Has anyone else got one of these and tried to log back in?
If you haven't, Sony is sending out post cards to past subscribers telling them that their account has been reactivated for a short time so that they can try "the new" EQII. Unfortunetly, this is Sony after all and they have to screw up something even as basic as this.
I spent 6 hours downloading the client and all the expansions to log in and find that they had deleted all my old characters and that they would only let me create new characters with one of the 2 pixie races.
I don't care how improoved EQII is; I am not going to start over from scratch for any game. Bye, Bye Sony yet again.

Err.... my characters back in 2004 are still there and i haven't subscribed to EQ2 since 2005. Maybe you should petition customer service first before doing your snap judgement (or is this a troll post?). Are you sure you're using the correct account ? The deal is pretty sweet imho, you get all the current expansions for free including the faydark expansion + 2 months of free subscription. Are you sure you download the correct game client ? There is a separate client for the trial and the full game download from here. The game client is huge for the full game + additional voice/music is around 8GB client.
Imho I don't mind starting over, the game is very improved and the leveling curve is very easy to level up now compared to 2 years ago.
same i had all my account characters there but guess what i decided to play on the new pvp server due to the fact its load was heavy compared to Vox which was Light.....this game still rocks and after playing literally everything on the market maybe this will be a push to play eq2 till AoC or WaR come out, than again maybe i iwll get so bored of it again and axe it.
i must say though a verry well rounded game overall
My characters from 2005 were still there. It sounds to me like you were playing the "Play the Fae" demo, and not the full game.
Out of curiosity, what was the postmarked date on the postcard?
This would definantly be the Fae promotion trial...You can't get a new trial on an account you already had years ago.
So, anybody wanna tell me what the deal is?
Are they sending postcards or emails?
And is this an actual re-activation of accounts or just a free trial?
I have high doubts it happened. Usually, they make sure it gets known. Also, how is it possible that you could only create characters with the pixies? Thats like impossible. Are you sure you haven't downloaded the play the fae trial?

Sounds like all you ever played was a trial account.
My account was a real one (both of them) and my characters are still there since I created them. I got one of those emails (I had planned to get in and warm up for RoK anyway) and low and behold, my account and characters are still there and the account has been active (free) for a month.

It may be another reason too. The European servers was split into a different region, you can still play on EU and/or US servers, but they do have different clients (same patcher). If you had your characters on Runneneye or Splitpaw, they may look like "missing" if you try to log in with the US client.
To change region, you need to change the Region before you click "Accept" on the EULA on the patcher.

This one is MUCH lamer than the other troll. I mean really, what angle you trying to work here. Everybody's 3 yr old niece from Nova Scotia knows these games never delete characters. Seriously, not even worth my time. BUT....
I give it a: -2
No creativity at all. Trying to work on a basis apart from the game itself in any way to attack the company itself. Trying to base findings on a VERY well known fact to the contrary, and mostly just making himself look even dumber than the company in question. This is evidenced by the backfire in the responses.
"Granted thinking for yourself could be considered a timesink of shorter or longer duration depending on how smart..or how dumb you are."
