
    • Do grouping dynamics and combat reward tactical play and have some depth of skill to them?
    • Does it live upto the multiplayer part of MMO and not seperate everyone into little instanced boxes away from each other, hindering community building?
    • Does it add to that"you're there" factor that exploring islands on a boat & vast continents on a flying mount & owning your own houses that properly exists in the world?
    • Does it have a good player crafter economy, or is crafting simply a fluff sideline?
    • Does it have epic quest lines & dungeon crawls & boss encounters that really feel hard and perilous and an achievement to complete?

Vanguard delivers on all those fronts for me, the rest of the stuff, well after a decade playing MMO's I can accept some release bugs, & I can turn a few graphical bells n whistles down, & will turn them back up in the future when I get newer hardware.

I came to the same conclusion as you (OP). Maybe LOTR will be able to hit the ground running when it comes out.

I guess if a forum agrees that jumping off a bridge is the right way to go, you will do that too right?

    dude, try things for yourself.

You can solo all the way to 50, you just wont get great gear.

There is no grind if you do quests. Quests give way more exp than grinding if you prefer it.

There is... you know what, I am not even gonna waste my time telling you what an awesome experience you are missing just cause you let other people think for you. I guess I am glad you arn't in this game, people like you is what a community does not need.

Don't know that to tell the OP, but I love Vanguard.  I have had very few issues performance wise, the game has a great community, and the game is excellent.  Not since DAoC have I had so much fun in an MMORPG.  Sigil needs to address the bugs as fast as possible, but in no way have any of the performance issues become game breakers for me, not even close.

Now playing Vanguard, but drooling for WAR

I think these forums are one of the worse sources to find out if a game is good or not.  This forum is filled with trolls of different shapes and sizes.  Trolls, that make new accounts and rate games at low ratings so their favorite game gets on the famous list. If I were you I would have just bought Vanguard, played it and enjoyed it... forget about what these people say on this forum.  Vanguard, is a good game.  Just needs some minor fixes.  No problem really.  Nothing will be perfect and people will never be satisfied.

There will always be some who will second guess you, regardless of the decision you make.

As long as you think your reasons are sound and that you are comfortable with your decision,

that is all that matters.  After all, it is your $50.

I would also take into consideration that restricting the use of buddy keys on this board is a

sign that someone wants your $50 rather than encouraging you to take a test drive (if only for

a few days) to see whether the game is for you or not.

There is nothing to say that you can't revisit your decision  in a few months to see if the game has

improved enough to merit a purchase.

Well, technically, he only informed those people who read his post despite the title which made it obvious what he was going to post about.

I wish I'd taken the "advice" of a lot of people up here and didn't toss away $50.00.

    Ah well. Live and learn.

You should go on Silky Venom to get an honest opinion ... that is my opinion.

Do some more research besides these boards ... Geeeeesshhhh.

I personally liked the game the only thing bad was they rushed the release and basically needs a pretty good rig to run. I would get the game later after the prices of pc's go down with the new ones coming out and for them to patch it up.

Do you know how many games i blew 50 bucks on because i didn't listen to the community? Hmmmm Vanguard(this game was ok and with my system i could run it on ultra high settings, but it was the same old boring "men in tights" type game), Horizonz, Dungeons and Dragons Online,  Shadowbane(fun for a month), SWG(fun for 2 months), AC2,etc...etc...etc.. And now i'll probably go blow another 50 on LOTRO and it will suck too

Then again alot of beta testers said WoW sucked, and it was fun for about 7 months.

If you can solo to 50 in VG, then you can solo to max in any game.  The question is: is it worth it and do you get reasonable progression?  The answer is no.  You will have to group.  To some, that's a good idea.  To others, it's a terrible idea.

Again, grinding is relative.  It's just a matter of how much time and patience the player has.

Quite frankly, I think the VG community will fare better without players like you.  The guy made a decision by collecting feedback.  Sure this particular forum has more negative reviews than positive, but certainly he can filter out what's trolling and what's reasonable.  My general feeling of the VG community is, it seemed to have collected a large group of judgemental and intolerate players.  Not all are like that but there's definitely a group that gives the community that "elitist" feeling.

i`ve tried playing this game and i find it very enjoyable at first but, then after awhile it really gets boring ....

i think this game would have done better if the guys behind it took more time to reobserve the game and fix bugs...

To the underlined part: I agree...

To the bold part: he might have played it, but he wouldn't have enjoyed it!

The only Vanguard fans are old fat EQers, people who are burnt out on EQ2 and want more of THE EXACT SAME, and people who think anything that isn't WoW is god.

You hit the VG community on the head, once all the "OMG SOE" people left it was nothing but the oldest, Brad McGay suck-offingest rejects on the internet.

This game will just be the "what guild are you in" game, Brad+cronies only hook up guilds with mod/dev/ect founders, and they get all the encounters, all the hookups and the only customer support.

As been said... poor poor mistake. Grind fest - WHEN? I am level 22 and only done quests up to that level... Never had to join ANY exp groups.

If you want to put your faith/trust in any forums... go ahead... but unless you try it for yourself you will NEVER be playing any mmo's...I can't remember when an mmo was released when people didnt have something to complain about.

If i took what people said seriously i would be kicking myself cos havnt had this much fun in an mmo for years

Ahh god, do what you want.

    Awesome

On the positive side the game i feel has potenal. give it 6 months to a year and i think it will be polished. kinda sad that they need players to polish the game that they promised would be complete at release. But Such is life. I think DDO has improved 10 fold coming up on its year aniversry. and I bet i will feel the same about this game. See you all in 6months to a year! keep giving the devs all your great ideas and keep on makeing the game better!

About the silliest thing you can do, next to starting a land war in Asia, is having others decide things for you. How do you know that Vanguard isn't for you? These people here can't tell you that. Sure, there's nothing wrong with gaining a little information about things, but at the end of the day, there's no harm in trying something and finding out for yourself. The fact that you were researching this game says you had interest in it. Now you may never know if Vanguard is 'your' game.

*shrug* Your loss, I suppose. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

You are most welcome OP, and you made a good decision! I think you can see from the flames and insults in this thread, and the self-deluded references to their own superiority (joke), what kind of community this game has. Would you really want to hang with these folks for years? Lol. Throw a dart at the mmorpg list of games, and whatever it hits will be better than this.
