Producer's Letter: Alternate rulesets, incentives for helping lowbies

neschrianeschria Member UncommonPosts: 1,406

The Producer's Letter on 8/13 (or 13/8, for you people who put the day first...) had links to a couple of threads where they are looking for ideas for special ruleset servers and incentives to get players helping low level players. There's a thread about special ruleset servers on the "Newbie" forum too, for those who aren't currently subscribed.

Just thought I'd point that out for people who want to have a say.

ooh special ruleset servers may get me playing again especially as I have no characters and everyone will be low level possibly.

Edit: heh most people seem to be jumping over themselves to get either a classic server or a slower progression server.

I they are serious about getting vets to help lowbies they should implement the system from EQ II. Have mentoring down to help lowbies be the fastest way to earn AA points.  Would it be abused by multiboxers?  Yes, of course it would.  Will that hurt the game more than  new players actually being able to get parties and advice from veterans would help the game?  In my opinion, no.  Net it would be a huge benefit to the long term health of the game.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

Yeah i think the classic or a very very slow progession server would Rock and bring in a large population.

I think that they should have gave a crap about helping lowbies/newbs when there were actually lowbies/newbs wanting to play. Little too late now, I think. But, at least they're trying, right?

An improved ruleset is an outstanding idea!  If they did it right, it could possibly transform into an enduring game.

    (1)  Do not allow a few guilds (in some cases two) to control the server.  That is, to control mobs, accessibility to raid content (and other content) and so forth.

    (2)  The Epic Quest system should be revamped in some ways so that 50 Enchanters are not all going for one mob that spawns once every two weeks!

    (3)  Unlock each server based on time, not accomplishment (e.g., release Kunark one year later).

    (4)  Add instances to encounters, dungeons  (e.g., for the dragons timed for raids, etc.)

    (5)  Do not permit hacking.

    (6) Mentor system.

    (7)  No corpse dropping.  Hell, no experience loss.  If you insist, 10 percent maximum per death.

    (8)  Cautiously read posts with suggestions.  Very extreme (beyond hardcore) people tend to be actively involved in gaming to post suggestions on forums.  Remember: they are a minority  (do not pull a Vanguard).

    (9)  GM Events.  A cooperative based system.  If you are in the zone, you are apart of the raid.  All receive rewards.

    (10) Think:  Fun, Accessibility, Lore.

    (11)  Read this:  most of us EQ-vets are working with families, and those of us that are not have even graduated from college and are in highly intensive professional programs.  our time is limited.  But many of us would love to play EQ again that would fit into our demanding schedules!

Idea on Servers (not necessarily related to (1) to (11) above)

    1)  A server up and only to Luclin (or PoP)*

*many will want a server up to Velious only (and I am one who would be willing to pay for that, most definitely).

    2)  A server in which people can join and automatically be at some high level with outstanding gear.  Why? People will pay money just for that server to experience the raiding.

    3)  Progression servers that open a new expansion every 5 months, 6 months, or 1 year or some established period.

    My Perfect EQ 1 Server

I do not have time to get into every detail; that would literally take weeks if not months.

    (1)  1 year of classic; 1 year of Kunark; 1 year of Velious; 1 year of Luclin; 1 year of PoP

    (2)  Mentor System

    (3)  Instances (and using timed encounters for raids; i.e., not one mob for an entire server)

    Commentary

Geez, I had so much fun in EQ 1.  However, I refuse to repeat the progression server beyond PoP.  It is a mistake and a waste of time to participate in a "progression" sever without rule modifications.  On the other hand, I am certain a server(s) with various modifications would be a great success for EQ.

They obviously aren't paying attention.  Whenever they opened up the progression servers people swarmed in like crazy, you couldn't even move in some of the zones it was a blast.  If they didn't see that and don't use that to their advantage then they aren't as money crazy as we all thought.
