  • VincenzVincenz Member Posts: 1,498

    Really?  It is?

    WoW=14.99 a month

    Vanguard=14.99 a month

    EQ2=14.99 a month

    LOTRO=14.99 a month

    COH/COV=14.99 a month

    Matrix Online=14.99 a month

    SWG=14.99 a month

    Seriously dude, if you want to complain about the game feel free...but blatant lies are just plain silly.

  • VincenzVincenz Member Posts: 1,498

    Few more for you...

    Anarchy Online=14.99

    Lineage=15.00

    Lineage 2=14.99

    Auto Assault=14.99

    EVE Online=14.95

    Virtually every major MMO on the market today charges this same amount...just like DDO.

  • BaccadmBaccadm Member Posts: 15

    DAOC = 14.95

    Can anyone think of one that ISN'T?

  • VincenzVincenz Member Posts: 1,498

    I hope Scottish can, since he didn't just claim it was more than SOME or a FEW MMO's, but MOST ;)

    Surely he can come up with 1 or 2 (that aren't ridiculous F2P jokes).

    Okay, well let's not count subscriptions that renew any longer than a month at a time...if you go that route, a lot of the ones mentioned will change.  I think we are referring to subscriptions that will charge every month.

    Oh, and Kenze?  That is probably my favorite quote from any movie ever.

  • TalynTalyn Member UncommonPosts: 587

    Don't forget EVE is $19.95 for the first month you actually pay, then it's $14.95 monthly afterwards...

    There are very few subscription titles under the "standard" $14.95 monthly fee.

    Seems to me that's about 4.49 too much LOL!

  • scottishgothscottishgoth Member Posts: 27

    Yea you see you started on the wrong side…  see you have to look at the games with the high server populations not the most hype.

    Ultima online  12.99

    Sims online 9.99

    Ragnarok online 12.00

    EverQuest 9.99

    But lets not forget the biggest guild wars… o yea… that one is free to play.

    And every one of the ones on this list have WAY more content than DDO

  • VincenzVincenz Member Posts: 1,498

    sorry, have to get this out...BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

    OK, where to begin.  First?  You said "more than most mmos out today"...well, we named over a dozen.  You named four.  Exactly what fuzzy math world is 25%  "more" than 75%?

    Ultima Online??? Come on man...it's a ten year old game.  Sure, it was one of the first greats, but it's still a 10 year old engine, and barely updated graphics.

    Sims Online???  Nuff said.  This is hardly an MMORPG...it's the Sims man.

    Everquest???  Yeah, it's less money to play than Everquest 2...you know, the new game as opposed to the old one, that's 8 years old and sees now 1 expansion per year.

    Ragnarok??? Oh for god's sake...please.

    And let's not forget Guild Wars.  The only  real MMO (sort of) that's free...hardly a precedent that others should price by.  We provided a list of the mainstream MMORPG's on the market today, and they're all priced exactly the same.  You provided games almost a decade old, predating their sequels, and...well...ridiculous comparisons like the Sims.

    Piff, I'll br the firdt to say that D&D simply isn't very fun, but scottis that's just beyond a pathethic excuse of an argument. Give it up.

  • scottishgothscottishgoth Member Posts: 27

    Ok since I am the only person who can do math.  Taking numbers from mmorpg.com the true authority on mmo gamming.

    Mmorpg.com has 134 games listed as active games so not up and coming games

    Of the 134, 55 games are pay for play games

    15 of the 55 are the same price or more than ddo

    So that would be 11% of all MMOs are the same price or more than ddo

    And 27% of MMOs that charge to play are the same price or more than ddo

    So if I say “most”… I am talking about the other 73%... and yes 73% out of 100% would be most.

    Then if you look at the games rating on this site, DDO is 59th out of 134.  I was trying to pick games that are around the same rating at ddo to compare prices with.  You know… trying to compare apples to apples not apples to oranges.  If you look toontown is rated higher than DDO and that is just sad…

    Um...goth...you do realize that just to the left of your post is the "released games" list.

    There's 35 games on there...not 134.  The list you're referring to has games not released, games out of business, etc. etc.

    out of that list to the left?  let's see...

    EQ, Guild Wars, FF XI, yep, it's pretty much the same list and same percentage of games that are priced at 14.95 or more per month...about 80%.

    Seriously though goth, pick a story and stick with it please...

    1. The game is priced higher than most MMOs (then you see it's not)

    2. The game is priced higher than most MMOs based on content!...(which isn't what you said originally and a joke)

    3. The game is priced higher than most MMOs on the list of all MMOs ever, released or not and still operating or not!!!

    yeah...that's it.

  • scottishgothscottishgoth Member Posts: 27

    what are you high?  the released games list to the left of the post is not the full games list.  that is just the forums list.  get your information right before you post.  there are 134 active mmo games.  that seems like a lot... but thats the list...  now most of them are not very good...  but most of the not so good ones are free.  kinda where ddo should be...

  • scottishgothscottishgoth Member Posts: 27

    you know i am really looking forward to getting another star next to my name on here just arguing with you bout how bad ddo is...  by the way how do you feel about EQ2 i was thinking about trying that this weekend.  i hear they have content...

  • VincenzVincenz Member Posts: 1,498

    " there are 134 active mmo games"

    Really?  Cause on your "134 list" it includes: Age of Conan (not out), Age of Armor (not out), Aion (not out), Atriarch (not out)...and that's just the "A's".

    Seriously man, reading comprehension FTW.

  • scottishgothscottishgoth Member Posts: 27

    no why dont you go and count before you post... come seriously...  the 134 number does not include games that are not out yet like i said on my post.  it only includes active games.  so here is the breakdown since YOU cant count.

    total games listed on mmorpg.com 206 games

    total active games 134

    total up comming games 72 games

    134 + 72 = 206 total games.  dude its all about math just count... use your numbers like your kindergarden teacher told you.

    I think you belong on a different site, my friend.

    How can you call a game, in which all you do is play the role of a character, not an MMORPG?  In case you didn't pick up on that, I put role, play, and game in italics (which is what RPG stands for).

    Also, good job on RO.  I was moved by your analytical skills.

    LOL...come on now, trying to compare Sims Online to DDO, WoW, DAOC, EQ2, COX, SWG, etc. is just silly.  Does it fit the definition of an MMO?  Sure, there's multiple players online.  Does it fit the definition of Role Playing?  Sure, I guess you play a role.  Does it fit the definition of game???

    Not in my book.  I do laundry, eat, clean my house, etc. in R/L.

    As to Goth, why do you think they've made the refined list to the left?  It's so it doesn't include 100 of the games you're including.  Games that have been out since 1992, games that don't even have websites in English, games that don't even have websites at all...have been excluded.

    Your argument that Sims Online, Football Superstars, and Alien Adoption Agency should be included in a discussion of the cost of DDO is just ridiculous.

     EDIT: Pez, feel free to live it up n the Sims btw.  But no, I'll never consider it an MMORPG in the sense of this discussion.

    I honestly think that DDO should be a one time fee game, for instance just buying the game is enough, like Guild Wars. I've been playing MMORPGS for so long it makes me sick to even think about how terrible some of them are and how they're still even alive. I'm not convinced that DDO has enough content, nor is capable of having enough content to be charging a nickel off of what World of Warcraft charges, when in my opinion WoW isn't even that entertaining for a Casual Gamer, it's one of those games where you HAVE to be a zombie to feel like you're getting anything accomplished, whereas in Guild Wars, you can hop in and its entertaining ANY time, AND has a great story line, I don't know, I'm just rambling now but DDO should not be P2P, not worth it by a longshot.

    Lad you never played DDo in any way so I don't know why are you talking about lack of content. Stay away from DDo and stick to GW if you are not interested in P2P games. I would be willing to pay even 50$ montly for DDo as its the best game on market imho.

    You either love it or hate it.
