Hiya everyone,
I read some of the topics regarding how to make money in SL, but all of them involve either investment or other biggies like real estate. I'm not an expert on either and I'm not really interested in earning huge sums. I just want sufficient amount of Lindens to get myself some good clothes, like maybe two hundred $L or so a day.
I tried some of the so-called "surveys" offered by various places such as Money Island (they're not really surveys...), but all of them require me to buy something I don't need, and probably all of them are scams anyways. I'm not saying that I expect a lot of these "surveys" to be actual surveys, and I don't feel comfortable about giving out my credit card number or my other personal information to random scam sites, but are there any ways to make a couple of hundred $L in SL relatively quickly? There's this really good skin that I want to buy and I'm short about $L120 ^^ I'm still new to SL so I really don't know how these "paid jobs" work, so I'd be glad if someone can introduce me to making in-game $L ^^
Thanks in advance!
Suki

Easiest way to make a few hundred would probably be to camp in camping chairs, or take a job scrubbing floors (same difference, but the animation is more amusing, I think). There's some kind of doodad you can pick up that makes it so that the game doesn't log you out for being inactive (I'd imagine ones are around for free), so hunt one of those up, go get a camping chair or dance pad, then leave yourself logged on while you sleep or go to work.
I just bought linden for a while until I got my first jobs; easy if you have a credit card or paypal account. The exchange rate seems to hover around 250-300L per 1 US dollar, so for the cost of a good cup of coffee (or two) you can probably afford your skin.
Once you get into the game, there are other avenues such as building, scripting, etc., if you have some talent and know how in those areas. That's where you can make some serious money. And you can also make a profit in real estate, although that'll take an initial investment. You can also work for people in the club scene as a DJ, host/hostess, security person, dancer (that'll mean taking your clothes off), or even an escort. It's the latter two avenues that I've taken and done quite well, but SL is nearly as various as RL in the ways you can make your money. It's not easy, though--there's not an actual in game mechanism like killing and looting monsters that lets you accumulate cash. This leaves a lot of folks at a loss when they come up against it. To make decent money that pretty much lets you get whatever you want in game, you either have to buy it from the Lindens, or you have to be enterprising and be able to do something people are willing to pay for.

Ah I see. I didn't want to get into the complexities of purchasing L with real money. Also SL is more of a leisure for me, I doubt I'll do anything serious in it anyways.

This sounds like a pyrimid scheme to me. Be careful not to put any of your own money into this if you are trying to make money. That's the whole "scam" of it.
This just sounds like an aweful game... Everytime I come here out of curiousity I get a bad vibe after reading posts like these. "I buy in game money blah blah blah" ouch. Games are supposed to keep requiring you to dump money into them as much as this "game" seems to. It almost seems like this "game" needs to be somewhere other than an MMO site. It's more of a pyrmid-ish business than a game no?
Inform yourself a bit more about SL.
the easiest way to make money is to take skills you've trained yourself in your first life and apply them to SL. forinstance I'm spending a whole bunch of money for a 'bussiness' programming degree, so I picked up scripting did one project for commission on sales and I've been making enough to feed my small shopping fees and all my MANY uploads.
I've met people who right guides for products because they are a good writer and make more in one go then I do in a month.
the only thing is that some jobs are just less popular, or have a lot less demand. the whole point is networking in the game. there's also a forums on the account manegement screen that has a looking for workers screen.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
