True. There a very little of them as well. It would be better if we had a better Sci-Fi that was at least F2P. MMO's like WoW, GW and some of the other ones that stick to that 'theam' are ok but I need a break from thoes since there are TON's of thoes types. We need a GOOD Sci-Fi, if there was such a thing. I would even go so far as to pay for it. Untill then, though, there is nothing good out there. Yet. We need more Sci-Fi plz   *sigh*

I ran into the same problem as you, and tried a lot of free ones as well as other ones, unfortunately I must admit that to me, WoW is still at the moment the best MMORPG out there. The others to me are either outdated, or just not what massive online can be. Many people that dislike WoW do so because of the graphics. Yup, it's cartoon style, but personally I like that. And look at the competition then on the 3d mmo market. What do we get? Endless fields of 1000s of square meters with just a couple of trees and a flat surface. Face it or not, but at the moment mmo's can't offer you the nice 3d stuff you like on your screen. This also counts for the free ones. Not to mention most free ones are azian, so what do you get? A small figure with an oversized weapon doing tons of damage, having few hitpoints and getting hit for a few points of damage.  Stuff like age of conan looks promessing as a sort of next gen mmorpg, but until then I'd say wait a bit, and don't bother with the free ones.

Btw, as for Anarchy Online, unless you want to pay for the expansions what you can do is pretty limited to : grab a mission, go into a building, whack, shoot, pillage, loot, burn, rejoice, and do it all over again.

Not to bring up a big argument, but most of the Korean MMO's that are free are quite amazing, sure you cant read or understand anything going on in the game, but like holy beast and or some others, the games are well made, cartoonish but fun. But to be a good free MMO i think some amount of money has to be paid, like a b2p, but not p2p such as guild wars,

Guild wars wasnt a bad game it was fun its just not amazingly good.

Well ,I like alot of current mmo players am sick of the same ol' same ol' stuff. I have also tried most of the mmorpgs p2p and f2p out there. What I look for is something different.

After going thru about 20 f2p games in the last year I can say that now I am enjoying:

    Granado Espada

    and

    Voyage Century Online.

They are both  a little different and unique in features fro the run of the mill crap. Give either one a try I think you will be surprised.

Ugh, lucky people that can play Granado Espada right now! I just signed up for the singapore pre-open beta test, hope I get in soon. But for now, Guild Wars it is, especially considering how I never really got past post-searing, might as well get my money's worth and finish the Prophecies campaign.

Once you go go whack, you'll never go back.

What is this "whack", you say? Check out the links!

The topic title is the best free MMO, so why don't you visit www.mmorpg.com and check the game list, and then pick the best free MMO.

Way to stereotype the whole WoW playerbase.  It's ignorant people like you that piss me off.  Call me a fanboy for all I care, ignorance and irony are bad traits when criticizing a game.

That may be a stereotype, but I played WoW for some time and have to agree with the original poster.

    The graphics were cartoony

There were naked Night Elves with implants dancing in most of the auction houses

And there certainly was alot of 14 year olds farming gold and talking smack.

Well, since you will like only what you will like I recommend trying them all.  This website has a good selection of games that are free and others that are in free-beta-forever.

Personally, out of the ones I have tried I am still looking.  Dungeon Runners is the worst game I have played in a very long time, it's absolutely silly.   Last Chaos wishes it was Lineage 2 but the Devs stopped a few years short in their work.  Very pointless game unless you want to drop some decent cash in the item mall, give it a few years to smooth things out.  Silkroad is decent but, of course, has troubles of it's own - free games don't have the cash that Blizzard or NCsoft has to drop on servers and networks -- if they are popular expect lag during peak play hours.  I really don't care  for games with item malls, I would rather excel through skill than VISA payments.

Currently I am DLing Silkroad to try again after a year or so off, probably hasn't changed but 2moons is still a few breaths short of vaporware  (seeing as it is already a game but we have seen nothing but a torrid translation) and hasn't surfaced for air in a while with no indication of when it will.

just a slice of my feelings of the current state of the game-ing

2 moons has a very active community. Currently 100 testers are in pre-open beta to try and eliminate some more of the bugs. The game will be going open beta sometime within the next week.

The forums on here aren't very active for it, but the game is launching very, very soon.

After seeing the nice job Acclaim has done with 9Dragons, I signed up in hopes of getting a 2Moons beta invite.  So far no luck, but I'll be watching this one too.  Acclaim has some really polished work for freebie grinders.  Based on what I've seen so far, I'd love to see what they could do with a full-blown, complex P2P MMO.

Are there any free space MMOs in development?
  • ZombiecodeZombiecode Member Posts: 4
last I heard, there was the combat prototype from Infinity:the quest for Earth which is currently available and free.

In addition, I hear that Infinity will generally be released free, with additional content for subscribers.

Sounds too good to be true, but as a small fan base here in south england, we're rooting for its development.

    Whoa. I'm from Devon.

Couple of the games have appealed to me here... I'm just wondering about the MMOFPS game.. Is there levelling involved with this? I'm talking about the Phylon game. It actually looked very good for a free MMO, but the only way I'd play it is if it had a levelling system. Is there anyone who has played the game who can clear this up for me?

One of my favourites was http://rappelz.gpotato.com

this looks pretty good. I dont want to try it though without someone elses backup on it
