So how bad is the non-soloable aspect of this game? I like parties, but sometimes I just have time for something quick, and soloing is usually more amenable to such times. Is it completely impossible to solo in the game, even to grind a bit? Or are parties just needed for major quests and bosses?

If you love parties, you'll be heaven
Its not as heavy group oriented as FFXI but its eerily similiar.
A lot of quests before lvl 10 are mostly solo oriented for the exception of a few. However, later on, if you wish to do a good majority of the current quests you'll need to group.
The game is soloable and it can be done. Just dont expect to be completely immersed in the Quest lines while soloing. Please dont misunderstand....there are still Solo quests later on but the ratio is like 5:1 in favor of group quests vs solo quests. If you wish to solo to 50 you can certainly do it but you'll miss about 65% of what the game has to offer.

yup
Now, if you solo you're gonna trade xp for loot.
When you group you'll be trading mob for Quest XP (which is a LOT). So if you do group make sure its for a quest because if you group just to farm, you'll get nowhere in terms of experience points. The Quest XP is where the payout is

Since we are on the subject of soloing.
I have fond memories of kiting giants out the back door of the giant fort in Warslick woods in EQ. Also memories of solo farming Hearthglen in WoW. I love to group and have some friends on the server i plan to join who i will group with. I was however wondering if their are similar places to solo that leave lasting impressions in Vanguard that any of you have experienced?
EQ -70sk,70clr
DaoC- didnt make it past lvl 10
Archlord-lvl7 booorrrring
WoW- 60war,60priest, 70rogue
Solo quests are scarce and you won't make a lot of XP doing them (most probably 1 to 2 percent per quest).
Grinding mobs solo to level will take an infinite amount of time and is NOT fun. Look at what the above poster said: 8 mobs to make 1 percent, that means you will have to kill 800 mobs to level. How boring is that? And that of course, is if you not die. And you will.
I see you mentionned famous AC1 dungeons, where soloing was a lot of fun. Don't imagine Vanguard is like this. It is NOTHING like AC1. The game is slow and dull. If more than 2 mobs are on you, depending on your class, you're most likely toast.
So my advice? If you like to solo, or if you are looking forward to the opportunity of playing solo from time to time, just STAY AWAY from Vanguard. It just isn't worth buying.
If you want some good solo options there's still WoW and, above all, EQ2.
Are you completely clueless, ignorant of the facts or just enjoy lying to others? The FIRST LVL 50 SOLOED to 50... yeah, it's a real problem, LOL!!!

Ya, the game works fine for the solo adventure. True the rewards are better in a group but that is to be expected, we’re playing a Massively Multiplayer Game its in the name.
I haven’t made it past 25 yet but the solo content is fine and rewarding enough.
I still have more solo quests than I can do at level 17. My main problem is figuring out which ones to remove from my quest log since it only holds 20 total. (EQ2 holds 75 which I liked better)
I do have several diplomacy quests in there however.
I have never had to "grind" in order to advance. I would never want to stand in one spot and grind 800 mobs in a row. That is not fun, it is also not required in Vanguard. But then again I don't consider myself to be in a "race to 50" situation. There have always been solo quests available for me if I explored a bit, and quests generally give the best exp.
The leveling pace of the game is slower than some others, but I don't judge a game by how fast I can level. My only criteria personally is if I can have fun with the content provided. So far I'm having fun.

You can solo. Currently, I'm at level 19 and only once did I group up with a group of 4 players, two other times I partnered with just another person for a mission.
Finding groups is a hassle for many people. But many missions are group required and you either go thru' the hassle of finding a group or just drop them altogether. And it's a lot better if you have heals if you intend to solo, without them it'll be a lot more difficult as you go up in level.
Now, as you get closer and closer to 35-40..the soloable quests may run dry as higher level content is a bit sparse (if nonexistant in many cases). But AFAIK everyone approaching or at 50 now soloed to get there.

Great guide about what zones to look in for quests at your level.

Just because the first level 50 soloed to level 50 doesn't MAKE the game a solo game. WoW is probably the best solo game where you can solo all the way to 70 AND do most of the quests. I think the point was that the solo content gets limited as you level and more and more of the quests are group based.

Yep, and I can't imagine how that guy soloed to 50 with all the mindles, repetitive grinding he'd of had to do. Good for him I suppose, if that's his thing....Are you completely clueless, ignorant of the facts or just enjoy lying to others? The FIRST LVL 50 SOLOED to 50... yeah, it's a real problem, LOL!!!

My point was that there are PLEANTY of Solo Quests and Content. Infact, I have a LVL 17 & LVL 15 I've leveled completely solo. One of the most fun things I do in the game is Solo Hunt & Harvest. I've discovered a LOT of interesting places doing just that. I also spend a LOT of time Soloing my LVL 25, although I play with him in a lot of Guild Groups.
I'm not a power-gamer. I don't play a ton, I just play smart. Oner person in our Guild is on his 4th LVL 20+ toon, and he playes 75% of his time Solo, and doesn't have one Healer.

People seem to want to get rewarded for doing nothing. It is a group oriented game but right now it is more efficient to solo. Most of the higher level players take pride in knowing that they solod the game to get where they are at, in a game that is supposed to be all about grouping.
If you can't find the quests you can do solo, that is on you.
I can speak for a lvl 24 druid and a lvl 25 enchanter. I've grouped and solo'd both these classes and soloing is still very much possible at these levels. Solo quests are also very much in abudance at this level as well. In fact, some of the even con group quests can be solo'd as well. The 24 druid knocked out 3 even con group quests this weekend. Extremely challenged but incredibly fun. There are also grind quests available for experience and coin, such as kill 100 bandits. This is repeatable for those that don't mind a little grinding.
With respect to soloing loot.... I've come across solo'able named mobs that have very nice equipment, or at least upgrades for me at the lvl 24 level. The named are pretty random and their drops are also random as far as I can tell.
Wow, this is completely untrue. I solo'd two levels in 1 day this Saturday, which was not a double exp day. I went from level 22 to 24 on the druid through an abundance of quests the the coastal grave yards on Thestra. One quest led to another, and another and another. Some of the quest rewards where 5% experience, such as the kill 50 bandits. I also completed some group quests solo as well, up to 5 if I recall correctly. If you like to quest, don't pass up on opening quests that don't sound fun or con green.... some of them ultimately lead to 3-5 parters that culminate in some very nice exp or items.
So StrikeTeam, if you were just being a troll with your post so be it. But if you were being serious, then I suggest you explore a little and check out all the available quests in whatever area you are in. Don't be afraid to complete green quest and yellow quests either. It's easy to out-level the quests available to you, but if you take the time to complete green quests in your journal, you'd be surprised at how much exp some of those offfer. Furthermore, some yellow quests can also be completed solo.
I can't speak to the other continents because I've only been to them for diplomatic quests, but Thestra has an abundance of adventuring solo quests up to lvl 25. Of course, I've only played 2 outta the I don't know how many classes, so there may be some classes that are not solo-friendly. But hey, if you like to solo, then pick a soloing class.
