Download or DVD only?

I have posted this question on the beta forums as well as the main forums.

When i go to the link to buy a digital copy, I am sent to a preorder for a box set.

I don't have a DvD drive, and I want to save my money to buy a new PC instead of upgrading my old one.

Any word on whether or not we can download the game?

If you click the pre-order link on LOTR website you will be taken to a screen that has bestbuy as a box or like 5 gaming companies for digital. When I pre-ordered the game I was sent the link to download the game and afterwards put in my pre-order key to allow me early access on the 30th of March and my founders bonus.

Once you download the client and update all the patches you will basically have the game, when the game goes live all you will have to do is put in your key code you get with your original box and the game will be good to go and not need the disk at all.

    Hope this helps.

Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there,
80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters.
Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior,
and he will bring the others home.

Ok. I thought that download was just for the beta client, which I already have.

I guess I just have to pay to have a dvd shipped to me I can't use.

You gotta be kidding me... have you checked DVD drive prices recently? Less then 2 months fee for LOTRO...

I have checked DVD prices and sure I can get a cheap one for around $30. I just would rather spend that $30 on subscriptions.

I have a limited budget for games.

I have 2 children that have subscriptions to CoX, one that has a subscription to WoW. Add in 2 xbox live subscriptions, and I'm at the limit of my budget.

Still doesn't make sense... _everything_ comes out on DVD now, and 30 bucks is a once only spend, not a monthly fee (therefore no point in including it in the budget :)

Sorry, I just noticed that I didn't mention this on this post, but did on lotro forums.

I plan on buying a new PC for Christmas, and don't want to spend even $30 on upgrading my PC.

The more money I save now, will help me get a better system then.

I am limited on my new PCs game, not just because of DVD, but due to the processor and video cards.

I'd love to play Supreme Commander, but my system couldn't handle it even if I could find a CD version.

However to answer my own question:

Yes you can download the game, but have to order a box and pay for shipping.

DVD Drives are like 20 bucks.  I honestly don't care for digital downloads.  I did this with EQ2 and didn't get any of the expansions.  Of course it was my fault, but oh well.  I won't be buying this game, but future games I will buy at the store.

Gees man :) buy the DVD drive now, and buy a new PC _without_ (!) a DVD-rom with the Christmas upgrade :) Easy , eh?

(I always build my own PC's, preconfigured PC's always have 1-2 components that are plain screwovers... to sell unsellable stock).
