Laptop Question..

I couldnt find a tech forum area so naturally I posted my conundrum here. Let me start off by saying I'm semi-computer retarded and was wondering if a PC/Laptop with the same specs preform at the same level or will some other parameter hinder the comp. I am curious because in the near future I will have to play mmo's on my laptop, which the stats for it are

duo core @ 2.0 ghz

2 gigs ram @ 833 mhz

hard drive is 7200 rpms

512 vid memory on a  GeForce Go 7900 GTX. I haven't upgraded the drives on it yet though.

it sounds like a good comp.

laptops are not as good as desktops because they do not retain the same speed as a desktop.  It will get slower faster as opposed to a desktop.

    My husband just got this:

    NP5760-V

17.0" Wide Viewing Angles WUXGA Active Matrix LCD Display with Super Clear Glossy Surface

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7200 / 4MB L2 Cache, 2.0 GHz, 667MHz FSB

    Nvidia GeForce GO 7950 GTX PCI-Express 16X Graphics with 512MB DDR3

2GB Dual Channel DDR2 System Memory

    100.0GB (SATA 7200rpm) SATA 150 Hard Drive

    8X DVD ± R/RW/ 4X +DL Super-Multi Drive & Softwares

    VISTA Ultimate OS

It's way better than my desktop which isn't very old.  It has crazy resolution, 1920 X 1200, and it wasn't even that expensive.  With a 3 year warranty, overnight shipping and some other modifications, it came to $2700.  He even maxed out the Oblivion settings and it didn't assplode or even slow down!  I'm glad he got it.  His other PC laptop was old and finally gave up the ghost about a year ago and he has Macs for work so really only played WoW.  I don't play WoW anymore.  Now we can game together again!

    You'll be good for ages!

I prefer to use tiny  "thin and light" $1000 laptops with small screens and long battery life for office apps and browsing the internet.  Who wants to lug around a beast?

Then build a $1000-$1500 gaming rig each year or two.

People that buy laptops for gaming rigs spend $2500-$4000 and they only stay current enough for games for a year or two.
