So I get this little card in the mail from SOE, Im thinking meh, what garbage are they peddling this time? So against my better nature i read a little into it, and I recieved a little surprise.

SOE would like to offer you a FREE digital upgrade to your copy of EverQuest II to include the first three expanions and the first three adventure packs (up to a $60 value in total) and an opportunity to enjoy this established and very fun MMO on us! To take advantage of this special offer, log into your Station Account now and play for free until 11:59PM PT Spetember 15th, 2007.

Thats a pretty sweet deal considering I dont have any expansions on my EQ2 account. And pretty much a month and a half for free?

Awesome.

The quarter is comining to an end, so most likely they are way over stocked and will see more liquidation of items to cut quartely losses to a minimum. The less inventory they have to account for , the better they are.

I got the same thing in the mail.    The catch is until you subscribe to the game you can only play a few races.

Hey I got one of those cards also, though mine isn't to upgrade EQ2, since I never played it before.  My card says 'our records reflect you cancelled your Vanguard account' then they mentioned they flagged my account for EQ2 until September 15th and the ability to download the game and all expansion packs for free.

Pretty damn good deal, I get another new MMO to me to play a bit for free to tide me over for AoC.

hmm, I didn't have any race or class restrictions that I know of.

I downloaded the game, went to play it and almost all the races are grayed out except a few.

Hm, very odd, very odd indeed.  I just went back in the game to check my character creation options.  Out of the races I can be most of them, the few that are grayed out say 'your first character cannot be this race'

I really hope that you arn't really complaining about this. They are giving you months of free time on a game, along with all the expansions. Them not allowing you to play a few races seems like a fair trade for all that.  I'm sure if you decide to pay for a subscription you will be allowed to play the rest of the races.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

A month and a half is not months.

Actually, the offer started July 16th regardless of when you got the card.  So it's two months you get to play for free :p

EQ2 has been perennially out of stock since EoF was released.  They shipped more copies of EoF then the total sold for either KoS or DoF and sold out within a few days.  They did a second order within the first week and those sold out in most places as well.  Most distribution channels are empty and even the online sellers have issues keeping it in stock.

As mentioned this is a promotion for people who had an inactive Vanguard account and an EQ2 account with the same e-mail/address.  It seems to have enharited some of the code from the play the fae trial that requires you to make a Fae character first, but my guess that's a bug.
