GW2: Pets

WeareweareWeareweare Member UncommonPosts: 195

I know this might be unrealistic, but what if rangers or secondary rangers in GW2 could have ride-on pets, like riding on a tiger. Possibly their health could be intertwined or something of that sort and of course if you chose to ride on a pet it would have its ups and downs... any ideas or thoughts? Also if they did introduce ride-on pets, what would u like to see out there?

well IMO pets need a few changes.

Riding pets would be cool, but then I think there should be some kind of animal or something that all professions can ride on as well, otherwise you’ll see mostly rangers or part rangers out in the PvE world riding around (assuming pet speeds will be faster than walk/run). It'll be just that rangers will have more available to them.

As for which pet I would like to ride on, I’ll be the first in this thread to say… A Dragon!

or a yellow Moa that I’ll name Chocobo

But seriously, pretty much being able to ride any kind of animal would be nice.

As for other additions, I think there needs a place to store pets in like a barn. I know this sounds something like pokemon, but other professions can switch builds fairly fast. If you have a dire wolf, you’re stuck w/ a dire wolf. Switching to a build that needs to have your pet tank more like a hearty bear would cause you to have to go out, get rid of the dire wolf you spent time on, then capture and level a bear. And even then, sadly I’ve read that most pet stats aren’t very different from each other as they should have been. Meaning it would have been nice to have bears with more armor or health, while wolves give more damage, etc.

But yah, I would like to see better pet support in GW2.

(Please note that this is coming from a PvE'r that hasn't played beast master much.  )

NO, this isn't WoW, or EQ, or whatever...

And what do we need mounts for?  we can map travel

    Easy Lone....

If you notice he did state GW2...I continue to think it is too early to talk about it, but I wanted to point out he was offering his hopes for the future game, not the current game.

As for pets I do wish there was a stable aspect to the game, but it is not anywhere close to a big deal for me.

Agree on greater differentiation among pet types and the damage they do.  Bears: smashing (hammer) damage, with an occasional knockdown thrown in.  Big cats: slashing damage (sword) with some bleeding thrown in.  Lizards: piercing damage (attack speed of Sins) with some poison damage thrown in.  Birds: Piercing (beaks) or Slashing (talons) with some weakness or deep wound thrown in.  (You get the idea).

Instead of making these player-based attack skills (which you have to carry on your skill bar), make them inherent to the type of pet you have, and let the secondary effects of their attacks kick in (knockdown, poison, etc) when they critical, but tie their crits and the duration of the conditions they cause to the level of aps you have in beast mastery.  That - IMHO - would make pets a lot more useful, depending on the situation (a pet that caused bleeding or poison would have limited use against foes like Jades, but a bear would be great!).

Plus, this would simplify the whole beast mastery skill set, which - as far as I know - doesn't have more than a handful of useful skills now as it is.

Just an idea for GW 2.

P.S.  Pet damage could be capped at half the value of similar player damage, if balance were a concern over this idea.

This would also make a pet "stable" a really cool idea.  Stock your stable of pets the way you stock different types of weapons, but charge a maintenance fee for each pet you have.  After all, they need to be fed and cared for  :)

Sorry.  Tired and "writing out loud."  Pay no attention to the man behind the keyboard.

This is true, but we're still having map travel in GW2 aswell

Ok a mount may give a speed boost, but as long as thats all it gives, i'd have no issue with it, espcially if it was made a PvE only skill and not usable in PvP
