He is leaving WoW for LoTRO, so I think the poll is basically which of those two games would you choose. No need for "other", just don't vote if neither are your style.
I just wish they had rights for Silmarillion as well. I'd give anything to see Númenor and Valinor. Well, at least we'll have a chance to walk in Minas Tirith some time in the future. Hopefully, that is. Oh, and I didn't vote since I haven't yet played LotRO. But, well... Chances are high pretty much everything coming out this year (WAR, AoC, Gods and Heroes, PotBS) will be better than WoW for me, so it's an easy choice.
I cannot explain the sadness That's fallen on my breast. An old, old fable haunts me, And will not let me rest.
So basically you will be leaving WoW for another WoW.
That was a fairly ignorant statement. There is no comparison between WoW and LOTRO. I challenge you to substantiate that statement with some examples. Oh. And, try to make them accurate and correct based on experience playing both games.
So basically you will be leaving WoW for another WoW.
Another stupid statement comparing LOTRO to WoW. Been in WoW since release day and like it. Been in LOTRO since Nov. and love it. They are not the same game, do not play the same, do not look the same, questing is completely different, skill development is different, and storyline is completely different. My question to you johncinn is do you play anything other then WoW and have you actually put time into LOTRO? WoW is not an original game. Took most of it's elements from EQ, Asherons call, and Asherons Call 2. A similar UI does not make games the same.
I do expect alot of these threads to pop up over the next couple of months from very specific groups that play WoW.
#1. is the older gamer that is 30+ years of age. I expect a mature player base drain from WoW to LoTRO which should really reinforce that more "kiddies" play WoW and that LoTRO has the more mature player base.
#2. The other niche group would be the PVE only gamer or that rarely PvP. The PvE game in LoTRO simply put is better then WoW's. WoW has a bigger world with more things to do overall but LoTRO does offer a very story driven role playing game that should appeal to fans of PVE.
#3. One other would the bored of WoW crowd or the crowd that enjoys playing the "it" game of the moment. LoTRO is brand new and offers a new polished and accessible game for anyone that is familiar with WoW. The grass is always seems greener on the other side.
#4. and lastly would be from on of the comments above. "So your leaving WoW for another WoW". Yeah but LoTRO is clearly a much better IP. Other things being equal, I am pretty sure most people would much rather play a MMO in Middle Earth then Azeroth, just my opinion.
I don't think Warcraft is any danger of getting overtaken by LoTRO, not even close but I do think the quality of player base that WoW has is about to go down significantly. For every so called "kiddie" player that WoW currently has probably can be matched up with a mature experienced player that represents the community in a possitive way. I think that ratio is about to tilt heavily towards the Chuck Norris crowd now for WoW. I think WoW will continue to dominate the 25 and under gamer demographic, but the 25+ and older gamer I think Turbine is going to take a very healthy chunk away from Blizzard.
I played WoW for 2 years, I liked it but it is time to move on. I didn't mind the community too much, it didn't bother me at all really. But, I prefer LOTRO much better than WoW already. LOTRO is a very fun MMORPG, I'm having as much fun as I was in Asheron's Call...and now that is saying A LOT. The only downside at least for me, is the current land feels sorta small, but they have options to expand on it a lot.
I'll have to say WoW. I've played LOTRO and I like it, but I still prefer WoW. One reason is the graphics, even tho they are cartoony there is something about them that I prefer in WoW.
But playing WoW for too long time has just made me 100% tired of the game. Oh well, kind of strange, but I play LOTRO but I still think WoW is better.
I played EQ 1 for 5 years, WoW since release. I am trying LotRO because I have been a huge fan since I was 10.
That being said, just to give me a bit of credibility for the Lore of the story and MMO experience, this game is cool, but I see many similarities to WoW. Don't be faithfully binded to the lore of Lord of the Rings here. I haven't played LotRO a great deal, got my guy up to level 7, but the questing is almost identical. Go here, kill X of this mob, or collect X of this. Talk to this guy, get XP and item rewards, etc. etc. This game is not breaking any molds, that's for sure. But, so far I do like the "instancing" approach to questing, makes you feel like you are more involved in the story. That's cool, I do like that and am interested in playing more, which is a sign of a good game.
I do feel that combat is incredibly easy so far, I haven't come anywhere near dying yet. I play as a Champion, not sure if maybe this class is overpowered or not? So far, the game has not been much of a challenge. But being a big fan of the story, I am going to give it a huge chance to win me over.
I agree, my rping guild and a few others is moving from WOW to lotro , i must admit lotro is very deep and it just satisfies me in a way warcraft never could. And i don't mean sexually.

I am also going from WOW to LOTRO, but at this point I think I am going from WOW to anything. I have played EQ1, DAOC, EQ2, WOW, Vanguard, COH, and now LOTRO. To be honest they all get boring after awhile. DAOC lasted the longest for me. I'm sure I will be back to WOW eventually, just because I have alot of friends that play. To the person who said "from one WOW to another WOW" You couldn't be more wrong. Obviously you haven't played LOTRO, it is much different except for the layout of the GUI. I preordered LOTRO, not quite sure yet if it is going to fit my gaming needs, but it is just beta. See you all there.
Well, I left WOW last November, had played since open beta and was just tired of it. TBC didn't offer me anything new really, so I've spent the past 3-4 months playing DAOC and most recently, VG.
But I've pre-ordered LoTRO, played in the beta since beginning of March and really enjoy the game. Sure, its a bit lighter than other games..but I'm enjoying playing just for "funsies".....

Good thing you use "so far" wait til north barrow downs and chapter 11 quest. They are just around the corner for you. Turbine did a brilliant thing making it easy and soloable the first 10 levels or so. Game moves pretty quick but not for long. This gives players a chance to learn game with the feeling of success and moving forward. Great for the newer mmo player. Turbine hopes to tap into the first time players who tried this as their first mmo. They came because it is LOTR. However don't you worry it gets a lot harder. Trust me I only got my top character, a ranger, to lvl 32 and believe me it was no picnic.

Well it took a couple months for me to get to that level but during beta we got experience faster. Things have slowed down a bit for the pre-order. The size of the world so far is a topic of debate. Turbine said 50,000,000 square acres at release. To compare it I would say almost as large a WoW at it's release. I think it is large but more then that it is filled with stuff to do and explore everywhere. That 50 million acres will be increased a lot Turbine has said as the expansions come out. You also get some of the longest views in any mmo I have played. You can stand on a mountian or hill and look out at what appears to be miles. Who ever was incharge of landscape design in LOTRO should be given a raise. You will be able to explore for month with the land mass at release.

Will keep my char alive and probably will buy future expansions to see if they try to change things ingame or not...
But with the ace stuff comming out this year (Age of Conan, Chronicles of Spellborn being my favourites) besides Lotro i
think it' ime to discover some new lands.
Currently i will keep WoW alive besides LOTRO and Vanguard, at least i am gonna do all quests i need to be done to
cancel it with a bit respect. After the summer it will have to make way for Age of Conan or CoS :-)
(and i have read somewhere that the company from Eve Online has the rights now to develop a MMORPG in the
Wolrd of Darkness setting!! nice).
Agghhh some good online times await us!
