RO makes use of quests involving things besides getting a hat?

Life is 10% what happens and 90% how you react to it!

I really like RO for three reasons: great community, good music, and cute graphics.  I honestly don't care for the mind blowing 3D graphics other MMOs provide.  A game doesn't need insanely good graphics to be fun.

I admit, RO does have some flaws, like how slow leveling gets as you progress - but that's what separates the kids from the adults.  Leveling isn't that bad when you find a party.  I don't even pay attention to that when I'm partying - I'm having too much fun to be concerned with it.  And isn't that what it's all about?

Anyway, that's just my two cents.

After reading much of what others have said, I think it's time to impart a slightly biased look at the game.  RO has both pros and cons to it, but the cons are few and far between.

Ragnarok Online, while having relatively low graphics, has an incredibly deep character system.  Starting as a Novice, you have your choice of any of 6 primary first classes ( Swordsman, Mage, Archer, Theif, Merchant, or Acolyte ) as well as 3 extended classes ( Taekwon Boy/Girl, Ninja, and Gunslinger ).  All of the primary first classes have two second classes to advance to - the 2-1 classes ( Knight, Wizard, Hunter, Assassin, Blacksmith, and Priest ) and the 2-2 classes ( Crusader, Sage, Bard/Dancer, Rogue, Alchemist, and Monk ).  In addition to that, the Taekwon Boy/Girl class has 2 second classes to advance to - the Taekwon Master and the Soul Linker.  And if that wasn't enough, there are the 12 Transcendent Classes - Trans 2-1 Classes ( Lord Knight, High Wizard, Sniper, Assassin Cross, Mastersmith, and High Priest ) and Trans 2-2 Classes ( Paladin, Scholar, Minstrel/Gypsy, Stalker, Biochemist, and Champion ).  Or if you really want to be original, you can choose the special Super Novice class.  For those of you keeping count (or trying to) , that's a total of 37 classes.  Please name a game that comes close to matching that.

While having a deep character system, Ragnarok Online keeps gameplay at a fairly difficult level, where achieving high leveled characters is an often time-consuming process.  On iRO's Loki Server, the average time for a level 99 character is somewhere between 12 and 18 months, depending on how you play the game.  For me, I have played for 3 years, and I have yet to get a character to 90.  My highest was my Knight ( lv. 86 ) prior to a stat remake.  However, don't let that turn you off.  Those are only average figures.  I have seen players make 99 in under a week, and a Trans class in 2 weeks.

Through leveling, players gain 2 types of experience on their characters - Base and Job.  Base Exp. allows players to increase their characters stats ( Strength, Vitality, Agility, Intelligence, Dexterity, and Luck ), while Job Exp. allows the character to learn a new skill.  Many times, the skills you will choose are affected by your stats, and vice-versa.  An example of this would be the Knight Class.  The Knight skill set is split into two paths based upon the weapon type - Sword or Spear.  Spear Knights are powerhouses of attack strength and defense, and will often have high levels of Vitality in their builds.  This makes them ideal for Tanking and Mobbing.  Sword Knights, on the other hand, are capable of incredible attack speeds thanks to the skill Two-Hand Quicken.  That being said, it is only natural that a Sword Knight would want high levels of Agility to increase their Attack Speed and Flee rate.

The Guild system in RO is also an unique element of the game.  Anyone can form a guild provided that they have the item "Emperium" on their character when they go to make the guild.  Forming the guild is a relatively inexpensive process, as Emperium usually sells for 100k~200k zeny in game.  Leveling a guild allows players to compete in the War of Emperium ( aka WoE ).  Twice a week, guilds compete against each other in all-out team PvP areas ( the guild castles ) for 2 hour time periods.  Guilds that successfully take and hold a castle by the end of WoE have access to that castle's treasure room and guild dungeon.  The guild dungeon itself proves to be an interesting challenge, as the monsters are often high leveled, and the dungeons are PvP areas.

Some people have mentioned a lack of quests in the game.  That is an untrue statement.  RO has many quests, each of which often has a very in depth story behind it.  Many quests give experience, however some also give items as a reward for the completion of the quest.

Finally, I've seen some people complain about the graphics.  What these Graphics Junkies don't realize is that while there are many games out there that look better than RO, you will also need a beefed up machine in order to handle those games.  RO can be played on almost ANY computer that runs Windows, and running the game on multiple computers won't kill your bandwidth that much.  I was running 3 accounts on 3 separate computers with no drop in bandwidth.

Holy Freak you are 150% right, but did you really see someone go from lv 1 to 99 in under a week? i mean, i seen lv 60's in 1 day, but 99 under a week is amazing

a lot of people have been complaning about RO lately...well does anyone really know why? I find RO a very nice game...although, it is SORT OF a clone of Ultima Online [I have to admit]. But, it seems like there are thousands of people logged in everytime I log in. It always lags because of all the people that's inside RO. Well, anway...my friends and I played RO for quite a long time and then all probably after three weeks my friends became so upset of the game because their account got closed. I do not know HOW THAT HAPPENED but it really creeped me out. Then, the word began to spred that RO has bad graphics and that their account got closed after a few weeks. I found it interesting because my account didnt get closed.

When I was playing at an internet cafe in the Philippines called ZONE.Net in Q.C. I saw someone that's a level 88.Priest and asked him about this situation...he said that some hackers might be closing their accounts or some admins have been closing their accounts because they haven't gotten to a high level [at least level 30] in 3 weeks.

    Is this possible?

Level Up runs thier game differently so I wouldn't know.  But the level 30 after 3 weeks just sounds wierd.

RO was my first MMO, so of course I still like it. It is a bit dated now, but it still had a lot to offer. I am sure that RO2 will be a great game.

I just don't know why people bash older games.

ragnarok is fun @ Guild wars and PVP, if u play RO for collecting items and making money this is not ur game. Also RO is unique because for his stat system and skill trees.

Ragnarok Online is a fun, active & great game on my opinion though it would depend on other ppls' tastes. They have a forum where you can find experienced players to give you help & advice. In game, they have "Training grounds" on interfaces, items, skills, etc. I don't I would call it a "terrible game" though.

If  you're not a graphics whore this is a fun game. I played for a  year and a half  on and off and it was fun. Graphics do not a good game make.  For me game play and community is where it's at. I never really had a problem with the community and was able to find a guild quickly.  The class system was what drew me to RO as well as at the time the couputer I had could only handel lower end graphics. But all in all I had a lot of fun with this game.

there is a reason the game is FREE. thats because its a shit game! i downloaded and tried it (i should shoot myself for that!). the graphics were pathetic the community was crap, every now and then an idiot would come up to me and call me noob. fine, graphics dont always make a game fun, but thats what catches a person attention. the thread is called "WHY DO PEOPLE LIKE THIS TERRIBLE GAME" not "LETS DEFEND THIS CRAP GAME!" its my not if you're unable to afford a decent game and some people are attracted to cheesy crap graphics. AND ONE AGAIN LET ME REITERATE, THERE IS A REASON WHY IT IS FREE!!!!!!!!!!!

    The game is freakin 2D

even mario 64 has better graphics

    god, open your eyes please!

PS if someone is too stupid to understand what reiterate means, it means to repeat and ragnarok is terrible

If you are playing the legal verson of RO it's not free it's $12.99 a month. As for the comunity I heard the same thing about WOW and GW and many  other MMO's.  You will find mature and immature people on ALL games. I've been playing games for years and I've found that some games have great graphics and suck HARD. Some games have bad graphics and are loads of fun. It all depends on the person.

  • tates11tates11 Member UncommonPosts: 17

I cannot say that this is a horrible game... even though I am not playing this game anymore but I would really defend this game for it's simplicity and it's not just about simplicity it's addicting.

You just not know whats the main attraction of this game!

    Don't judge a Game by it's GRAPHICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And one thing if the community pisses you off then your not a sociable one to understand their gaming styles
