ACK.......I hate it and I haven't yet played......bought the combo pkg for WOW...thought I would ck it out before I open it (to me $40 is lot of bucks for game)....cant ask questions in WOW forums cause you cant create acct without opening box and getting KEY to create account soooooooooooo..dam...then I come here to find out I guess...WANT to know if the characters have any customization...how many people think it might be worth $40 + fee...I know it has some pvp..cool but I dont want PK...so far I havent found any info and most peeps on this site have more info then others lol. *sigh......help if you pls! Oh almost forgot...is this game full of bots, spammers, etc and do you think you HAVE TO buy gold for the thing or can you play without investing more bucks? I am not rich lil girl..have to watch my spending
talents allow for very deep customization. keep in mind though most mmo gamers that play wow play a class usually one of 2 viable builds for a class. but GOOD players experiment more and pwn just as hard.
pvp wise. this is probably your game then. you can play on a "blue" server ( pve ) and still have full access to the cross realm battlegrounds. which is a lot of fun. again, youll hear a lot of first time mmo gamers complain about "premades" which are a group of friends that play together all the time on the same teamspeak but again, you can run into that in any game, be it mmo or fps. i love the battleground system its a ton of fun and completely optional.
spammers do happen yes, but blizzard has been harder on them than anyone in the industry. and if you see someone spam you to buy gold, boom, right click their name, click report spam, and yer done.
as far as buying gold, no, the best gear is either nodrop via an instanced dungeon or nodrop via trading in pvp honor points and marks or medals from battlegrounds.
dispite what you may hear around here, wow's a great game. theres a reason it has almost 10 million players. its fun. but this site is probably the worst place to ask. mmorpg.com gamers tend to hate anything that is successful. the vibe around here tends to be all about the underdog. no matter what game of the moment that is.
good luck.
This post is a little unfair. It's not that the people on MMORPG hate anything that's successful, they just like games with vast complexity and depth. This is a website made popular by MMO players that have been around for a long time, so alot of people here have been around since UO. It's not that WoW is a bad game by any means, in my opinion. It just lacks everywhere. Character creation is good, but it certainly insn't the best. My quest log can only hold a maximum of how many quest? 25, while the log in EQ2 goes to...200. Then comes te Talent system which is a stripped down AA system that's been in many games since the original EQ.
The good thing about these stripped down systems is that it's easily accessable to pretty much anyone that can click a mouse. The bad thing is that the game will be very boring for people that have already seen these systems on a much larger scale.
Now comes the hate. Alot of original MMO players dislike WoW because it essentially took complex and awesome RPG games like Baulders Gate and turned them into Diablo, and if new games don't hit the million subscriber mark, then they are failures in the industry. Essentially WoW took a genre that's games would be successful if they hit 100k subcribers and turned it into a commercial circus, thus ruining the complexity and depth found in so many earlier MMORPG games.
No reason for jelousy I mean we can all subscribe and buy the same games, there are just people that want more, and have been waiting for that something for a long time now, pretty much, months before WoW hit. Now that WoW is still going strong developers are trying to catch the WoW cash cow, instead of making Complex and In-Depth mmorpgs that actually give you a reason to play other than to beat everyone else down.
It's a nice explanation, but I don't think it holds much water. Why? Because I don't think there is an MMORPG out there that has more to offer than WoW. You've made some points, but you've compared WoW to several different games and tried to show how they were better than WoW in one regard. But what you didn't show is how 1 game is better than WoW all around. Because you see while some games are better in 1 feature or another than WoW when you compare ALL the features that a game has to offer, most people are of the opinion that WoW comes out on top or at least matches it. It's easy to take 1 feature in WoW and explain how it could have been better. Now tell me which game you feel, feature for feature is better than WoW. Not saying you can' t do that, some people honestly just don't like it. But on the other hand its very unfair for people to say that WoW isn't that good, it's just popular. It's popular for a reason. And that reason is that it has a ton of features that the majority of the people like. Isn't that what it's all about?
