Can LCD's be fixed?

ElapsedElapsed Member UncommonPosts: 2,329

I turned on my LCD TV this morning only to find the screen is black with a few random red, blue, and green vertical lines. The screen is not cracked. I tried messing with it, but it seems to be broke. Anyone had to deal with this before?

OK I hit it, now there's a picture, but the colors are all off and there's a lot of static. No, it's not the cable.

Heh, don't hit it anymore, or you'll burn out pixels in the screen.

More than likely there's a loose connection on one of the circuit boards inside. All I can suggest is to find out how much a shop would want to fix it, and then compare that to the cost of a new unit. More than likely, you'll end up spending as much to fix it, as you would scrapping it and getting a new one. But ya never know.

If it turns out better to replace than pay to fix, open the sucker up and look for loose solder/wiring, partially seated boards/connectors, etc. You may be able to salvage it yourself until you can afford a new one.

I opened it, pressed on some wires and now it works, but for how long ...
