Milestone 2! Launched

NoffiNoffi Member Posts: 5
So today they launched the first part of Milestone 2 which are going to improve FoM. As far as now they seem to have problem with some bugs(Like godmode).Good news is the new server cluster is online and we have a much better stability.

Here is a Complete list:

- Revised server cluster architecture for better stability, reliability and performance.

- Weapons can now be moved to your inventory. To equip them they must be moved to one of the weapon slots. Weapons need to be properly unequipped before they can go somewhere else. Better error messages when failed to equip a weapon. Removed "Dematerialize" context menu option for weapons in weapon slots (can be done from inventory only).

- New handling of the medikit, biocell and food healing timeouts. The timeout now depends on the amount of healing and won't lock further healing for 30 seconds even if only 5 points were healed.

- Login button added.

- The "/clustermsg" command is now available to all GMs. GMs can send direct private messages (via /p name text) to all players, even those not on their friend list. In the private chat channel, messages from GMs will reach all online friends, even if not accepted.

- Better error message when trying to scan a player already in prison.

- Revised friend list and optimized friend online status.

- Revised squad member list.

- Request system added. Requests are means for direct communication with GMs. Requests can be suggestions or complaints. New request types will be added as needed.

- Department system added. Departments can be created by GMs only, but players can make suggestions for new departments through the request system. GMs and department leaders are able to invite other players (of the same faction) to the department. The mission system is not yet affected by departments. This will be added next.

- Revised faction member window. You can now search all players in your faction, even those having a higher rank. You can also search specifically for names and nametags. Note that only active players are listed!

- The windows for faction statistics, faction member search, allies & enemies and campaign overview are now part of the faction overview window.

- Several other bugfixes.

So it took them six months to release a patch that only had bug fixes in it? Pathetic.

    (sarcasm initiated)

Oh but they have a new server cluster to support the dwindling population, who needs game content

As much as I appreciate someone treating us like people, and not just cash wads, FoM really is a niche game and a dying breed.

The little combat there is in this game feels so badly done that is makes it not worth the while. Sure, the game is about RP, but when a battle breaks out, it should break out, not just random crap with bad aiming and bad collision detects.

Frankly, neat concept, but you stole my money once, i'm not resubbing to see what has been done.

Id always wanted to try FOM again ever since i played in beta, but the things putting me off are the lack of free trial and the population, i want to be in a game with many people.

How many people are on the FOM server on average.

You shouldn't listen to everyone that played this game for 1 day and then come and whine on forums..i assure you all that there are a community. For the last few days we have picked up many players and i think give it a month and we will be over 100 active players once again.

Not even one hundred players is not anywhere near a massive increase to the player base.

-I played the game in early open beta =first days= till the end of beta and I never moved on to the retail version because its just not worth playing-

Fom has no redeeming features over the mislabeled "player controlled" game style it boasts.

    -The combat is awful

    -The crafting is awful

-The colony control system and wars are awful

    -The mission system is awful

-The games community is beyond awful

(And I do not explain why they are awful, but I just might)

    -combat-

Its slow, they try to justify the slow pace of combat by saying its more rpg'ish, -really combat with the guns is just running around jumping in a circle at point blank till someone dies after running out of med kits-

    -crafting-

you stand in front of a terminal, regardless of mining or producing its the same process -and you cant leave the colony till your production/mining is finished- =chem subs manufacturing for drugs though is a slight different, but its still just sitting at a terminal and waiting=

    -colony control-

Do a bunch of campaigns, capture colony for a few hours, to find that the colony is retaken due to the others doing a bunch of campaigns and capturing the colony back from you. (repeat till both sides get bored or shooting each other)

    -missions-

Not worth it. Capped pay set in stone by the Gm's to make money even more scarce for combatants

Xp isnt worth anything either after rank 3 and the auto promotion gives way (then its player controlled promotions, but xp has always been useless

    -community-

We used to have a semi official IRC for the game where the devs showed up once in a while, but thanks to some players spamming it up and dos attacking the owner of it, We are stuck with community crap hole IRC's run by people with vendettas against other players (making these IRC channels ghost towns, or flat out spam halls for the stupid).

    ====

People can claim the game involves a lot of RP, but if the current trend of player role playing is really "LOL NOOB, GANK, SIR, HACKS, AIMBOT, WALLHACK, (insert foul language here)... then i guess it does involve a lot of role playing

-But Ill avoid that role playing at all costs-

What do ya mean? If the janitor hadn't tripped over the wires and asked what they were, the devs would never have realized the server was still online. Here's the story:

Janitor: "What are these wires for? I almost broke my neck while trying to clean some of these cobwebs."

    Dev 1: "Wires? What wires?"

*Notices dust-covered box with faintly glowing LED flashing*

Dev 1: "Holy Christmas!! I thought we shut it down!!"

    *Phone ringing*

    Dev 2: "Hullo?"

Dev 1: "Get your ass down here. You'll never believe this!!"

Dev 2: "Calm down. Won't believe what?"

Dev 1: "The FoM serevr. IT"S STILL RUNNING!!! And even worse, there are actual people playing it. What the hell do we do?!?"

Dev 2: "Relax. If they have been there this long without us, they probably haven't noticed anything. But just in case, I got it handled. Remember those bug fixes we were working on before we decided the game was a washout?"

    Dev 1: "Yeah?"

Dev 2: "Well, it just so happens..........."

I cant believe people are paying for this.  I was there in beta almost from day 1.  Spent over 4 months there I believe- until they decided to put those ridiculous turrets everywhere... effectively beginning what I had already witnessed in Ultima Online several years ago; they take away your freedom; they segregate the community; and the game dies.

    So I bailed.

So really- only 100 active players on at one time?  That is so so so sad.  I remember when you had 100 players just in Manhattan.  Fighting was constantly breaking out.  It was a cluster fuck, but it was fun.  There was no need for the turrerts.  Just giving people a reason to spread the fuck out amongst the zones would have been enough for the whiners...

aw well.  Dont waste your time with this one.  The combat and missions; the whole concept of a player run everything- is pretty god damned awful.  It was never automated enough to the point where it was fun and not a second job.

About 5% of the people who try out the game will stick with it for at least a few months.  The people who bash the game are the ones who expected a whole lot more and were left disappointed.

If you are happy with the game, that's great.  But 95% of the people, or more, who try it aren't.  That means it's a BAD GAME.

If the game is really so great, why don't more people play it?  Because, with the exception of some diehards, people don't play BAD GAMES.
