I've personally given up any and all hope of SWG ever becoming a good game again. SOE just doesn't listen to what the players want, and because of that they lost a huge amount of players, including me. I have retried SWG several times, and i still do not find it to be anywhere near as good as it was back in the day. I doubt I will play another SOE game again.
Pre-Cu servers would be cool. but i think its a little late, and i don't think SOE would do it.
Yeah, Vanguard lost over a hundred thousand subscribers even faster than the NGE did. Quite an overachiever for a SOE game.
SWG's graph looks like a spacecraft burning up on re-entry.
Not that it even has helped us that swg/soe has suffered.
I don't care if the NGE version draws 100 million subs. I just want my old game back. More power to um if they can get more subs for the NGE. Even though I think the game with the NGE is terrible I wouldn't care 1 iota if I had a pre-cu server.
This is gotta make a lot of game companies think hard about an SOE partnership though.

You know whats funny, I would sit here and bet 100 dollars easy that if nge and pre-cu servers were open side by side that the pre-cu servers would win in a landslide. I wouldn't even worry about my bet... at all.

Agreed. And if the person who made that chart is claiming to have any idea of SWG's (or any othe SOE game) subscriber numbers, he's quite frankly full of excremant.

this chart is totally wrong....SOE didnt announce that the game had sold 1 million copies until aug-05...this shows it meeting 3million subs in 03, about a month or 2, maybe 3, after the release....that is just not possible...and even if this chart was correct, it shows subs going down before the CU...which is what was happening...so SOE wanted to get more people, they though(wrongly) that it was the system, so they revamped it...then they saw wow with 5million+ subs, so they copied wow, put a star wars theme on it, and said "hey! "new" game "enhancements", come give us your money!"...it failed, now there is no doubt that if they released pre-cu back they would get more subs, but then they would have to deal with so many more professions, and wouldnt be able to push out publishes..or "chapters" as they call them now...and without any content being pushed out constantly then people would loose interest and not play it anymore...if they had a bigger...bigger as in 2 or 3 people for each profession, plus people on adding content, PLUS people working out bugs bigger...dev team, the game would roll, bugs being taken care of, new quests, planets, etc coming out, and professions getting their love, then this game would work, other then that...the game is too big for the dev team of 10 or so people to manage it
As i keep saying pre-cu costs to much to maintain. and i don't wanna get stuck in the floor due to the large amount of bugs, I'd take the update anyday.
As i keep saying pre-cu costs to much to maintain.
Such a silly statement, it may have costed only a bit more but they had more than enough subs at that point to keep it going well. Are you trying to make flamebait?

The chart says 300,000 not 3 million.

coulda swore the game had atleast 400k subs, anyways games dont peak at a certain number evenly, i wish this game would go to hell like all of you, but posting up false info all the time gets annoying.

The data is pretty accurate. However, just because a game doesnt have the dizzy subs of WoW, doesnt make it a failure. Galaxies sold 1 million back in 2005 but thats boxed copies overall and not subscriptions. WoW claims to have 8.5 million subs, yeah but how many of those still play the game?
Galaxies has gone through a rough patch but with the influx of new players, things could be moving in the right direction again

Yeah i was thinkin that too. It shows 300k.
And was about right. Even at our peak it was only a handfull of servers that were really packed. Others were just moderate and a good few were light/empty. Although they were in a much better state prior to the CU/NGE
The guy who runs mmodata would be the first to admit when he is wrong about data and would update it. However its no made up numbers here. He mainly is in touch with coporate investors and the like and company insiders who remain anonymous. Sure he could be getting fed wrong data but to be fair to the guy thats not his proble.
He makes contact with someone, they tell him what the numbers are, he compares it to another source, validating it, then reports it. Sure the sources may both be wrong but if they correlate pretty closely then it stands to reason that the data is more or less spot on.
None of this data should be taken as fact, just as a guide to what insiders are telling you at this time. If he doesnt get any validated data then he simply doesnt include it, as had been the case with SWG for a while now.

Classes would of took years to balance, people were crying nerf all the time. Get your facts straight before you pretend to know something.
Aren't they still, to this day, crying nerf and saying the classes are not balanced?
Sure, you may not hear it as often as Pre-CU but then, there are not as many players as there were in Pre-CU to complain about it.

Another thing you hve to think about is how much of this fixing/balancing/revamping you could of done with the resources the NGE took?
Revamps such as Ranger, Smuggler, Squad Leader etc could of been completed. Balancing of combat classes, new GCW system, addressing of buffs/armour.
All these systems could of been addressed with the resources the NGE took, without alienating the customers and scrapping what SWG was great at.
It's funny how day after day, month after month, these same discussions about server numbers (and the inaccuracy of estimates) continue. Yet the one thing that is never disputed is the fact that current numbers are far less then they were pre-CU.

I think these numbers are a joke, that is as viable as me saying that the game just hit 8 million subscribers yesterday
Only SoE knows the numbers.
Lol
49k is entirely believable even if it isnt correct
8 million is impossible heh
