...was 3D? Before I say anything I would like to state that I do not play Runescape, I'm not trying to give glory to the game, and don't want to be called lame for making a topic like this .
Ok! Well, I signed on to Runescape last night just to see how things were going. Litterally right when I logged on this jerk in a yellow shirt asked "Can I have some free stuff?" and followed me around. I went to the bank and two more people followed me saying "Can I have some free stuff?" If this isn't depressing, then I don't know what is.
I checked all of the skills that the game offers now. They still have the wood cutting, fishing, fighting, whatever. But now they have demon slaying, agility, house making, gardening. Then it hit me, "Why doesn't every game have this much sandbox qualities?"
you guy's also have to admit, the PvP is very unique. Also, for members, they have a Realm vs Realm type of thing. Capture the flag. I remember watching a friend of mine play it awhile back.
Would you play it if the game had you know, a more mature community, 3D (Not Java) and was pay to play? I mean, it just reminded me of SWG when I signed on. You can build your own house and furniture, and take care of the plants outside your house. I don't know...
Maybe I'm crazy.

MMORPG's Under my belt:UO,EQ1,EQ2,SWG,L2,COH,COV,WoW,AC2,Shadowbane,DAOC,FFXI,GW,D&D,V:SOH,LOTR:O
No, because I don't like the name.
Runequest sounds better but I think it's taken.
Runesword or Runeblade perhaps?
Well, I can honestly say I've played runescape up until recently. I even paid for a members account. I mean... Who is £3.50 a month going to hurt?
The game is actually very well thought out, and on the rare occasion you actually do find mature players, it can be very enjoyable.
If I could find an MMORPG like this in 3D with similar Sandbox qualities I would definately play it. I've spent quite a while searching for a game like Runescape. It's such a popular game. I mean, 1,000,000 paying members is VERY impressive for a Java game. Admit it. I don't see why other game companies don't try to make one like it. There is far more to do in this game than just kill and level. All MMORPGs should have this feature in my opinion.
yeah it would be the best game if it had L2 graphix but what would p2p do? theres nothing p2p does cept make less people play im all fr item malls
Well, P2P usually attracts a more mature fan base. If you havn't noticed, most free games have really young, immature "Can I have free stuff" kind of players. Runescape really gets the worst of the worst because it's free and no downloading required.
I just really like the "absolute" sandbox kind of gameplay. If you don't pay for the game, there are so little quests. But still, people are still playing years and years after they finish all of them. What kept me addicted for about 3 years was the guild system thing. "Oh man, they're's a cooking guild? I need to get into that!" "Oh jeez, Yew wood prices are going up, I need to start cutting trees!"
I guess more people have the same opinion as me. Glad I'm not crazy fo thinking this .
I think you know what I mean when I say "3D."An actual 3D engine that's not.. Java..

Then it would just be another crappy 3d MMO like the ones at the bottom of this websites list. The only reason it's successful is it is midly entertaining and can be played on any machine created within the last 15 years. I would know, I used to play it on a Win95 with a 100mhz processor, 64mb RAM and AOL dial-up.
It is not successful for any other reason.
I dont understand why everyone hates runescape. I play it.. i know the graphics are horrible.. i know the players are corrupt... but thats what i love about it. it runs on my computer fine... i love hearing about all the scams and glitches, helping noobs up until there high lvl then watch them quit to play wow..
Dont hate me thouggh i just like it. If you have any better games that are easy to run and free tell me.

Notice how most of the players who posted in this thread said how they would like to see a 3D version of runescape.
I don't see how anyone in their right mind wouldn't want to see a remake of Runescape. It's got everything an MMORPG needs. It sure as hell isn't popular only because it runs on any computer. I've never seen a game with more features in a game than what Runescape has.

QTFthough many wouldnt want to admit it, it does have more to it than any mmo ive ever played
You can't run from the Dog
Well, that's why people hate it. The graphics are horrible, players are corrupt, tons of glitches and scams, and no stable fan base.
Suggested changes
WASD movement
More abilities!
lots more spells for the mage types
more special attacks for melee and ranged, not just some attack you can use every minute or so
Competative graphics, doesn't have to be Vanguard quality, just a lot better than Java
Much more weapons and armour, It frustrated me seeing lots of meleers in full rune+whip or some variant of barrows gear.
Expand the areas, make it feel like a bigger world!
Give teleports a 5 second cast time, I hated people using it as an escape in the wilderness
Get rid of the grind factor, everything came down to grinding, ores, combat, woodcutting, it was all essentilly the same.
Keep the skills! I love the amount but not tht they are all essentially the same with different graphics
Keep the quests, some were really entertaining (monkey madness, desert treasure, legends etc. etc.) and make lots more
Of course this is just a dream, Jagex stands for JAva Gaming EXperts so I'm not holding my breath at all. Besides it's got quite a large amount of subscribers so I don't think they will feel the need to change.
Played Runescape for years but retired. It is a good game but as someone said, one of the main reasons its that popular is because its browser based and can run on any computer.Thats why its community is extremely poor.Same reason why its huge. However,Runescape lacks sooo many qualities of a decent 3d mmorpg it wouldnt be good.
1)Went from amazing PvP to carebear.
2)No clan interface
3)Jagex as a company adds stuff to the game more appealing to the masses. The masses being low levels who love questing and not dieing, thus, hurting long time players and pk enthusiasts.
If Jagex could fix those problems ^^,and add some features such as group questing and stuff,it could easily have 300k + subscribers if rebuilt on a 3d game engine.
