Oh come on fion ;) the last thign that matters for community friendliness for a game in beta is a hosted forum (especially given the number of fan site's with forums war has)

Though it does make it hard for trolls, so many different boards to troll, and they can't even claim that mythci is deleting their threads because they don't want anythign negative to be said of war =p

Come on, what is the difference between no official forums and forums where only subscribers are allowed to post?  No forums is isn't unheard.  Matter of fact, I would rather see no forums than forum policing like at Turbine and SoE.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

oh noes! You know if people are still playing DAoC and enjoying it without any official forums, then why add one for WaR. Ever hear the saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it?"

    Bollocks!

I'll continue to harass $OE and moan about SWG-NGE and request classic pre-nge servers any oportunity I get. (Well atleast Im honest)

But on topic, I think its a good idea to delay the game if you think it isn't at the stage you guys are happy with or you have great ideas you want to build on. I think in recent times many companies have learned that if you release when the game really isn't ready, you will probably never fully recover from it.

So good on you guys for delaying and keep up the good work. Im looking forward to giving WAR a go when its ready.

Looks great so far. I say looks great because I can't say plays great because I aint in beta. Grrr!

Delays are good if they aren't financial, which then lead to the shelving of a product.

  • TyfreakyTyfreaky Member Posts: 239

    *Sigh*

I'm suddenly having deja vu again... I swear the exact same things were said every time Blizzard had a delay for WoW or the Burning Crusade.. and yet both games still got blasted by some for "coming out to soon"

And lest we forget.. Vanguard came out 'early' hoping to be able to rely on community support and the good graces of the gaming public to give them time to fix the issues they had....

And we all know how that turned out..

If War comes out on time but without the necessary polish, it will probably fail, but they push the game back to make sure its a good game and the complaints start pouring in...

You can't have your cake and eat it too..

Do you want the worlds tastiest cake? Or do you want it when you want it? Because you can't have both.

The mention of the special rules server almost sounds like they are planning on expanded pvp... ie FFA pvp, or maybe RvR without any safe zones (including pve areas). Will be interesting to see the details when they release them.

This guys got the right idea, more time to enjoy PoTBS =D

I'm fine with it.  I've been following WAR closely, but the more and more I think about it...I'm not really looking for a quest based, guided game.  I really want a sandbox game.  There just isn't any good ones yet or in the near future so I was planning on playing WAR till then.  So I'm actually using WAR as my game to keep me busy till a good sandbox style game releases.  But until WAR, well I'm sticking to console gaming till then.

Actually i am rather for the postponement myself, as long as what they have said is there improving the game, polishing it up, adding stuff that has come back from the beta testers that they have had.

I havent heard any bad reports from those lucky sods yet (except that the game looks too much like warcraft) but plays differantly, and so far untouchable for its PvP side. (which is being improved even further).

I for one am eager to try this game in beta, but may be the last game i pre-order (if it blows i will probably never pre-order another mmo again). Been burned a few times (twice by Sony). which is why i aint pre-ordering potbs. I'll try to get into an open beta for that before release, if not its gonna be a wait of 2-3 mths (should get decentish reports about the game by this time), danger is WAR will be on the horizon of release by then.

LOL VG, not a chance in hell, that game blew it in its 1st 2 months of release. First impressions stuck and count bigtime, stayed for teh 2nd month but the game just got worse and worse, supposedly patch fix's came but more offen than not broke things and didnt really fix stuff (were not tested at all for proper fixtures).

After that i gave up and left. Never been back but i can immagine nothings changed with it anyways, so have gone back to warcraft (for now). since teh 2 beta's i was lucky to get in on have ended (in 1 way or another).

Tabula Rasa - something was missing from this game to keep me remotely interested, i found it boring and repetative, however this game could quite possibly cater towards teh FPS players out there.

Gods and Heroes - Well, trying to connect was a big issue, when you did the look of it wasnt very impressive. Still beta and things change alot, the big problem i saw with the game was zoning and comming back to a completly empty world (bug), these and many other issue's would have postponed the game longer than they would have liked, also no pvp (that is a major factor thesedays) would have ended up costing more to fix. they made the right decision to postpone it (indefinately). Though they went the wrong way about it.

So now i wait to find a new beta, or release of a game that will create that big time playability (that even wow has lost). Why companies try to be clever and kill their own game with expansion release's i don't know, they should widen it but not kill previous content.

I'm glad that War is gonner take a few more months as this gives me time to save up enough dosh so when it does come out i can take 6 months off work to play it.  Like i did with WoW but i ended up taking 2 & half years off untill my missis kicked me out the house, at least this time round i wont have her to worry about, saying that keeping the landlady sweet aint gonner be much fun ( right minger ) but a mans gotto do what a mans gotto do in the name of WAR .......

Im not an "expert" in all this things but, from my experience, this happens :) if this will make WaR a better game, I preffer to wait before (like atari did with nwn2) get an unfinished game.

I know i blasted a ton of AOC fanboies over the aoc delay and for good reason, not over the fact that war would not or that AOC did it, but WHY they did it.

For like 5 months pervious it was obvious that AOC combat was sucking , all the fan boys said NO WAY !!! . Well it was , and the dev.s admited this with their release over the reasons for the deelay.

Now about 1 month ago on these forums i said WAR would need a delay or they would have to release the game (elves more so) very unpolished (VERY) . My reasoning was that they had just PUT THEM IN THE GAME. and 4-6 months is not enough time to get all of the class , zones, items, quests, and then balence and check all of that for a entire side. WAr fanboies bashed me, it just gonna happen.

Most Develpments with games you can see comign liek 1-3 months in advanced, if not more, so why do so many people have a hard time seeing them coming?

Well here is my hypothesis over why some people can see whats obviously going to happen.

    1) The don't want to see it. (Cuz they are a fanboy)

    2) They looked at one vid then made up their mind about the game (Cuz they are a fekking idiot)

    3) They do not use logic or rational thinking to form hypotheses. (Just cuz thats who they are, and while this can be a tad bother some, its no biggy becuase thats who they are, Think air head).

The reason i wrote this is to encourge you to not fall into these lines of thought, and maybe if you already are to leave them behind you.

PS: It's funny, when ea bought mythic everyone was screaming doom and that ea will push war out regardless of the state the game is in and it will flop like vanguard. Now war is pushed back for the second time, it appears EA is willing to give mythic more time (and money) to make war a better game and not push it out of the door, which is the opposite of what people claimed EA would do. Yet people still complain? =p

To paint the coirrect picture here, Fion has no clue what he is talkign about .

EA has has massive problems with their MMOs.

A result of this was the concept to buy a studio and let them handle it  (becuase they could not.)

Now at the latest meeting of stock holders (the big ones) Thye talked about what games were releasing and which ones they are happy about. Also this is where WAR was fist pushed back the 2nd time (ie first thing we heard about it). However, at this metting One studio and one studio alone was singled out for doing a superb job. Guess which one it is .... thast right EA Mythic.

EA Now thinks that WAR can over come WoW and they are giving it the time and funding to TRY to do so. All the evidence points to this conclusion.

Now on the restructureing. You do know that they merdged the UO peeps into the Mythic peeps right. Well this means you'll have extra people you don't really need. Also Game companies are A$$ HOL3z , and they fire people they no longer need when making games. (Like atm they need less coders , and concept artists for landscape, i bet a few of these will be going,) However, this may not be the case becuase the layoffs (firings) where EA wide and thus may have barely touched the mythic studio.

Just because you don't know the details does NOT mean someone else doesn't know what they are talking about.

And yea, I can hear EA now -  'hey Mythic, your doing such a great job and we think your game is gonna blow WoW away, so instead of releasing it to do so, were gonna spend another massive chunk of money to delay your game so you can really stick it to Blizzard! Just be sure that when people ask why, not to hint that we're so hugely confident, just say that you've missed some target dates and need more time. They won't ever realize the truth!'

Actually believing that swill has fanboi written all over it.

First of all they have said numerous times, Q2 2008. That is April, May, June. Second of all I never understood why you come here from time to time and spread some of your hate for Mythic all over these forums. I can detect your hidden messages now after reading so many of your posts about WAR. You try to make make yourself sound like your being nice and interested, but I see past your little scheme. I think it's time you have a nap so you can come back in a week with another pointless post about the downfall of WAR. Go on...

LOL  God Bless your dedication man! I'm only taking the first 2-weeks off for the War release heheh.
