Really, why would I want to come back, what will it offer?

I posted this here because of the negative feeling it has towards the current state of the game.

I am not a jaded vet.  I didn't get shafted like the Pre-CU vets.  I came in on the CU.  I left with the NGE and came back in winter 06/07 and left because the game became dull.

I tried it then because of the COA.  I even had fun for a few months and cancelled because it beacame dull.

I tried it again after chapter 6 and immediatly left because of dissapointment.

This upcoming holiday season is going to be a bust for SWG.  There is no expansion planned.  There is already a comprehensive game pack (COA).  The chapters improvements are just rehasing old ideas back into the game.  Some of the planned chapters are again changing currently functional mechanics of the game, such as droid engineer.

I am already playing a more fun game in the SciFi genre than SWG current state.  Plus the game I play will be supported for years to come with "new" additions to the game not just rearranging how it works now.

Even for me someone that had some fun with the NGE mechanics, they grew old fast and there are better games availible.

This game will more than likely be shut down with the next SW MMO launching.  Why continue to invest the time?  Any time?

This isn't a knock againt those that play and like the current game.  It is just IMO I see no reason to come back, for me.  In its current state I don't find it fun.  Beautiful world, but not fun.  FUN.  I see no long term draw with it.

So, seriously to the objective current players, what will this game have to offer me to come back.  What is the real future of the game.  What will make me think this is better than availible games.  The fact it says SW is not enough.  If i need a SW fix bad, I can watch a movie or play KOTOR to get more fun than what IMO this game currently offers.

To disgruntled vets, please don't haze any current players that may respond. Please keep it objective with disscussion, not name calling.

I really want to know why there would be any reason to play this game.  Right now and for the forseeable future, i can't see one.

So your not looking for a real answer, rather the answer you want?

Not sure what yo mean by answer I want.  Since it was highlighted in red I will explain why it is here.  It seems any thing negative posted in the current forums is summarily dismissed as a digruntled vet and either locked or deleted.  I welcome any feedback either positive or negative.  I just don't want a flame war.  I am seriously trying to find out why, I should ever play this game again.  I have seen current players post here too.  Maybe it was foolish of me to think it could be discussed objectively, I know.  But I have played the current and don't like it for reasons stated.  If someone had a insight or reason such as what it will offer please say so.

Well they're two different forums, each carry a different opinion of the game, I currently enjoy SWG, but if the game isn't for you, you shouldn't play it. Not every game is for every person, It seems you've already made up your mind, so i won't go into why you should or shouldn't play the game. If you enjoy it, play it. If you don't enjoy it, don't play it.

Surely thats all you need to hear.

Chapter 7 is starting to look alot like an expansion on it's own what with the 5 new instances and a brand new collection system (will be 100 of them initially).  This will probably be the first chapter that has a broad appeal to nearly all playstyles in the game rather then just being focused to one group such as the previous chapters were.  I haven't heard of any changes to the mechanics of the game being introduced with Chapter 7 (by this point with Chapter 6 we knew about the changes being made to the stats).

From the pannel at DragonCon, it was revealed that an expansion for the game is in the early stages in plannning for a release next year.   SWG's development is far from dead.

You had fun in the NGE? and only came in during the CU? ................

To OP, why even post to the disgruntled vets if you wish us to keep our mouths shut?

Seriously, go post in the current section where players are happy with joy over the current game.

Thanks for the reply.  Many would say you are a fanboi blind to the game.  But i think you are good for the community, even for those of us that are feeeling negative towrds the game.  I have never seen you attack (flame) anyone.  I will have to wait and see the feedback on the new things you are talking about. I made the mistake of paying to try chapter 6.  It is not a mistake I will make again for chapter 7.  I will use a vet trial for that or not at all.  I will make up my mind then.

    Again thanks Obraik.

Actually I welcome even negative inputs. I feel bad for what happened to Pre-CU and would actually like to play it.  The reason I posted here is because i have negative feelings towards the current game and the current forum doesn't tolerate negative views.  They get deleted or locked fast.  I was hoping to start a non-name calling disscusion with current and vets alike.  Again I don't want you to keep your mouths shut. I thought everyone that had prepaid subs when the NGE hit should have got a refund for false advertisement and should have sued when they refused to refund prepaid subs.

I really wanted some disscussion and reasons to play the game if not now then in the future.  I welcome any vet that has a counter point to any current player that posts, I am all for it.  I just didn't want a bunch of name calling.  It ruins disscussion.

    Thanks

In the TOS sony clearly states the game can be changed at any time without informing the player, so a lawsuit was and is pointless

Actually, till it is tested in court its legality remains in question.  Plus advertising a direction of a game and delivering something else smells of bait and switch.  To the best of my knowledge there is no law in the US that allows a contract to protect against that.  I am no lawyer.  But I again the EULA has not been tested in court in this case to know for sure.  If you are not a lawyer your opinion is only as valid as mine.  Just an opinion.  Of course if you have a precedent case involving online games I would like to read it.  Please incude link.

Thanks for your input.  I like the disscussion.

Numerous people tried to sue and failed, they're isnt a link because it's not big news.

When joining an MMO the TOS will always clearly state that your account belongs to soe, you're just borrowing it to play, all items belong to SOE, and so does the right to change everything and anything at any time. Standard business practice.

Thanks for the input but I have to disagree.  I remember reading this on ABC, CBS, or NBC news (I can't remember which one).  It included letters from players. For the U.S. at least that is pretty big news considering it is a game.  To the best of my knowledge SWG and SOE have not been sued at all over bait and switch.  I have not heard of any MMO producer being sued over bait and switch.  In fact I remeber a recent disscussion talking about this on MMORPG reguarding wether or not a lawsuit should happen.  At no time that I recall was a similar existing lawsuit mentioned.  Only disscussion of a possibilty.

I found the CBS national news link where it made headlines.

    CBS link:   http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/02/21/tech/gamecore/main1335511.shtml

    MMORPG link:  http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/thread/143846

Again this is not a bash SOE dissussion and a flame war.  I post these because you brought it up to dispute my previous statements.  Again if you have a link to any previous lawsuit against SOE or any MMO provider along the lines of EULA legality and limits, please post.

    Good disscussion mate.

    Cheers!

Challenge yourself i would say. Let me try and explain.

7 months ago i returned, started all over, new account (actualy lost and couldn't remember my old account details at first sort of been blocked out of my mind) anyway......looked around some and notice like many state the market was way over-priced, and here is where i got my first challenge, to show (if only for myself) that I had it in me to change the market, maybe not for the total game but atleast for my experiance, this meant i started to plan my play as a trader, i already had this advantage as i've for the biggest part always been a crafter in pre-cu SWG so knew what to expect, also i'm no grinder and don't like macro's that let me do things i could easely do myself, the only macro i use and the only macro i ever used in SWG was my ADD spam message. The rest well why play a game if i'm not really playing it  To continue  I made 2 characters, both Trader , wel sorry thats what i like about SWG, my Structural trader made Master about 1.2months ago, so took him about 5 months to become master and my Master engineer made master 2 weeks ago, meanwhile i've been collecting so much resources that i'm pretty safe for a while, also have made almost every component needed in my factory's, which wil enable me to make any type of droid, sctructure what ever my profession can make in no time if i get custom orders, well it does take some time since we traders are still stuck with low inventory space in our houses( would like ot see something in a Traders expertize tree to get more house space, (did like the vet reward of 200item storage added)anyway seek a challenge in things you enjoy out of games in this genre and see if you can do things that other say isn't possible, or create your own story line, don't be guided to much by a game. My next challenge wil be BM, i've made 21 pets/mounts all different stats but all rather simple and nothing really great, as i want to experiance it completly so it has to wait abit before i really get into it. You see i'm a very patient gamer, what doesn't get done today can be done tommorow or the day after or...wel you get it :) I don't play these games like a job, thou i admit i can be somewhat obsesive when i'm in my crafting trip

Find something to challenge yourself with is the only thing that keeps me playing games like this, if the challenge is gone then for me its time to find me a new challenge

Here's my take.  I'm a former vet who has retried this game several times and still find it lacking.

I see fun in there.  I can see it.  The problem is this glass wall that is lack of players to interact with and a fidgety combat interface.  This glass wall allows you to see the fun but not get at it- at least for me.

If you play MMORPGs for player interaction, choose your server carefully.  Only a handful have any real population.  The rest of all but deserted.  If you don't care about playing with others - well, there you have it.

As to my problem with the interafce- this may be more of a function of my being a vet and "trained" with the original functionality that I haven't been able to shake.  You, being post CU, may not have the same problems.

Botton line: Give it a try.  Don't draw on annonymous opinions.

    Thanks Reklaw,

You are right patience and finding ways to challenge your self are an important part of any gaming experience.   Maybe the reason I don't get satisfaction from this game is I don't see a short or long term payback fun wise in playing this game.  For me I was bored when I tried BM.  Not by the BM but by the rest of the game (except space).  The BM became a dissapointment when I found out after working it for after a week I could not create decorative house pets.   Stopped BM.  The ground game became stale as my crafters were already mastered and the forced quest combat grind grates on me like sound of a dentist drill.  Don't get me wrong, there is plenty I can do in the game.  I just can't stand the ground game forced quest to earn XP.  In this reguard its not about challenge.  Its down right repulsive.  Its like saying overcoming the fact a chick you just met has herpes is a challenge.  I tried to see past it, but I can't.  The only saving grace left for me was the space portion.  I had multiple toons I could take through the differnt squadrons of the factions.

Maybe I'm over reacting.  But the forced quest is just not fun.  If it was fun cool.  But it isn't IMO.  Rember I have already mastered all four traders.  Till BM brings in decorative house pets it holds nothing for me.  Space is cool, but it isn't worth 15 US$ a month alone for me.  And Ents.  A person with a second account can lvl that in less than two days to 90.  If in a guild two days is still possible.

I'm glad you enjoy the game and wish the best for you but I will have to see great feedback on any changes that come along before I would consider subscribing again.

    Cheers

No, I have seen the lack of players.  I ghosted new toons onto different servers only to see them empty.  However my primaries were on a current "populated" server and saw people.  Only the amount I saw when I first played in CU.  Even then, you guessed it, Mos Eisly.  And some in Restuess.  Thats not to say I didn't see people around.  Just any consistancy was there.

I think the problem I have is they have added that glass you mention even in the NGE.  They took out all lower level repeatable quests and pretty much forced it for you to do the linier quest line they want you to.  No deviation and if you want a buddy to help kill random mobs for XP, make sure he is the same level as you.  This only makes it harder to find someone willing to do it with a low pop.  I would run across 4 year elder vets and they would help me every time.  I run across someone my combat toon's level and they were always to busy.  The nice vets lvl 90 would kill the XP for my lvl 60.

Any way I will continue to watch this game.  I just won't pay to play it.

Do you really experience harsh emotions over a game? You should try seperating yourself away from your PC more, not trying to be rude here but if a game means that much to you maybe you should stop playing it.

Like 200,000 others they did when it was ripped from them by the Corp.  $0E..  That's the point!  If they gave back the game that was then there would be no pain, frustration, Tears, and anger.

I myself have played the trials it just makes me miss the old game.  I'm over the addiction that was my first MMO glad to be on to other MMO's that actually eh Hem "WORK"

Just go read the official forums and decide for yourself if its worth returning to. I continue to read it even after quitting with the CU, its great for a laugh. The continuimg whine about bugs,no content, poor costumer service.screwed up AI,etc etc etc. and the list goes on.

It keeps me from going back.

Agree. Stoped playing long time ago right after NGE came live. As im paying EQ2 now and recently started SoH i signed for station access and could play SWG again. Was great too see some old friends but i just couldnt really play, game is still crap, at least in my opinion. It has nothing to offer that would make me stick to it.
