Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR

I played World of Warcraft for about 1 1/2 years. 1 year was full of raiding, dungeons and such things. That was until 3.1.
Then I had enough of the game and it "the same again and again".
Well... seems like I don't. At the moment I am looking for a MMO with really good PvE. I hate WoW. That's something I admit. But I also have to admit that the PvE-part was the best I have ever seen in any other MMO. (And I played many.)
So... what am I looking for?
I want something that focuses on teamplay, but can also be played solo. I don't want something like Guild Wars 2, because I don't really like the dungeons with that gameplay.
Something with the "holy trinity" would be more enjoyable for me. It doesn't really have to be something static or old-fashioned, but GW2 "abolished" Tanks and Healers. That's one of the few things I hated about it. Take the main roles from a player and he won't play (or at least like) the game anymore. (I raided as a Tank in WoW and in most games I either play Healer or Tank.)
Leveling shouldn't be such a pain in the ass when playing either Tank or Healer. I made the mistake of leveling as a healing paladin during Burning Crusade. Ever tried it? Not funny.
I don't mind monthly subscriptions, but I don't want a pay-to-win system. Shop? Okay, but only if it really is cosmetic, like in GW2.
As I read the different sections in your guide, I noticed, despite falling into the various categories, Wizard101 was not listed in any of them. Just curious as to why?
Wizard-101 would be right up your alley. However, despite loving the game, the customer relations and some of their policies are really making me consider quitting. I have a lot of time and money invested and it's a shame to see a great product ruined by poor management. For example, they have pvp tournaments that cost real money to join. The rewards are awesome. However, they REFUSE to tell anyone how the winner is determined. The over all game play and concepts behind the game are awesome but management is making poor decisions and making changes that are destroying the empire they had built.
Gave it a try and I'm very satisfied, cool sandbox browser MMO, with deep levels of crafting. The english servers opened a month ago, so its pretty fresh, they will add a new area today also.
If anyone still looks at this forum, you should try Jade Dynasty.
This game is addictive, yet easy to walk away from. This game provides a BOT system which allows one to grind while away from their computer giving them the freedom to level up while attending to personal matters.
Player Interaction _________________________________________________________________________________
This game is best enjoyed while doing pvp. The pvp allows pkers, guild wars, duels, and battlegrounds. The pker system causes the victim to drop items only if they have pked someone recently. Wars are frequent and are fought by people on a high level range ( 105 - 150 and 105asc. - 160asc. )
The pve however is pretty bad. Mobs are ether super weak or super strong. The only interesting mobs are the rare bosses and event bosses.
This game, as of June 2nd 2014, has a level cap of 160 ascended. When the average player reaches level 150 they get the option to ascend. When they do that they go back to level 15 and have greatly increased stats.( a level 120 asc. character is as strong as a level 150 unasc. character ) Leveling to 150 is easy due to the BOT factor.
Auto Grind_______________________________________________________________________________________
The BOT system allows the player to set skills into what the game calls an esper and have it control your character and fight monsters in the location which you set. You do take damage so you should place potions in the esper so your character doesn't die while you're away.
Class __________________________________________________________________________________________
There are 14 classes to choose from each with different skills and abilities. These classes are able to interact fully with one another - clans and alliances - without any intervention, so you don't need to worry about pairing up with your friends.
The game allows players to create clans and alliances. The difference between a clan and an alliance is that a clan is formed up of people and an alliance is made up of clans. The alliance is led by the lead clan's chief. This leader create wars with other alliances to raise the fame of the guild. If the alliance is considered the best in the server the leader of it is considered the king of the server.
This game is free-to-play so go play it, but don't spend money on gambles. The cash shop has the basics most f2p mmos have, clothing and pets. The added thing it has are lottery tickets and other gambles which have a chance to give you rare items, but they cost a lot and can be addictive. A very interesting thing this game allows is the buying of cash shop points with in game gold. This of course costs a hefty amount of gold, but it's better than using real money. The BOT system lets one acquire the gold needed to buy any item you want on the cash shop, if you are high leveled.
Final thoughts____________________________________________________________________________________
This game is really fun when played. When you feel too weak to do anything the time it takes to level is lessened due to the auto grind. PVP is what makes this game. If you're competitive, or like basic pvp you should try this game.
I've played GW2 FF14 and Wildstar the past few months and recently, I've been trying out Firefall, seems to be doing it for me and I plan to keep on playing it for the forseeable future.
The user and all related content has been deleted.
Somebody, somewhere has better skills as you have, more experience as you have, is smarter than you, has more friends as you do and can stay online longer. Just pray he's not out to get you.
Can't anybody recommend a good MMO that features magic, mages, and a little thinking involved instead of the hack and slash of World of Warcraft?
Thanks,
Scott Felske
FFXIV probably best suits the criteria you gave. The game can be quite easy until the higher group/raiding portions of it, but IMO it has some pretty difficult content that requires everyone paying attention.
Tera also has a more complex battle system, I'd look into that, and it's Free to play if that's a plus for you.
I would also suggest looking into Blade and Soul, but I keep hearing the learning curve is quite steep (I haven't played it myself yet).
Well still I'm currently new to this Rohan since they've opened up a new server and tested it. Well for a beginner like me, grinding in this game is kinda pain in my @$$ since sometimes you can't really grind or hunt down since there are players that has greater level and powerful than you that'll kill you instantly. Or worst, you'll be KOS'ed.
Legends of Mor is a free online MMORPG with a fantasy setting. It features the conflict and chaos between the Goddess Mor and the fallen dark force and involves players into the struggle of the light and the shadow. Choose a side and fight for its victory.
Players in Legends of Mor can try out four different character classes each at a time. The Seeker is a male warrior wielding a two-handed sword; the Archer applies the force of ice to her arrows and has the chance to deal critical shot; the Mage casts spells unleashing devastating force of lightning; and the Necromancer maneuvers the elemental and disease magic to beat opponents and assist their allies. The character classes are traditional with according skill sets and gears and develop with quest-led level-up.
Legends of Mor has the similar setups to many other browser-based MMORPG. It has the various established concepts like quests, equipment enhancement, mounts, player-run shops, PvE and PvP fights, group play, guild and more. And all the elements are structured conventionally, being level-locked and unraveled gradually with character upgrading. It entails a mellow start with some grinding in questing before the diverse contents become activated and available.
Legends of Mor Key Game Features:
Enter the world as a Seeker, Archer, Mage or Necromancer and switch between the four demigods to experience brand new skills sets, battle style and quest line. Explore a beautiful world rife with varied monsters, terrains, items, NPCs and so on. Get a mount and gain bonuses not only in traveling speed but also in basic attributes during combat. Unlock companion demons and combine them to your character for enhancement. Open and run your own shops to buy and sell items with other players Pick up gears as loots and merge the less useful to make your favorite equipment stronger Make friends, build a team and join a guild for the common goals, economic gains and more.
Updates are done on a regular basis and players participate actively in the creation of the new content. LOM is indeed A REAL FREE MMORPG with friendly gm's and is build by people suggestions.

I don't see Wildstar on the list, perhaps I missed it.
All these colors make it very hard to read for me, I could not get through it.

This is a great list, but unfortunately it's quite out dated.
There are some new games that aren't on the list as well as some games that have closed shop (vanguard )
Thank you for posting this.
