Why did Archlord end up free?

Is the game play truly bad enough to warrant no subscribers? Screenshots do not seem horrible and for game developed for a P2P system has to far outshine F2p Like rappelz or silkroad.

Is it worth the 30 bucks to play?

    Dude .. 30$ or not is not the name of the game in today's online game arena.



    If people play a game they will play it no matter what till they get fed up with it.



    It's the number of people playing a given game that most lonely sheeps digg into.  You don't want be sole ranger running miles and miles from one end of the game to the other and feel like you are the only survivor of the entire scheme of things that the given game is made for.

    Game isn't too bad, I heard the population has been increasing, not sure how much though. Only thing I did not like about it was the amount of grind, hopefully they made it a bit easier.

    Its worth it if you enjoy games like Lineage 2, Rappelz, Silkroad. If your more of the "WoW" or "Everquest" type player, then don't bother, its not the game for you. It went free to play because the playerbase was small. Now that its free to play, the playerbase is decent.

    So make sure you try it first to see if the game is for you.

    Thanks for the feed back. i bought it. Might as well give it a shot. i was one of the few who liked

    L2. This doesn't seem nearly as bad as some have made it out to be.

    To be honest, I don't think it was a case of "the jig is up" and Codemasters simply giving in and making it free.  I think it was a case of Codemasters seeing the light.  Truth be told, the initial market reaction to Archlord was "tepid", to use a polite term.  Keeping that in mind, once they probably looked at the numbers of just how much revenue cash shops generate, they probably decided to switch over simply because it was the better business move.



    Codemasters has been treading some interesting ground, really.  Sure, I thought RYL and Archlord sucked, but I wish American game publishers would wake up (that's you, Activision and EA) and jump on the localization bandwagon.  At present, we have Asian MMORPG's delivered to us by a British publihser, and we have indie American MMORPG's funded and operated by a Korean publisher.  I think I know who is going to be the first big name to really exploit the cheap licenses available from Asian MMORPG's.  It's going to be Microsoft with their very strong desire to make the 360 the MMORPG machine.  They'll do it through a smaller publishing partner, but it'll be MS money driving it.  I wish MS would have picked up GE, actually.



    In the meanwhile, we have . . .  Acclaim.  I actually liked Turok.

    Well, for anyone interested in this game (not me grinding sucks), Fileplanet has a trial going and soon, apparently, a trial server going up with their new free update on it, called Siege something or other, and an instant lvl 50 character.

    Have to say i thought the game was truly  awful and an absolute waste of money  even if it is free to play but each to their own i say.....

    Greatness is difficult to appreciate from close up. The great mountain on the horizon is only the ground when you are standing on it.

    Heh, and then of course there was the whole tiered payment system fiasco.

    I was able to play the 10 days trial, to tell you the truth I enjoyed it and started to think to save money and buy it... its not worth P2P but, B2P, maybe... if you like it. But, thanks to mmorpg.com, I won a bundle pack! XD It's so good when you recieve for free something you want to buy.

    It was one of the better point/click/but items with real money free mmo.  But I lost interest after the trial.   Character creation was terrible and they really don't have a  bunch of classes to choose from.  And I hate how you can't change your sex for some classes.  I uninstalled it.  Plus the bug where is sounds like a dump truck is in the background got annoying.  The graphics were actually good for this type of game.  They had the idea of making it B2P instead of P2P.  They will still get money though with the buy credits for cash thing.
