I have only played for about 5 hours now... and I am trying to keep an open mind...
but so far I don't dislike the control and options... I *HATE* the lack of control and lack of options.
You cannot even configure screen resolution or fullscreen/windowed in game (at least not that I have found) you have to exit game and set windowed ot full screen...
So... at this point... it looks like another beautiful to look at yet as hollow as a beer can game to me.
But I am TRYING to keep an open mind. I will play it until Thursday if I can make myself...
Are you seriously judging a game on the basis of how you set the resolution or fullscreen/windowed options? There are a lot of games that work in this fashion. Many of the games that do have these options ingame force you to restart the game. What in the world does this have anything to do with the gameplay?
That's your rationale for saying it's as 'hollow as a beer can'?
I'm not even sure what options you are complaining about lacking. I tested this game out on my old computer and it runs at 60fps. This is possibly the most beautiful game that can run so smoothly on older computers. On my year old computer, it's running at 1600x1200 at the highest settings and still giving me really smooth framerates. i don't know what sort of games that you've been playing pal, but most high quality games have those options ingame and the don't require you to restart the game.
i haven't even been able to play Sword of the New World yet, but i checked out the character creation after i got it downloaded, and i'm already not impressed with it. character creation is a joke, zero ability to customize my characters looks--face/body, and apparently the only customization i can do is decide between about a dozen or so outfits....
that is completely lame, i do not want to look like everyone else, MMORPG's have been out for how long and we're still having to deal with crappy character creation?! wtf. i want a game with good character creation like when i played Star Wars Galaxies, City of Heroes/Villians has a pretty decent character creation also--unfourtunately the graphics suck in my opinion.
Well if you think you can do better. Then give us a shout when your game hits retail. We'll be sure to check it out for you.

Okay, heres my thought on that little issue... First off im not flaming your post, just giving my reasons for looking past this "issue" if character creation is what makes a game worth playing then by all means accessorize!
But why does it matter? Durring end game pvp i sure as hell wont be stopping to admire my opponents facial hair or jaw structure. Sure it adds an element of control on your character however if your gonna base a games quality on if you can have brown or red hair then i believe you should purchase Sims 2.. Maybe the holiday season expansion as well just so you can customize just that little extra bit.
This game has so much more to offer other than player looks. And just a small note on that the characters are stunningly made. Id prefer premodeled characters over misformed sliding bar constructed facial features anyday..
I know you were simply commenting on the lack of a feature so prevalent in other mmos, but please for the love of god, and i mean this metaphoricly as well as literally, dont judge a book(game) by its cover(player creation). The game is amazing if you can let yourself try something different.
The key to that is completely logging out of the typical expectations for a MMPORPG and taking the game for what it is. I enjoyed the "hero" character additions in Guild Wars and this just takes it one level further and adds a real persistant environment. I think of it as massive multiplayer multicharacter Diablo 2. It's more of an action game than an RPG.
The translations are not at all final. I think they're really pushing the envelope on a July release, but they are currently dumping in the "real" translations. It looks to me like what's in there now was done by google translator or something like that. One of the devs dumped in some of the new translations for the tutorial and they're greatly greatly improved. I think they're pushing it if they think they can launch next month though.
On the character customization. Other than it being Korean and them not really caring about this as much as the western audience, I gather that the "end game" is (optional) mass PVP between factions and that they need to keep the options limited to reduce lag with hundreds of characters on the screen. What they have done for the western audience is to open up all the costume choices (or most) at character creation. In the other versions of the game, each character has only one costume at the start and the rest are, I guess, upper level rewards or cash store stuff.
The game is quite refreshing IMO. I'm used to the "controlling party" rpg console games so this fits my tastes very well.
I would rather have AFK leveling than making my own macros to execute repetitive commands to go through endless grinds to be able to experience the high-end fun content of a game (for those that are not very skilled at the english language, I structured this sentence like a grind, to get the pun).
So very refreshing indeed... just so tired of the saturated mmorpg of fantasy grinding games, something needs to change. Even Eve-Online has a horrible grinding to it for money or agent loyalty points (another form of money).
My camera shakes as well, but only when the mobs dies and hits the ground. I control 3 musketeers, when they get 1 shot kills, the mob flies 3-4 feet back, lands on the ground, and makes the camera shake like there's an earthquake. Given the nature of the fast paced action in this game, I wouldn't be suprised if he mistook the constant camera shaking as an annoying bug instead of 100.s of mobs dieing per minute.
The music is pleasant, but like all games, I eventually get tried of it and use f2k with 50k songs
First… This game is BETA. What is it with some people (kids) that think betas are just opportunities to play a free game? No... It's an opportunity to participate in the end development of a game, and perhaps have some fun in the process. (If your not submiting bug reports then your a piece of freeloading crap)
As for the game... I think it's a lot of fun and has many elements that fix what other games are lacking. I said before that the three character system gave it a RTS type element. Then some "challenged" individual says "if I wanted to play an rts then I would play one". No Einstein.. I meant it had an element that was similar to RTS in that you engage the enemy with three characters of differing abilities and make use of those abilities in a tactical manner. Geeez...
As to the lack of character creation in the barracks... Guess what? You are looking from behind your toons anyway… I don’t care if my female musketeer has powty lips and blue eyes. The real character customization comes as you play your family toons, and upgrade and use thier many abilities. The equipment options are so variable that no two characters can be the same. This is real customization. Not the cosmetic frippery of people who really want to be playing with dress up dolls.
I have had some kind of job to support my habit since I was 12. I am now 26 and I just don't understand people who can't afford $20. I understand maybe if you are in a 3rd world country, but honestly, I was mowing lawns, watching babies and doing all kinds of odd jobs until I was 16 (the legal age for a job a Wendys) to get what I wanted. So go get some initiative and stop complaining about not having any money.

Isn't this game supposed to be free to play anyway? I mean even after release? You people argue about the stupidest things.
Anyway, thoughts & impressions:
The lack of character customization is a little disappointing at first, but I can completely understand and accept it in a game where you play three characters at a time and are expected to keep a large stable of alts. Not to mention it's a free game, so moving on ...
The graphics are brilliant, and the music is a very nice change from the same old "epic movie theme" stuff you normally see in MMOGs. Kudos to the design team for having the guts to create an atmosphere that is actually somewhat unique and imaginative.
Click-to-move? Sorry, I will never get used to it. Combined with the mostly automated combat, I just can't see myself ever enjoying the gameplay. I'll keep trying, but I am not at all optimistic.
The interface in general is unintuitive, backwards, and harrowing to learn.

Jesus you never stop complaining do you? If people want to play for free deal with it. Anyways as you said most of us are underaged and some of us live in a place where it's highly unlikely to get a baby sitting job. Also most of us need that money for college and for things more meaningful than playing video games like you guys do. Anyways what's the point in spending money for a game you're not even sure you're going to play very long? That would just be a waste of money that you could've used on supplies. Maybe for you, your life is going all dandy and shit, but most of us don't have college money, some of us have to use that money to support ourselves and maybe they just want to have fun with a good free game. A closed beta gives you that chance and to actually probably help out a bit. So stop getting so mad about things that we don't have and let it go. <mod edit>

1:) I don't think that was complaining, I think you are though.
2:)This game is not F2P (yet) its beta, there is a difference.
3:) If you dont have enough money for gaming and college then you should pick one. Because honestly if you can't aford the game how the hell are you going to afford the hardware its played on?
4:) If playing video games has less meaning for you then why are you even here. It sounds like you have a choice to make but would rather flame others for pointing out the facts than make that choice.
I logged in for the first time and my thoughts where "Holy cap, the characters look beautiful!" I actually took about five minutes out just to admire how good each toon looked in their costumes. Yeah I was somewhat disappointed about the lack of character customization (I just wanted to make a black character. Is that so wrong?!)
But. I got over it. i created my team logged in with one of my guys and got to the first city. My thoughts were the same for the city as well. Speaking to people was a chore, since the translation really sucks. But like someone else said, it looks like the text is just a place holder for the time being.
Battle is bomb. I so love the battle system. Yeah the bouncing thing with the screen was weird for like five minutes, and then my mind completely tuned it out. I love the feeling that my three people are taking on a small battalion of enemies. Yeah the afk lvlers can be a little annoying, but what can you do. People do it all the time on other mmos. the point and click thing worried me for a bit, but I actually prefer it in the end. Once you figure out how to efficiently move forward in a dungeon, I think that a lot of people will agree. And I do like the music for the battle areas. it pumps me up while i manage my party.
Anyways. I like the game, and am eagerly waiting for the finished product..
Is it possible for the developers to get rid of the auto attack. Why can't it be that the lead character clicks on a monster and the rest of the group follow. This auto attack thing has caused so many problems, one being afk levelers. Another is when your running along happily, then your group randomly runs of somewhere to kill something without your saying so, that gets really annoying.
So my two questions are :
Is it possible for the developers to get rid of the auto attack system? - Most likely no, since its already been designed.
What purpose does this system hold apart from making the gameplay easier inturn reducing the skill involved.
My word is: It is a decent game, liked 3 players at once. Let's hide behind the fact that the only person I spoke to was myself (get it lol). the worst part is the view. You want to zoom in for detail but then u cant see where your going. Forced to zoom out. Overall, Great game.

The game shouldn't be autoattacking on its own, only when set to. In other words the ability to NOT USE the auto attack feature is in place. Try experimenting with how the Hold, Defend, and Assault mode work in comparision with just P&C movement. You may find that you need those Defend and Assault Modes so you can for example: have your Fighter auto attack while you manually keep your scout out of harms way to heal and your other party member at range for their ranged attack.
I don't know whats going on with your setup. Is it that you don't want the auto attack available as an option?
Controlling camera angle is a little odd for me. Is there a way to lock a camera angle?
I know this is an asian mmorpg but english translation could be better.
Character customization isn't deep enough, but I hope this just for the beta.
And finally, grouping with other human players is definetely discouraged. Like some that have mentioned, why play an mmo if you can venture out alone with your 3 character squad. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to have another character you control, but it seems like the system heavily relies on soloing.
Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished
I downloaded the beta and been playing since Sat...
Ok, I like it. the playstyle is... well lets be honest, this is a medevil version of D2 but you get an extra pawn.
As far as customization, Ok, say you actaully could customize your face, why? This playes as a standard RTS (3rd person POV) so it is more important customize your clothing or have all your Avatars waring the same feathered hat. If you could dye your clothing that would be the icing on the cake. After all did you customize your D2 avatrs or did every nevro, pally, amy, sorc ect look the same?
As far as the autoattack,, no there is no autoattack except in defensive mode, or if its locked in which case you are logged off in 5 min. If you use the absolute move you will run past eveything without returning fire.
The depth of this game is amazing, once you understand all that you can do. I have crafted weapons and then enchanted them as well as costumes. Though it took me 3 days to figer out how to do it, now thta I understand the process it's easy.
Squads are a necessity but as they can not go in the missions quests (a party can) for now they help you survive and farm for crafting mats.
Basicly you need to get your family fame to 200 before you can realy enjoy the game, but that does not take that long.
I downloaded the beta on sunday, so far the things that irk me in this game are , lack of wasd control because clicking to get around drives me nuts.the camera can go any which way , even under the map .no character customization. no extra classes to use, sure there are more specialized characters to collect, but i don't like the idea that i can get a character, actually create him , then find out i could've made a better one with another quest so i've wasted the time leveling him and the quarter space. The translations are needing some help and i've been hitting a little bit of lag whenever the spawns get a bit too numerous. The storyline seems ok, but not involving enough, especially at low levels (i like to get into some missions early on , example being ffxi with the gate guards giving a few missions to try out when you start out) And sure the afk auto defend seems nice now , but why even bother sitting at the computer now if all i have to do is let them grind for a few hours. Not a fan of the grind at all (ffxi especially)
The one thing i do like about this game is the fact there is three characters to control , not just one. If this could be implemented in other games that would rock. but for this game it seems to be the only selling point.
It's obvious that people that began PC gaming with games like CS and WOW don't get how to use the controls in this game. They are so easy and intuitive once you drop your preconcieved control ideas.
1. In options turn off Lock Defend Mode.
2. Ctrl and clicking on a spot on the ground will make your toons run to that spot attacking all mobs on the way.
3. Clicking Ctrl and Shift then a spot on the ground will have you loot everything to that spot.
4. Hitting space will put your toons in Defend mode and they will auto attack all mobs in their range. (fighters can run off chain attacking mobs so pick a good spot if AFK or put the fighter on hold)
5. Hitting CTRL and Space will have them loot all drops in the area and return to their spot.
6. Holding the right mouse button and moving the mouse will move the camera. It's no different than being in a FPS. Wheel zooms
7. The team select button on the lower left tool bar will allow you to select all your toons or let you select just one for action.
8. Each team members stance actions have a letter on their icon that corresponds with their hot key.
These are really all you need to know to play Sword effectivly and have fun doing it.
I was prepared to dislike the game and was ready to delete the file after a few levels. Ha! I am now closing in on lvl 30 and still having a great time! The auto attack allows me time to
do some keying in of spells, attacks and buffs. It takes practice to run the controls but this is the only point and click game I ever forgave for having that system. It actually makes the game work right. I find myself thinking about what I am doing instead of yawning as I wack a bad guy over the head , day after day. Now I am buffing, attacking and using magic all in the same window. If you play ONE character poorly forget trying to Master 3!
This is the game for those who love a challange. I would label this game Pumped up like the terminator on Crack!
I feel boxed into a 2 dimensional world in this game. The areas Ive encountered so far have been painfully linear. I cant say Ive seen much by way of community. Seems most people dont talk for some reason. As far as the artwork, it reminded me of the old Atlus game Brigadine. The characters really seem awkward sometimes when im running around, for example when you look at my wizard with the camera agle behind him, his torso seems to twist like gumby's body in the hands of an angry 2 year old. I keep noticing heads poking out of collars and what not too. I think the character artwork was ambitious, but the character animations were borderline. I know people touched on lack of character customization, and I agree with em. In this day and age, who wants to be a cookie cutout? As far as the combat itself, it just seemed like I was playing D2, or further back than that, an automated Gauntlet Legends a lot of the time. It started out as fun, but after a while it got monotonous.
I applaud the family system halfheartedly because sometimes it just seems downright tedious, honestly I thought it could have been implemented better, considering the fact it is what sets it apart from other games. Really when it was all said and done, family system aside, this really just felt like yet another run of the mill Korean MMO.
I give it a 6.0 for making a game that is at least passable. I dont think there were a lot of high expectations, so there wasnt a lot of disappointment.
i tried to download the game from a bunch of different websites so finaly i try the global one it takes 20 hours to download but i get the game at least where with the other websites that i was downloading the game from they just wasted my time now when i turned on the game i put in all my login stuff and tried to login but it said i had to select a world from the list below i say what list and then i say oh that list the one that has nothing on it so i'm pretty sure this is a great game but dam how do i select a world when there aren't any worlds to choose from and i had a lot of problems downloading.
so please if anyone can help me with my problem (figuring out where to find the worlds that i can choose to enter) please post after me and answer my question thx
Looks like it could have been a very fun game too bad it goes by the same cheapo asian mmog models of point and click movement. If any of you Asian dev are reading this listen closely.GIVE US THE OPTION TO REMAP MOVEMENT KEYS WESTERNERS FOR THE MOST PART HATE POINT AND CLICK .That is all thank you.

Saying Western audience prefers non-PnC is just false, sorry.

No but you can logically assume that the most popular WESTERN MMOs, ie EQ1,DaoC,SWG,Planetside,AnarchyOnline,FFXI,WoW,EQ2, have us all used to wasd. The only non pacrim mmo ive ever played that was pnc was Shadowbane. SO....Its a pretty safe bet that most people are more comfortable with wasd. Is it enough to be a gamebreaker? I dunno Id like to see a poll about pnc vs wasd. I think that would give you a reasonable crosscut of gamers preference.

I understand maybe if you are in a 3rd world country, but honestly, I was mowing lawns, watching babies and doing all kinds of odd jobs until I was 16 (the legal age for a job a Wendys) to get what I wanted.
So go get some initiative and stop complaining about not having any money.
<mod edit>
Well this is what I thought so far....

I don't know whats going on with your setup. Is it that you don't want the auto attack available as an option?
My first thoughts and impression.
An so it begins

The only thing I like about the game was the sound the guns made when I was shooting things.

Don't ya eat the yellow snow!
It's free.. it's worth a try. I got bored pretty quick with it though, and the controls & camera options are horrible.
And for god's sake.. somebody convince these guys to get a native english speaker to go fix their translations!
I dont think there were a lot of high expectations, so there wasnt a lot of disappointment.
i tried to download the game from a bunch of different websites so finaly i try the global one it takes 20 hours to download but i get the game at least where with the other websites that i was downloading the game from they just wasted my time now when i turned on the game i put in all my login stuff and tried to login but it said i had to select a world from the list below i say what list and then i say oh that list the one that has nothing on it so i'm pretty sure this is a great game but dam how do i select a world when there aren't any worlds to choose from and i had a lot of problems downloading.
so please if anyone can help me with my problem (figuring out where to find the worlds that i can choose to enter) please post after me and answer my question thx
hi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And you are basing your knowledge of what westerners want on......? Just be honest you, me, nor anyone else on this forum can make a comment like that. Your post is just your opinion, because it can not be proven. For every person you find living in the west that hates PnC. You are likely to find a person that loves it.
Saying Western audience prefers non-PnC is just false, sorry.
In War - Victory.
In Peace - Vigilance.
In Death - Sacrifice.
