Question about group size and questing

angus858angus858 Member UncommonPosts: 381

My group of nine friends is looking for a new game and we're considering EQII.  We like to adventure together and I'm wondering if we can do quests in EQ2 together.

What is the maximum group size?

Are quests restricted to a single group?

Are they instanced?

Thanks for you help!

    Max Group size is 6.

Depends what you mean by "restricted", Quests are 3 different levels Solo, Heroic and Epic. Heroic is 2-6 players (can be soloed sometime if your above the quest level). Epic is a quest that has a raid mob in it or takes place in the Raid zones. You can't do Heroic quests if your in a raid. But you can do Solo quests while grouped.

Not sure what you mean, Instances and Quests are seperate things. Some quests involve going into Instances, some of these instances are unique to that quest.

Again, for what its worth... I am enjoying EQ and think it would be great for new players.  I haven't had any problems grouping as yet.  Though I am playing a PvP server and it is high population.

Past: EQ, EQ2, DAoC, SWG, WoW, LotR, VG, WAR, GW, GW2, Rift
    Present: The Elder Scrolls Online
    Future: Everquest Next

There are solo, heroic (group), and epic (raid) quests. Solo quests, anybody can do at the appropriate level, even if they are grouped. Heroic quests can be done by a really good solo person or a group of 2-6 (obviously, some are harder than others). If you are in a raid (more than one group) some quests may not update, although this will depend on the step and the situation. For instance, if you kill a heroic mob in a raid, he will not count, but if you are picking something up, or talking to an npc, you'll probably get the update. Epic quests require a raid of 2 groups or more. You can do easy epic quests with one group if you want, and are really good, but some epic quests are impossible without enough people. You can update a kill with less than enough people, (x2 is 2 groups, x3 is 3 groups and x4 is 4 groups, you cannot make a raid higher than 24 people), but if you have too many people, some will have to be left out. Also, if it is a quest involving an instance, it won't let you in with too many people. But you could go in and update by yourself if you dare.
Some chain quests involve mini-quests of differing difficulties, so there will be solo parts, heroic parts, and even epic parts to some very long story line quests. There are Heritage quests (contains elements of old EQ1), Hallmark quests (part of a story line, character advancement), and Signature quests (same as heritage but involve new items exclusive to EQ2) that chain together that normally give the best items, or most nearly, in the game. They also give you Status points that improve the level of the guild you are in. A higher level guild gets discounted items and housing in some parts of the game. So you can not only improve your own level and gear, but improve the status of the group as a whole. There are even quests (solo, group, and epic) that are specific to raising the status of your guild.
There are even tradeskill quests that allow you to quest while making stuff in tradeskills. These can also be for personal gain, or gain status for your guild.
    Are they instanced?
Some are, and some are not. Some of the chain quests (story line) involve elements of both.
    Thanks for you help!
