If you're not stuck on combat, A Tale in the Desert is a great little indie game which focuses on art, science, and diplomacy. I did a lot of crossbreeding, working with the genetic code of flowers; there are a ton of other activities such as sculpting (I made trogdor!), glass blowing, gem cutting, running for Demi-Pharaoh, vineyard-ing (totally not a word...but you grow grapes and make wine), and so so much more.

Awesome! If you start playing, I recommend using the ATITD Wiki as well - it's a massive resource of player-collected information.
The game is really unique, and really has that indie feel. The lead dev hangs out in game all the time (Pharaoh), and actually listens and talks to the population all the time. One of the coolest events I saw was a team of people who started up a theatre and put on a play; to support that, Pharaoh gave them an item that would help them set up scenery.
Good luck in Egypt!

"Woah, nice Sculpture" "woah, nice X-server errormessage" Well, i think they improved on it, didnt they? Maybe i will try it out again, it was quite refreshing. Sandbox³
I only ever ran into one bug - and it was gamebreaking enough that I called Teppy, and it was fixed right away.

Yeah. I ended up burning myself up on flower watch - when I started waking myself up every 2 hours to go fertilize, I decided I needed to quit
