it is likely you will gather 'resources" from battles, pve or pvp, though who knows at this point. I remember back in the day they were giving an example that an orc wouldn't collect flowers since that's against ip, but could collect bones. Of course, that was like a year ago so it could've easily been scrapped =p
Still, daoc has one of the most functional crafting amonst mmos (though it's as dumb as it gets) only being surpassed in it's usefulness to all characters nomatter what lvl by crafting in eve, eve of course has player run economy so it's kind of hard to beat eve's crafting (manufacturing) usefulness.
Yeah as it was put in one of the videos there will be no hoite toite crafting. The crafting will mean something in game they have not mentioned yet the exact type of crafting but I would suspect something soon since they are getting rdy to show the Last to armies this next week.
Mythic has been sharing a lot of info but there are some areas they're remaining very tight lipped. Crafting is one of them so we don't have any real info about it apart from the general design philosophy of it ("This isn't 'Make T-shirts'-hammer or 'Raising Ferretts'-hammer, it's Warhammer. If you want to raise ferretts you're out of luck )

There is a video that shows an Orc cutting down a tree, so i reckon most of your resources won't be comming from battles. Unless say it is different for every race, as in Orcs can scavenge parts from dead bodies while Dwarf's mine.
Are you sure thats not a greenskin pub quest? Theres a video that shows a pub quest where they chop down trees to trigger the end boss.
Several interviews have expressed disdain for the standard crafting system used in most MMOGs, at least indirectly (see Paul Barnett saying something like "Do not play this game if you want to make pants."). Remember, we are supposed to be soldiers in an epic war, perhaps even heroes. Do heroes go around knitting socks and baking pies? No, at least not in my view.
Thus, I get the feeling that they will want to stay true to the IP and to the fact that we are supposed to be soldiers, not tradesmen, while at the same time having a crafting-like system. In other words, as mentioned in this thread, crafting will probably take the form of:
1.) Collect items from corpses, etc. These might be things like bones, blood, skin...think gory.
2.) Take said items to an actual craftsman, an NPC, who converts them into an item.
I strongly doubt players will actually have crafting skills, but this is purely my opinion, not backed up by concrete information. I am glad, however, as I personally find crafting to be a boring timesink as it exists in most games. I do understand some people like it, but I am certainly not one of those. I just want to kill and pillage loot, not smelt ore.

Agreed. I'd play EVE or ATiTD if I wanted to do nothing but craft.
I like the "looting bits off people" idea. It's fun, encourages world pvp, and still should appease crafters.
So far this is THEE system they have keep under wraps, I know Mark Jacobs (CEO) 2+ years ago talked about having this system be GREAT as he was spending time personally makign sure this was good. (A long time ago there where short vids showing glances at just the first building blocks of the system [pre alpha not even in computers yet]). So they have been working on it... but we know nothign about it other than you will not be using it to make fluff (tuxes, dolls , etc) because this is WAr and its about WAR not getting married or business mettings.
But at lest off the bat (long time ago) it seemed as player will have crafting skills.

I prefer farming for resources for crafting. It really helps seperate games into two diminsions, such as those that like to fight and those who just like to make stuff. Hopefully it isn't like WoW's crafting and more like UO or DAoC crafting;)
I hope that there is going to be a good crafting system. There certainly is going to be something, but I guess those of us not yet playing will just have to speculate.
WoW has a very broad range of crafting careers, all of which are essentially the same, but quite frankly are considerably boring. Hopefully Mythic will steer away from the cut-out's that most MMOs use nowadays, (which is what they seem to be doing with everything else) and create an innovotive and new crafting system.
Crafting in DAOC was tedious, but its usefulness to players in the game was without question. I'd be surprised if Mythic completely discarded a successful feature of their previous game in making WAR. But, as I'm not in the beta, I'm only speculating.

i'd like to see something that fits with the theme of the races...
like make the different crafting "professions" and the recipes available to crafters differ depending on race.
That way, you don't have Greenskins picking flowers and slaving over mines but instead just picking up random bits of rock and sticks and then tie it together with dwarf beards and call it a choppa

There will definitely be crafting. It will be involved and rewarding, but will not take hours upon hours of farming to accomplish.
Thats all we know, coupled with all I'm willing to assume.
Lol it's some kinda weird. in WAR u always kill enemys, so maybe u will recive some points to buy mats? or something like that.. or u'll need to farm?

Impyriel is right. That was supposed to be a public quest. Not crafting.
I think they also mentioned that each race crafts with the stuff thats appropriate to them i.e. Orcs with shit...
Hey ! They simply make stuff that hurts. But they don´t care what its made of or if its durable...
Im really hoping that there will be some type of crafting similiar to the Engineering in WoW (without the BROKE factor).
Im up for anything that enhances a charachters Uniqueness in combat.
But how that would fit with a Races lore could be tricky.
It would be nice if the crafting items are somehow part of RvR/PvP
AKA looting bits of armor or bones off your enemies (like in Alterac Valley in WoW, except maybe useful this time)
Or, perhaps, you could have gathering skills (woodcutting, mining, etc) and could turn in the materials to help your realm and earn rep or whatever.

Man anyone else liked those Tuxedos from WoW? I always liked having one cause it makes me look like a hit man.
Lol nice idea!!
I would love to see a crafting system like Star Wars had Pre CU. I found that challenging and rewarded for those to worked hard at it.
