being a Game Master must be a pain in the ass most of the time, dealing with problems of the terminally retarded and ever-noobs and all the whining about god knows what...
but today i've been revisiting Alganon (formally Crusade) a David Allen MMO in development to see how its progressing... anyway i came across this (old) MMORPG.com interview and noticed something i missed before... GM controlled mobs
DA: Our staff will also make the world a much more interesting place by controlling creatures in the world, and throwing off the ‘standard AI’ from time to time. There’s nothing quite like attacking a nasty zombie only to have it yelling “let me feast upon your eyeballs, Charlie!” as it chases Charlie around…
Empowering the proper division of Quest Online Staff to enhance the game is one of our most important mandates.
i would love to freak-out some player dude by controlling a lower-mid levelled mini-boss and do some RP trash-talk... or play the misunderstood zombie that just wants a hug (before feasting on your brains)

This sorta reminds me of the "good ol games" of UO when I used to polymorph into monsters, the opposite sex, or animals. Nothing like owning some newbs in the form of a chicken.

OR Imagine jumping into the skin of a dungeon boss on a rp server and really scaring the group/raid when the mob suddenly pulls out of his usual routine and begins to taunt players as they battle. A bit of an extra challenge but make it worth the players while with a little extra rewards. That.. would rock.
EDIT: In fact that's why I wish there were small mmorpg's that did things like this, small servers and playerbase that concentrates on catering to the community and working together to making a fun game. I'd certainly throw my hat into that ring.
