Slight disareement, for some people (kind of like me) graphics are only one part of the puzzle. Sound and Battle system can greatly improve but overall it is not a bad game. Another thing wrong with runescape is the COMMUNITY, lots of beggars and angry ppl here folks. Second thing is the BOTS
, they screw it up for everyone else and jagex doesnt really do anything about it. So i guess the big picture around why runescape is bad is the community.
Ok, it is pointless to just say it is boring with crappy gameplay. Just repeating what the question asks is a waste of time and it is stupid. Why say it has boring and crappy gameplay when someone asks you what you mean by boring and crappy gameplay? People just say they hate it and it's boring and the gameplay sucks because the only real reason they hate it is because of the graphics...
If you play with friends, it's really great. And in a good world it's easy to have random conversations and good times. Even chopping Yews can become interesting when there are people around that will actually talk.
Every game is a grind fest. No matter what you are either trying to get something better for your character or level a skill. Different games do it different ways, so if you say that Runescape has crappy game play because of the grinding, you're saying all games do. And once again like everyone else says, it's in Java. What else are you going to do when you fight? You can't use WASD, and even if you could it wouldn't matter. Still just waiting for something to die. Almost all MMORPGs have the attack and wait type combat. Sure, you can move around in other ones, but it's still just attacking and waiting for it to die. Even if they run and you chase, it is all going to get boring anyway. And so what if it doesn't have tons of combat skills? All skills do is give people something new to argue about. Then when they figure out the best skill, YOU SPAM IT! So, saying it sucks because it doesn't really have skills in combat is sooo stupid because they don't really do anything at all but make battle animations look different and give you the chance to roll higher hits... And of course some have special effects like poison and stuff, but what do you think a Drag Dagger P++ is for?
And would you rather do a bunch of the same delivery, kill this, get that, kill that boss and bring back his head or something quests. Or ones that actually have to do with the game and can even allow you to do lots more things in the world? (ex Spirit Trees, Gnome Gliders, Faerie Rings? Dragon Weapons, Special Areas, and awesome armor?)'
As for that customization thing. There are TONS of things to change! They are even adding tons of new hair styles and base outfits (What you wear without armor) some time soon. And not to mention lots of cool random events that can get you funny and neat lookin' items of clothing or other things like gold and special usable items. Plus all the current armor with more and more coming out every few months, and you don't have to buy expansions and wait for big updates! It all comes in a steady stream of little but usefull/fun updates. I mean, c'mon. Just look at the benefits of it being in a browser?
If you don't see why it's great, then ok. I'll let you just look at the surface instead of digging deep to find the real hidden treasure...
Just thought i'd mention jagex added pest control mainly to reduce grinding.

Boring animations, boring gameplay, and horrible grinds. Atleast other games that have heavy grinding(like WoW) are able to make it somewhat fun.
There is no "hidden treasure." Runescape has a hard, sh***y outercore with a warm gooey sh** center. That's it. It doesn't get better when you become a member and it doesn't get better when you get higher in levels.
Go play some better games like WoW, GW,CoH, AO(It's free and the graphics aren't amazing), or EVE then come back to Runescape. You'd be amazed at what the other games are like.
Sure, there might some of you out there that have played other games, and still prefer Runescape, I understand that.
Also, ya, this is just my opinion. It's also the opinion of almost everybody else on this site and in the entire MMO community.
The main problem i have with most of the people who hate runescpe is the fact they never went past the nonmember worlds. Im going to state major differences between members and nonmembers:
1)Far less "need BF/GF"
2)Shittttttt looadddd more content.
3)Much less gold spamming.
4)More mature crowd
Basicly this covers most of what you people hate about runescape. Thats why you laeve it. i played for 2 years and thought that the comunity was great.
Well, Bob... The funny thing is is that i've played all of those games and didn't like them. So when you say better games, you just mean more popular ones that everyone knows about. Yeah, everyone knows about runescape, too. But they would rather play some big 3d $10+ a month game that wasn't made with Java. So, once again, no one is clarifying why it has crappy game play besides stupid reasons like you don't like working for anything, not really any combat skills, and needing Runes to use magic..? WTF? Those are all shity reasons to not play a game. Besides, if you would play it way back when RS2 was still farely new, you would see how much, and I mean HOW MUCH, stuff they have added. So, I don't know what to say other than "whatever"... So... Whatever... You don't like it, ok. I still don't understand why though...
But if I leave it at that and not question or taunt you for hating RS, then why go around saying "RS sucks you all that play it are stupid play WoW or something else that everyone else plays because it's popular you nubs you all or stupid it isn't good it sucks and you do too so why pay for it? you people are noobz.... LAWLALWLOLOLOLALWOLOLOLLAWLAWLAWOL!!!! it just doesn't have good gameplay! WoW does because its cool! and the graphics suck they should be like WoW!!!!"...?
No, when I say better games, I'm talking about games that don't suck in every single aspect of it's gameplay. Boring attack animations (Yes, the animations can make combat boring), limited combat moves (Yes, this is a viable reason to not like a game. Why wouldn't it?), horrible community, horrible graphics (Yes, it's java and no it's not a major part of this game's suckage), and tedious grinds (A game should not be about work. It should be about fun. Give me a challenge. Don't give me work.) among other things.

Is there a platinum service, or something beyond member, that will get rid of the crushing boredom and tedious grinds? Or atleast changes the graphics? They don't have to be amazing. I just want something that doesn't look like throw up.
No? Hm, well it's a good thing there are other MMOs out there. Not only are they fun to look at, they're also fun to play.
-community is absolutely terrible, full of a$$holes, and even worse on the free servers
-point and click means absolutely terrible fighting and movement
-low item/weapon/armor choices
-shallow quests, no real main quest
-too easy to level up
-small variety of combat choices
must i go on?
Gold/item selling is actually worse in a lot more games, eg WoW.
The community is awesome on members server.
I actually think Rs is near the best in terms of what to offer. Theres thousands of things to do in Rs, whereas in some mmorpgs the only thing to is fight or do quests where its kill "100" bears, which is basically fighting as well.
Ok im really sorry for the double post here, but I just wanted to point out the line i made red and made larger..I dont care whether your on a free world or member, the community SUCKS. SUCKS. The member community is slightly better, but it still consists of hackers, scammers, thieves, children, and idiots.
And about the 100 bears comment im guessing you refer to games like world of warcraft, which also suck, just not as much as runescape.
But even if the quest was kill 100 bears, thats alot better than 'collect ingredients for the cook of lumbridge' where you get to go to the chicken coop, collect eggs, go to the cows and milk them, and then go to the farm and get bread. Your right that is so much better than slaughtering some bears...and killing 100's of npc animals is basically what you do in runescape to level up, dont even deny that.
