Banned

smsaks2000smsaks2000 Member UncommonPosts: 3

My account is showing up as blocked when trying to login thru the client and shows banned on the NCsoft website. I have no clue what's going on.....I didnt do anything wrong.

I have sent 3 e-mails via the website "Ask A question" link to find out what's going on but havent gotten a reply to any of them. Does anyone know of another way I can contact someone and find out what the deal is?

Thanks!!

    1. Did you actually open a support ticket through the "Ask a Question" mechanism?  If so, you can login to your support account and check your "My Stuff"|Questions to check the status of your support request.
      •  Are you a member?  Members receive advanced support whereas non-members (free players) typically receive very basic and/or automated replies.
    2. Regarding banning, in general, here are the most common reasons (according to PlayNC Support):
      • Unacceptable in game behavior, such as crude language, harassment, racism, or other actions that offend other players
      • Advertising of hacks/cheats/bots/macros, game accounts for sale, or of the websites that promote such things
      • Spamming, that is, repeating chat lines frequently over a substantial period of time
      • Defrauding, harassing, threatening, or causing distress or unwanted attention to other players.
      • Breaches of the User Agreement or the Rules of Conduct
      • The use of an inappropriate name
    3. I think character names are the most common, personally.  What was yours?  My guess is that this was the reason for which you were banned.
    4. It is possible that you could have been banned in error.  I had a character banned  in such a manner and--after opening a support ticket--received a generic reply detailing the common reasons above.  After I asked support to look into the issue in more detail (since I was a member), they replied that the account had been "blocked in error for an improper name. "  Support then replied "We have since reviewed this and have removed the block on the account. Please write in to let us know if you are still having issues accessing your account."  FYI, my character's name was "DeadeyeDick", which I picked because it was--in my opinion--appropriate for a Ranger (I was thinking of Old West-ish gunslinger names) with an eye patch.  I also thought the alliteration was clever.  At minimum, Customer Support agreed that my name wasn't improper and reinstated my account as indicated above.

Hmmmm...after reading the above, I think it may be due to my character name, which is "Assy". Pretty funny, though, cause I've been a member for over a month without issue.

Will I have to create a new character or will they just give me the option of changing the name? I'm level 20 with great loot and over $200,000. I'd hate to lose all that.

    Thanks,

Oh - hey.  I grouped with you the other day as "UberAlice".  As far as name bans go, that one's kind of iffy in my opinion, but Customer Support probably errs on the side of caution and conservatism.  I've reported a bunch of names, but there were all much more crude, hateful or explicit than yours.  Also,  do you have another character on the account with a bad name?  As for having been a member for over a month, that's basically a matter of coincidence.  The game doesn't have in-game support or GM's, so unless an NCSoft employee happened to be playing, chances are you simply went a month before a player was offended enough by your name or actions to report  you (reporting is a pain, btw, since it also involves using the "Ask a Question" system - most players don't think it's worth the hassle, even if they think a character should be reported).

I'd recommend you discuss the issue (civilly)with support by corresponding back and forth with them via email or by updating your ticket online on the PlayNC support site.  Only they can tell you what your options are.

They also seem to have  a name filter when creating accounts (they wouldn't let me have "Tiggobitties"- I was out of ideas), if you played WoW, etc. then keep along those guidelines- a friend of mine got banned for "Ballzdeep".

    A witty saying proves nothing.

Why is it so hard to come up with a name that's not going to get you banned?

If you HAVE to push the envelope, be prepared to face the consequences.  That's part of the game you've decided to play.
