It depends on how much time you are willing to devote to this game.
If your willing to spend most of your free time, plus take a few days off from your not free time, then you may enjoy Lineage2.
Other then great graphics it really offers nothing that isnt done in any other MMo out allready. But yes the game can be fun. Plus I have no doubt that the end game of castle siege and war will be great.
But on the other hand, its the ultimate treadmill. This game will make EQ look like a fast leveling game.
So it comes down to time, and your ability to make a treadmill fun.
This game is sooooo utterly fucking boring. The time it takes to lvl is completely insane. I'm lvl 13 right now, and it might take me about 4 hours to lvl just once. It just pisses me off that anyone would create a game that takes so much fucking time lvl up. The only people that can be successful in this game are people who don't have a "real life." This game is trash, and the Koreans even admit it because there is almost nothing new that this game brings to the MMORPG market. Pass this game up, and don't waste your money and your time.

the thing u dont seem to realise is this game isnt like those numerous other out there who allow you to cap out in a matter of months... one of the things that makes Lineage what it is (both 1 and 2) is its ability to keep long term players in by having high, end-game content and not allowing everybody to cap out in a matter of months... just because u like to have ur levels handed to u on a silver platter doesnt mean we have to... i, like many other lineage fans, like to actually work for our levels...
and as for "Koreans saying it sucks" thats the bigest load of crap ever... just in case u dont remember, Lineage 2 actually broke sales records by having over 130,000 pays subscriptions within the 1st week in Korea... and yes, that number is still growing (it could even possibly de-throne "Lineage 1" as the most popular MMORPG in the world in awhile... dont forget, this is the same country who has "Lineage 2" coke cans...
anyways back to u complaining about the leveling, theres many games out there for ur type... the type who want to cap out in a matter of weeks/months, and be just as strong as somebody who's devoted years into the game... for us however, the people who dont mind putting a little effort into ur character, and playing for the long run rather then meaningless, instant self gratification, we have Lineage 2...
I think Lineage2 is a great game, and Im going to play it for a long time. Yes its hard to level, and yes you have to make a quest to change your class... But thats the point, it should be hard. You lose 10% when you die and it takes houers to get back (after level 20), but you dont wana die anymore after that. So if you want a chalenge play Lineage 2, if you want to get to max lvl fast ..play asherons call 2, takes about a month to get to lvl 50.

I belive Soxx and Big hit the nail right on the head. Weather you like this game or not really does depend on weather or not you want to put time into your character. This game does require time to get to the higher levels. I really like this type of game, however if this is not your cup of tea, then you may want to try DAoC or AC2. I've played DAoC since release and I love the game. Then the time came for something new and different, this game really hits the spot for me. But this is just my personal pref.

Hmm...I was in a pretty bad mood last night. But seriously, what does this game offer(besides it graphics), that other mmorpgs don't offer at this time? Pets, and castle seiges is all I can think of, and castle seiges, to some extent, have already been done in Shadowbane.
The newb quests aren't very interesting in Lineage 2. "Go out and kill 70 of this and bring back there fangs." Does this challenge you to do something different than you have been doing for the past 5 hours, nope.
Another thing that is somewhat odd, is that the weapons do not have any skill or level requirements. If you were able to acquire a very nice weapon at lvl 50, you could create a new toon, give the weapon to a friend, and then have the friend give the weapon to your new toon, and you toon will be able to equip it.
One of the other things that also bothers me is that there is no stat based character customization other than increasing skills. You cannot increase strength, intelligence, dexterity, ect. It seems to me that once characters get into the higher levels they will be able to train all the skills and essentially everyone in that class will become the same character(except for equipment), since SP is earned through killing mobs rather than lvling.
Those are some of my gripes about this game. Oh, and when I was saying that Koreans don't even like this game I got my info from this thread on the IGN forums. http://boards.ign.com/Lineage/b5953/56216444/?3 . I know, I know, it isn't a very good source, but you have to remember I was in a bad mood last night, and I exaggerated a little.

This game is HARD. Its a challenge. Sometimes, I will admit I feel like its too hard. But its not too hard, I've just been playing for too many hours. Take a break. Maybe a day or two, and go back.
I personally enjoy the game a lot! I think its well done, interesting, and fun.
What I like about it best, is there is lots of HIGH LEVEL CONTENT. Its a bitch to get there, but the game doesn't seem to end when you do, much like using your last skill point in SWG felt like.

I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.
It's one hell of a level grind but if you don't pay attention to the levels and just enjoy yourself the game is very fun... I'm a VERY casual player, the only times I have much time to play are on my weekends and even that is spotty. But I'm having some fun with the game. Right now it's in open beta here in the states and I like it enough to have cancelled some other MMOs that I don't bother playing anymore. I probably won't wind up subscribing at this point but for now it is a fun game that I can play. Who knows, I may wind up hooked. The cool thing with Open PVP is you can pvp at any level, with anyone. A few moments ago, w hen I was in game, me and 4 other level 6's took down a level 15 (unheard of in some other PVP games).
So far, it's fun. Certainly worth trying out if you get into the open beta. I'm super picky on what I actually spend $$$ on though, so I don't know if it will make the cut or not for a subscription. At worst it's a fun diversion from real life

after the first few weapons i think 5 or so you need to be level 20+, D-grade item mastery
Yah, I find it ironic that someone level 13 is complaining about a level grind though. I made 15 in 4 days without much trouble at all. I dunno, maybe it gets tougher later on. But I haven't found the levels much harder to get than EQ's. Maybe you were just fighting creatures that were too far below you.
So far I've found the game to be very well paced and a lot of fun.

It's just that at level 13, the level grind is far to long for that low of a level and I wasn't fighting mobs a lot lower than me. I was fighting grizzlies and bats as an orc warrior.
I don't really understand why the devs made it so that players have to level up to 20 to pick their class. I think by level 10 or 15, people know what they want to do, and they know how to play the game by that time.
I've heard from at least 3 people that it takes longer to level in Lineage 2 than it does in EQ.

I played EQ for two years, Camelot for two years, and most all games inbetween. Playing City of Heroes right now. (So far , City is good fun, good graphics, good times.) I played Lineage two for a month. Some of the best graphics I've ever seen but what most peeps say here about being bland, slow, and death penalty overkill per ratio is true in my opinon. I never slam a game as who am I to say whats fun for you? All I know is me. It was to slow, hard, and most of all, when you are trying to kill a mob and three people come up from behind kill you, you lose a level and they stand there and laugh in your face, I have to ask myself, "This is fun?" So if you like hard, and getting stabbed in the back, by all means play it. Enjoy it. Thats what makes the world go round. Diversity.
I agree that it takes a lot of time to level but like others said, if you dont think much about leveling and just have fun meeting people, making money to buy stuff, and exploring the levels actually go by at an ok rate and you dont even really notice.
Also like what was said above there are grades to equipment from level 20 on that prevent the level 50 person giving one of the best swords or armors to a new player and that person being able to use it without a massive penalty. As you gain levels you get skills that allow you to use better grades of equipment. The grades are from lowest to highest D, C, B, A, and S.
Other then its graphics, classes, and world I am not sure that Lineage 2 offers anything that hasnt been done in another mmorpg but I dont really see how thats a problem. A game doesnt need to have new revolutionary ideas to be fun. I too enjoy it when a game comes along with a great new idea or way of play but can also enjoy the complete package of what Lineage 2 provides.
As you said very little of it is a brand new idea but the sum of its pieces does create a unique game with its own good and bad points. Lineage 2 is by no means my dream game but I am enjoying it quite a bit while I wait for something better. I have learned over my years playing mmorpgs that holding out for the next great thing tends to leave you hovering on a board and not playing much of anything.
Yeah I preordered and plan to play it till something better comes along. There really arent any mmorpgs coming out anytime soon that interest me so I will play it until its no longer fun.
I plan to try WoW and EQ2 when they come out but neither of them will be out for half a year or more and I really dont know if I will like them till I get to try them out.
MMORPGS and me have a funny relationship though. If it makes it past my first taste test and may enjoy it or even love it for a couple months then get tired of the less appealing parts of the game. Thats what happened with me and FFXI and I am hoping the same doesnt happen with L2. I played in closed beta and am still going strong so hopefully this will be a game I can enjoy in the long run. So far only EQ, which I played for 4 years, has made it past the 3 month mark with me.
I am playing on Kain right now. They mentioned that they may do character transfers after release to ease some of the strain on the original 3 servers which are packed.
If you like to hack and slash at monsters (like every other korean game) for 5 hours a day you will enjoy it. Otherwise, this game has nothing new.
I honestly could only imagine this game to hold hardcore Korean gamers but some people in north american enjoy it as well so i suggest you try open beta before it's gone.

I have to agree that the exp penalty from a death is a bit high in my opinion, but hey...it will make you pick your targets better and play a little smarter I guess.
I'm definately going to put a little more time into the game though to see how it goes. Maybe I'll enjoy it more after I've had a chance to explore more of the world.
I didn't like it. I tried to play and get to level 20, but I got as far as 14 and decided enough.
