From what I've seen in videos and screenshots, this game is all too similar to a certain world of wars and crafts. I'm not sure how it plays, but some icons on the interface, a lot of effects in combat, and how people battle in this game is just too similar to that Blizzard game while watching these videos.
Just looking at the icons with the cooldown dial; they look nearly identical to those of a certain other game with millions playing it. Hopping around in combat, jumping off of cliffs and throwing fireballs, it looks to me like the same thing with a new paint job.
Here's a video with the interface and combat and whatnot.

The least they could do is try to prove what's different about it; this video only shows how similar it is to other games. It's rather shameless of them to copy and proclaim originality.
I don't know what the hype about this game is all about and I won't pretend to know. If someone who has played both WoW and Fury objectively could clear up this speculation with explanations of how innovative this game truly is, it would be much appreciated.

I think you're misunderstanding. According to the site, Fury's innovation is the combination of "the pick-up and play nature of an FPS with fast paced RPG combat and the social elements of an MMORPG."
WoW's UI is the standard MMORPG - minimap, action bar, health bars, party, etc. I personally think it's kind of retarded that people keep drawing comparisons to it, as if it was the first game to ever use such a layout.
Yeah...the difference in Fury from other games is the gameplay , not so much the interface.
I found it a refreshing change from the grind of "kill X amount of bad guys and farm for this, that, and the other thing before you can really PvP". The fights are faster and the balance is good and will get better, since being a PvP only game it is at the top of the Dev's list.
So while it might look like just another sword swinger, it does offer unique gameplay being a "PvPMMO".
this is why its widely regarded, especially by the younger more stupid MMO community as the only MMO and all others (even those that came out before WoW) have apparebtly copied from WoW (which is especially funny considering there is nothing original about WoW anyway)
If anything this game will be like Rakion. Which even then those 2 when compared will be hella different. No flame but I dont see how this can be like wow. Guys im really getting tired of this crap wow this wow that. Dude I was that at launch and I have a mini diablo pet you can get. I play on and off its mostly because of friends. There was games like wow before wow sooo hmm does that mean its a clone? No because it has its own content!! But who gives a shit im on my second 40 and im just rambleing!

I completely agree with these posts. Blizzard is doing nothing to push the envelope of this or any genre, and is instead analyzing games and copying what they think works; so it's true that WoW is totally unoriginal. They're doing the same thing with SC2, which is possibly why it has taken them this long to announce it.
If you take a closer look at the UI of the two games (WoW and Fury), they are nearly identical. I have played many MMORPGs, and the one I compare Fury to is World of Warcraft since they appear so similar. I look at EQ, EQ2, EVE, DAoC, AO, CoX, FFXI, and SWG; their interface designs, textures, and the colour pallettes used is entirely different from that of Fury's. The games themselves have almost no art similarities between them.
However, it is unmistakable that there are many appearances shared between World of Warcraft and Fury. For a game that wants to be known as original, it sure doesn't try very hard.
Fury has a minimap, action bars, health bars, party, etc.
It is wow Battlegrouns/Arena with the following additions:
1) No PVE, earn everythign in pvp
2) You get 1 character and he can be a healer one fight, a warrior the next, and a wizard the 3rd. You play what your team needs, but you have to get and develop the skills to do it.
3) There will be more types of battlegrounds.
4) The skill combinations you bring to battle are as important as the way you fight.

Second, as you may have noticed on here, i run a so far successful radio station based on MMO's and i know Dan Grey and Alex Weekes from Guild Wars very well... I deal with NCSoft on a daily basis, my guild is active in City of heroes, WoW, Tabula Rasa, Guild Wars, Lineage 2 and many others and are just deciding wether to set up in Fury (ok JR, its still under debate in the guild, but i think we will) and are currently in talks with blizzard about a guild and radio station deal aswell...
However, WoW is the first true European and north American MMO to actually get recognised and the MMO market was very niche before WoW came along and all the Warcraft and Starcraft kiddies jumped on the bandwagon, on top of the Blizzard fanboi lifers out there... and THAT is why WoW is considered one of the only MMO's out there...

No, its just WoW with only PVP. Nothing to it at all.
Having played both, I really only see a UI comparison.
Fury is incredibly fast-paced. It's the very definition of lightning war. In fact, for your first few battles, it's almost impossible to tell what's going on while you get mercilessly slaughtered over and over again. World of Warcraft is *not* fast-paced. Not like this, anyway.
Fury really does have the feeling of Unreal Tournament, except in a fantasy setting, with some character progression. Like I said before, the UI is similar to WoW, but that's about where it ends.
Now, neither game is really my cup of tea, but I can't see how the gameplay between these two is anything alike.
--------
"Give a man a fire, and he is warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he is warm for the rest of his life."
I have played both and would have to say there is actually very little to compare between Fury and WoW.
The game play is totally different: Fury is fast paced class support oriented like GW, play style more like Unreal or Gunz.
The lore is totally different: There are no elves/dwarves/cows/orcs, etc all i have seen so far in beta is humans.
The look is totally different: Granted this is just beta but this game looks more like GW with some Lineage style movements.
In fact there is very little in common to WoW other than it is a video game with some fantasy elements.. if you wanted to be remotely accurate in comparing it to something I would say its a cross between RYL and GW.
I have played over 30 mmorpgs, this game is no where near like WoW.
There is not a whole lot innovative about it in my mind.
Agreed I would put it in line with Guild Wars pvp and graphics. It is very fast paced as far as combat and run speeds. There are a ton of abilities blowing WoW out of the water in that respect and unlike GW you can have many more of them on your quick bar. Plus the changing of Classes is nice, and not being stuck in one spec as well. It will take awhile to get used to for WoW players and I didn't feel like I was that good till I hit the Adept level which I believe is about the 4th level. Then the melee people started to pay for killing me at low levels.
this is why its widely regarded, especially by the younger more stupid MMO community as the only MMO and all others (even those that came out before WoW) have apparebtly copied from WoW (which is especially funny considering there is nothing original about WoW anyway)

Ok, i shall restate my argument...
World of Warcraft is the first commercially successful MMO in Western Europe and North America, because its the first to be released there first and not in china/korea... It was also helped by a massive advertising campaign in both of those territories where playing MMO's WASN'T a commercially and socially acceptable hobby, unlike korea and china...
Just as Guild Wars is NCSoft's top selling product in north America and Western europe, due to its release in those territories firs, WoW was released in those territories and suceeded there because of the massive fanbase that blizzard has and the aggressive marketting they did in those territories, nothing more
And the statement i made about it "being the only true MMO out there" is a reference to those territories and the younger age group playing it that doesn't know or hasn't seen many other MMO's before it and as such it is the first foray into the game genre, muddying the waters and making them think that it is the first MMO and then they make comparisons
Not to join the argument or anything, just here to point out that the first mmo was a text based MUD, no graphics involved.

i see alot of ppl answered you..i dont know what that means but they did!WoW is considered one of the only MMO's out there...why then the company's releasing mmo's?they wanna loose their many?i wont argue with you any more!we got a vevy big gap in knowledge and opinions!
ps.the most burn out ppl in wow that play mmo's 10years(i was 1 too but droped it cause i dont have 10+ hours per day like i had in college)and i know alot of them...wont tell you that wow is the first true mmo or its the only mmo out there cause they have history knowledges and remember!dont all suddendy forget all these years of mmo's and pretend that wow is the FIRST mmo that ever released!

1. The topic, in my opinion, is flawed in that Fury is "just like wow" in the way that WoW is just like every other preceeding MMORPG, Blizzard did not "invent" the UI.
As to the above statement;
Sorry, I simply can not agree with you on this. World of Warcraft was by no means "the first commercially successful MMO in western Europe and NA".
Anarchy Online, launched 2001 EU/NA : still running
DAOC, launched 2001 EU/NA : still running
City Of Heroes, launched April 2004 EU/NA : still running
(EU releases may differ from NA)
WoW may be the MOST successful and widely recognised western MMO but not the first.
Ok, again, i'm a games journalist and your spouting thing I know?
and as i said first commercially successful! Not forst released!
WoW has bought the MMO genre into (as i said before) an acceptable niche and hobbie (or could that be lifestyle) within the two territories, with (according to Blizzard's figures) 6.5 million players (ish) in the EU and NA territories alone, thats an unprecedented number for any game in those territories... Guild Wars is up just under a million players in those territories with others trailing behind...
Now of course, these numbers don't compare to Korea and China's games and games players, which both outnumber and soundly beat games like WoW on player figures in those territories, however, WoW is regarded in the games industry as the first successful in NA and EU due to its wide acceptance and the number of generated players there...
EvE online only has a player base of 40,000 roughly... City of Heroes/Villains is around the same, Auto Assault had its servers nearly all closed last month, Lineage and Lineage 2 are reported to have only about 20/30,000 players between them in the EU and NA areas, so yeah, besides spouting others, WoW is a trend setter and market leader in those territories
However, back to my original point, i said that WoW is considered the one and only MMO in the EU and NA by younger gamers due to lack of knowledge of other games in the genre, especially due to a general lack of marketting for them and simply because of a lack of playerbase in the EU and NA... Which is a shame, because WoW does nothing new compared to some of the others out there, the only real reason I play it is because of the lore of the Warcraft universe and because my guild wanted to expand... otherwise i'd happily stay playing lineage 2 or EvE online

I'm not convinced by your quoted figures sir. I was under the impression that World of Warcraft had in the region of 3.5million North American and European subscribers and the larger part of blizzards magic number was made up from Chinese subcribers.
You seem to have misunderstood some of my points, namely that I did not simply suggest that games such as AO etc were released first, but was countering your statement that World of Warcraft was " the first commercialy successful" AND "having being released in the west before the east", making it a western developed game.
I was pointing out that in my opinion the games I listed were both released here in the west before being released in Asia, were released, developed, perhaps conceived before World of Warcraft and still in operation thus making them "commercially successful". Which in turn counters you original claim "World of Warcraft is the first commercially successful MMO in Western Europe and North America, because its the first to be released there first and not in china/korea..."
Perhaps your idea of commercial success is very different to mine. For me, commercial success means that in this case an MMORPG would need to attract enough subscribers to meet or surpass it's operating costs. The games I listed have done so for 6 years in some cases, that to me makes them a commercial success. Maybe if you were to say that World of Warcraft is the first main stream, hugely successful western MMORPG, then yes I agree, as I agree with your other statements.
Yes, my argument is pretty subjective.
For the record Auto Assault is dead, kaput.

Annnnyyyyywhhhhhooooooo. WoW's UI is the standard MMORPG UI, and it's a UI that most people are familiar with. So, yes most, if not all MMORPGS will most likely follow the standardized MMORPG UI, even if it is a MMOFPS or some other genre of MMOs.

Well feel free to tune into the station, we're looking for more people to help it grow, so jump over to www.sanitarium.fm and help it grow
other than that, why would I mention the details I mentioned above without actually having some form of figures to back it up, yes, i know some do, but why would anyone go into a 7 message debate about the situation and still have informed ideas
Oh and out of a personal note, although I play it, for my station and my guilds sake, i hate WoW, and I'd rather be out doing something that doesn't consume my life... (or i'd rather be mining in EvE, yes, tedious, but i'd rather that than WoW)
Hell, i originally started on MMO's witht he likes of neocron and Lineage, i've tried most and used to work for GAME in the UK (bloody horrible company to work for, but i made lots of games company contacts and some good friends doing it) and I'm still waiting for something that will bring something new to the table and i just don't see that happening... Ok, Fury does it differently, but like Guild Wars, its still more of the same with a different take on it...
just want to stop this arguement and tell you maybe WAR,AGE OF CONAN,RAGNAROK2 or even DARKFALL will bring something new to the table....dont know it yet but hoping at least WAR do that!
and for the record i had a flash yesterday and i thing i remember a char lone samurai in many games i have played!last 1 i remember maybe its me or you played coh and you had a scrapper?just to say my char name was Rorix Bladewing!
Nope not me
My CoV villain is only 3 weeks old and yes, he's a scrapper, but I use Tyr Dominator as my main character name in most games
However, playing the WAR Beta's and being a massive Warhammer and Game Workshop I WAS really looking forward to WAR... however, that before EA got involved and after th utter abomination that is EA Link, i will not play an EA PC game again... Even C&C3 is collecting dust on my shelf, as is BF2142 and I was enjoying it
