"This game is not for everyone, it is hard, go back to WOW". "This game requires grouping". "This game is not casual friendly". Okay, now that we've got the bullshit buzz phrases out of the way, let me hold your hand a bit, tell you what I've found in the game, and give you some advice as to how to maximize your enjoyment.
Firstoff, all starting continents are NOT the same. Thestra is the oldest, most devloped, and most filled in. I started in Tanvu in Kojan, a virtual ghost town when compared to Thestra. In the area around Tanvu population centers are few and far between, with only one or two quest givers in a location. In Thestra you trip over small villages constantly. I am at a dam with about a dozen quest givers, all with multiple quests, literally allowing me a cornucopia of play choices. Kojan has harvesting nodes few and far between, Thestra you step over them constantly. Thestra has massive areas for high level characters, Kojan has few. Thestra has crafting areas scattered in the small settlements, Tanvu has no small settlements to scatter them in. Qalia lies in the middle in developement, and is actually quite acceptable, however I found Thestra best. Continent wise, Kojan poor, Qalia better, Thestra best.
I have travelled all three continents, started characters in most of the starting locations, and can say to the players that experience a boring grind, you may be in the wrong area. I have also solo'd most of my play time, it is quite feasible to do if you do not confine yourself to one continent. Get out and explore, adventure, don't get into the grinding treadmill rut.
So, if you find yourself as a level 11/12 in Tanvu, go down to the docks, locate the transport character, and GET THE HELL OUT. Go to the wood elf location, run down the waterfront to the teleporter, and select either Thestra or Qalia. Qualia the adventures start off fast in the destination city, Thestra you have to travel north, stay on the road cause you're in a level 19/20 area. If you are a level 19/20 in Tanvu, GET THE HELL OUT. Go to New Taragonor, go west out of the city, and enjoy the cornucopia of level 20 areas. There are some really neat undead fortresses out there.
If you are starting a new character, start what you want, where doesn't make a difference, cause right now you can use the temporary transporters to move. Take advantage of that while it lasts. This is all just my opinion, take it as that. Fanbois and haters, flame on.

yeppers - the size and scope is extraordinary. I no longer read any 'review after playing the game to xx level' or 'review after 2 weeks in game' etc. There is just no way get a feel for what the developers of this game are trying to do here...
...it's like that scene from Chevy Chase's Vacation, where they look at the Grand Canyon for like 15 seconds and then leave...
Qalia isn't so bad, but you're definitely right about Thestra being the most packed with content. If you aren't satisfied with beginning experience from your own starting race's quests, it's usually a jog away to another starting area.
So I'll co-sign this, Kojan gave me a really bad impression of a lack of quests when I first began, but my Lesser Giant was packed with them.
Yup, I'm trying to decide on my second home, and Leth Nurae sure is sweet. Went back to Tanvu real quick last nite, have to pick up my stuff from the bank before I move. Couldn't help but notice how many crafters were snuggled around the few crafting tables, and that none of my stuff on the market had sold. Prices are cheap in Kojan compared to Thestra, must be the laws of supply and demand. Went out into a higher level adventuring area cause I wanted to complete old quests. There was one guy who said he had been out there all day trying to solo a group quest because nobody else came along. We grouped, beat the quest, then split up because he and I had different group quests. Never saw another player the rest of the night. The rest of my group quests went unfinished.
Try experiencing that in Thestra.
