At first glance the environments and characters do look distinctly anime, and I have to admit I've never found an anime mmo I've liked so that is deffinitly a hurdle. But I'll reserve my judgement on a game till I have a chance to play an open beta, all MMO's are 99.99% hype untill you try them, then it all comes crashing down. Heck, I wanted to play Tabula Rasa till I got on beta...Now I just raise giant mutant ants and train them to fight as my personal army.
A few months from now, playing Aion, suffocating in your own shit
There's a quality poster right there!
Aion has LESS features? As far as I know it has all the features thse other new games coming out have.. RvR, Competition for 'castles' or camps which enables you better mats and such. An interesting story line that your character actually follows via quests and mini movies, dungeons that you can do solo and some with friends. A crafting system and mats you need to find in the world, the classes are a bit traditional but they do branch into more advanced versions. Character customisation is pretty in depth and on par with western games, if not more so.
Flying is not a mode of transportation it's part of strategic fighting, also you can use it to find items and mats high up (I think??) As for transport there will be other means available. The only ports we know of lead to the Abyss and hopefully it stays that way.
It's a pretty good start feature wise imo.
As for the point of this thread, I also hope it does fairly well but not too worried about being number 1 or whatever.. I hope it's along the lines of lotro and eq2 is now, big but not outrageously big.
From what I've read there will be less features then other upcomig games.
keywords right there.
In fact, I decided to re - post what Synhelll just typed.

From everything that has been released about Aion i think it will make a pretty big stand and a really big impact on the MMO comunity, Now i am giving the devs a chance to prove that it is not just another asian grindfest ( though they havnt said much on how they plan to do that, besides in depth quests and story lines), the story line so far looks pretty dynamic, and the "story" will differ from server to server pending on the actions of the players (really cool). will it hit #1? possible, i doubt it, at least there will be no hurricane Aion like there was with WoW, ,the NCsoft fanbase is huge already due to there other games, but no where near rivaling Blizzards. but so far Aion has a chance, looks promising, as for those bashing the game, isnt it a bit premature to bash it? dont fall for all the hype, but do the research yourself (with the little information that is available). nothing so far makes this game look like crap, it has a beautiful design, the features anounced so far are definetly features that gamers on these forums have been screaming they want. It wont be the GodSend of MMOs, but i think its yet another step in the right direction.
from what i have read up on it i think it's going to be a good game imo. but like other ppl have said i dont think it will top WOW or WAR both of these titles have so many fans. dont get me wrong im gunna try aion out looks like a great game in the making but im also gunna play WAR like alot of ppl. i think the "asian' games are really looked down on in NA. so aion is gunna have a big up hill fight from the gate. but i think it should be in the top 5 easy as long as they can deliver what they are saying. ncsoft is a powerhouse i think they can pull it off at least i hope they can
What do u guys think honestly does this game meet ur standards in a mmo to achieve this goal? in my personal opinon this game is everything i have been looking for in a mmorpg... with stunning grapics , gameplay , flight system aswell as pvpve. I have been readin alot of posts relating to how people think Aion will be some typical korean grindin game which got me really annoyed cause they dont research enough before they post a reply.. I kno its kinda early to be sayin this now... but from what u hav seen can i get some opinons thxs.
Don't get me wrong Aion is my top game and systemholic Rohan. But I rather a grindfest then questing. Grind is there, quest items not always or they a bitch to get. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty War and AoC will have more features then Aion. Hell even SWG has/had, whatever happened to that pile of junk, more features. Castles sieges were already implemented in Lineage 2 and others. Systemholic rohan and *cough* *cough* darkfall players can build their own cities. Also AoC has environment affecting gameplay, as far as I know Aion will not. Everything that you've just sited is nothing new. As for the wings well thats pretty much it. Where Aion will top everyone is in gfx. Also just look at the customization of characters. Like you said flight will have a major role on how they implemented it. If its like perfect world and its just there to be pretty thats pretty shitty if you ask me. Note: havent following as of late Aion just waiting for release
Everything is just speculation and interpretation of similar games. Nothing is definite until we actually play the game. They can release new videos and dev interviews but even then its all crap till i play the game. Castle sieges are pretty common but usually the way u go about them are completely different from game to game. Just because they do things other games do doesn't mean anything, cause they could do it so differently that it makes it new. So until alot of ppl actually play the game its all speculation.
As much as I love arguing with the uninformed ranters that are adamant about this being a typical asian grind when it clearly isn't, it has become quite pointless at this time. Information for this game on mmorpg.com and other fansites is far from thorough and it seems that the dev staff aren't ready to release most of the information in regards to the game. While most of the people that have been here in the Aion forums for months like Gameloading, JJ, and Powerpolk reporting information and browsing other sites for information, many people just don't have that patience.
Honestly if the dev staff aren't ready to start hyping the game more and a more honest release date is closer to Q2 2008 there is a lot of time for the misinformation that circulates to be dispelled. If you guys are going to try to compare Aion where information is scarse and in many cases unconfirmed to games that are already out or soon to be released(WoW, WAR where information and videos are plentiful and people have actually played) expect these comments. I myself think Aion is everything I'm looking for in a game and I'm pretty sure when it comes closer to release the buzz will grow exponentially. So until then don't worry about hype, it is NCsoft's job to worry about that not ours and they know what doing!
Don't get me wrong Aion is my top game and systemholic Rohan. But I rather a grindfest then questing. Grind is there, quest items not always or they a bitch to get. No game run by NCSoft will, or should be number 1! or even number 10 imo
Customer support anyone?
Did you experience any other than the one run by ncsoft austin? the other territories are not that bad (customer support level in games overall ranges from non-existing to "meh").
The lineage games run bu NCsoft had the worst customer support i ever experienced back when i played.
No wait scrape that, they had NO customer support.
Automated response emails to my petitions which didnt help at all, no online gms etc etc I m pretty sure that people who have played L2 at least can attest to that.
That would be ncsoft austin. Don't judge all the other ncsofts (kr, eu etc) by that offices crappy attitude towards customers. Ive heard the korean one is great, and from other ncsoft games ive seen that the eu one is pretty good too.
As much as I love the idea, and even tho I believe in Aion bekomming a very succesfull MMO, I honestly dont think it will become the No 1.
1st of all because of the graphic style witch, as beautyfull as it is, just doesnt apeal to the masses. You wouldnt believe how many people hate japanese char design (I myself prefere western style).
Also, to become No 1 it would have to beat Warcraft, and we all know how imposible that is... Not unless it has a Blizzard logo on the box....
Not even a chanse. Korean Characters means whole game is Korean design so NO none korean grinders came to the top and they never will.
I hold a wolf by the ears...
Do I tell him to do check the game out before making such hastened assumptions? For which he will probably retaliate with hollow arguments we have been through so many times before.
Or, do I look the other way? For which the games reputation risks being damaged (the question is how that is any of my business, but i digress). People believe what people read, after all.
By this post it should be obvious which one I chose.
NCSoft, "is" a Korean company. It could be #1 in Asia and Europe, maybe in the world, but not in the U.S.A.
you are very wrong! where i live (Europe, Norway) this shit company isnt even known Korean company stays in korea THX! Blizzard Mythic etc is the real thing were talking bout! and lets see i read somewhere on
www.onrpg.com that this game is point and click game WOOOOps like every Korean free shit games! after 2moons and such i gave my hope for korean games they never get bether!
Q.E.D.
Like I said. People believe what they read. Aion is not point-and-click. Aion is developed in Korea, but it's not a "grinder". See the difference? One is a country and the other one is an adjective. Im also sure plenty of norwegians play Guild Wars - another game published by ncsoft. Stop being such a groundless hater.
newgame.17173.com/content/2006-07-20/20060720143431431.shtml - 37k - Letters dont even shows on this site lol. there supposed be chine or something letters. YEAH GREAT! HOKOLOKO u understand what i mean this is same as 2moons and all this games who never got the top.
I'm betting against it. My personal history with NCSoft games includes Lineage 1, Lineage 2, GW's, and COX.
All were decent games, and I had a bit of fun with them... playing each anywhere from 3 - 6 months.
None were appealing enough to play for any great length of time.... but then again, only DAOC (2.5 yrs) and WOW (1.75) years ever went for longer.
The two Lineage games just had too much grind in them for me, GW"s I wasn't into its design, level 20 level cap (I like leveling) or PVP design. COX was an oddity, I tried hard to like it (loved the flying part) but again, design issues made it not very fun after a period of time.
OK, now on to AION. Of course, past performance is not necessarily an indicator of future fun. And from reading the links posted by Gameloading and others it would appear that AION is planning on traveling down a different road than its predecessors.... so perhaps it will turn out to be a big hit.
I'll give it a try to see how it plays... but right now I can't say that I'm sure it will be a great game, nor will it take over even the number 2 spot overall here in the West. (though worldwide it might just trump all, who knows?)

I personally think that it will get enough numbers to support itself. Will it be number one? Who cares. Only the companies should imo when trying to earn cash. From the player perspective though....who gives a shit?
It will (and already does ) appeal to many people. If you don't like it...move on. If you don't give it a shot....move on. Having the most subscriptions only makes a game number one in earned money. Doesn't mean the game play short/long term is any good. "OH, BUT NUMBERS SPEAK VOLUMES" Well, there was a time when everyone had slap bracelets too, doesn't mean they served a good purpose.
And Omg....I can't believe someone actually said that NCsoft can't compete with Blizzard. Blizzard has one MMO....who may do more when compared to a particular game, but NCsoft has many and right now leads the gaming world when it comes to MMO's.
Guild Wars alone has sold over 4mil copies who may have been created by Arenanet but runs under the NCsoft umbrella. L1 and L2 still are running. City of heroes/Villains is still going strong. Tabula Rasa I'm sure will do well (I may give it a go). And Aion will find it's place. I also have no doubt Guild Wars 2 will out do the first.
I also see big things in the future for this company gaming wise with it's new found creation in Carbine Studios which incidentally is as of right now made up of many of Blizzards WoW creators. It's a norm in the industry to move up and out, but it seems that when Blizzard guys leave...they go to NCsoft. The guys from Arenanet, now the guys behind this Carbine thingamajig. Alot of which were a huge chunk of brain power behind what Blizzard has done to date so I think NCsoft is in good hands.
