For those of you that play WarHammer RPG how would you compare it to Dungeons & Dragons RPG(3.5)? I was told that WAR RPG has a much more detailed combat system but that could be just talk.

I played Warhammer Quest for a few years and thought it was a lot more fun and drew you into the gameworld better than D+D
Are you talking about tabletop? I play 40K and Fantasy, but I had never heard of a Warhammer RPG.

yes hes referring to Warhammer Quest a tabletop game much like D+D .. Maybe hard to find now i still have the full set may dig it out .. It is an awesome game..
Whatever the WarHammer RPG is called. Has books and miniatures and rules similar to D & D.
Comparing those two is what I was referring to.

There are a few RPG style games of Warhammer. There is Hero/Warhammer Quest which was a board game style dungeon hack and slash. There were various careers you could have (heroes quest was not as open ended as Warhammer quest, but it was the basis for what made Warhammer Quest as good as it was), these clases ranged from classic Barbarian, dwarf, elf, and wizard to halfling cook, dwarven trollslayer, Assassin, High Elf Ranger, Brettonian Knight, ect.
Combat in WHQ was pretty straight forward and usually easily resolved, but always pretty action packed. Character advancement wasn't really there in the RPG setting, players only really gained stats in wounds, plus whatever new gear and assets they bought along they way, most other stats were pretty set in stone.
Then there was also a full fledged Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying game. Here a couple years ago this was re-released by another publisher ( http://www.blackindustries.com/ ). The career system in WFRP was pretty sturdy and advancement was half the fun. They had jobs from Rat-trapper, Bum, and other low ranking jobs, and players could eventually advance from those jobs up to knighthood, Priesthood, assassins, ect.
The combat was pretty involved in the fact that most of the to-hit rolls were based on a d100 set(this was the old school version, I am not so sure about the remake though), and you figured out exactly which body part was hit by reversing the numbers of the D100, so if you rolled a 57, you would hit whatever body part was associated with number 75.
Another aspect I haven't really seen used much is critcal *failures*. It was possible for your character to mess up so badly doing something that they manage to impale their own foot, sever off a limb, ect.
It's a pretty interesting system, and probably more fun then D&D 3.X. Best bet is to take a look
I think they still use the 100% dice for most of combat and skill rolls in the newst edition of the game.
Here you can download the demo game for the Warhammer 40K coming out next year, and you use D100 for most skill tests.
I have played the Warhammer RPG and found it alot more exciting and flexible than D&D even better than the 3.5e. There is so many angles and adventures you can create, go on and such. To me, it is more roleplaying than D&D and I have played both RPGs for years now.
And yes, the combat system is much more detailed and has a ton of variety to it. It doesn't suck to be a wizard at early levels
I would agree that it is alot more detailed and havs a very great combat system and i would say alot more fun than the original d+d
your immersion in dnd, adnd, dnd3.0, 3.5, war quest, or any other single tabletop mmo is not a factor of the game
Its purely a factor of your storyteller/gm/dm, and your ability as a roleplayer.
The rulesets merely outline suggested rules for certain things such as skills and combat...
they are only suggestions as is stated in the books and should be adjusted to your playstyle. The specific rules you choose to use, the storyline, and everything about the game is up to you and your gm's decision.
Well, combat in dnd is only rated as flat b/c people suck at the game. There is so much you can do in dnd combat...such as ANYTHING its just up to you as to how involved you want to be. Want to jump over them, tumble, throw a chair, then tackle them and choke em out....its possible.
and wizards in low level dnd dont suck...its an rpg learn to role play, and learn to use support skills such as sleep... you can put entire groups to sleep with one spell and dispatch them without rolls.
I grew up playing D&D. played right up to 3.5. still a great game but I've always found it to be a hack and slash. more concerned with body count than anything else.
WHFRP was less concerned with body count (tho there was no lack of that) and more concerned with advancing the story line. experience is awarded not for body count but for story line achievements (which is some instances is body count)
don't get me wrong. D&D will always be a classic. but I've enjoyed warhammer more than any other rpg for some time. In fact i'm greatly looking forward to the 40k rpg thats coming out
Crozius and bolter pistol...nuff said.
We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.
I'm not saying dnd is better b/c honestly i dont think one is better than the other, its just how you choose to use what rulesets to benefit you
I would also like to note that the rulesets for these are indeed only suggestions and that you should take the time to modify the game in any manner you find most enjoyable and acceptable instead of just saying "its too restricted to body count or combat"
Ill be the first to admit that i absolutely dont care for the DnD system, WFRPG's game system is easier but better. Having said that, its not the rules that sets DnD and warhammer apart, but the world it self. Warhammer have a much bigger appeal to me than any of the DnD worlds, its feels more alive, if i can put it that way
u talking bout the table top??
Ok i have Played Warhammer the roleplaying game and i must say it deffinitly fits the bill if you're looking for immersion.
Dont' take me as a DnD hater though i have over 2grand worth of dnd crap so i deffinitly enjoyed it. Problem i alwasy found with dnd (3.5 specifically) was the CRAZY ease to power game and the fact that they fight to release content every month which ends up for making some CRAZY stuff no one would ever actually want in a game *Cough* book of the nine swoards *cough*
From my experience warhammer has a VERY nice set of Lore. meaning it put it down for you when it comes to world timeline maps characters and a nice little backround to whats going on in the world. Also the classes were CRAZY about 100 careers in the first book alone you could essentially do whatever you wanted RP wise (alot of classes were very similar but all had different RP potential)
Combat was also more... set in stone if you will than DND was. If you've played tabletop warhammer you know that combat is combat the books rules are the books rules. Theres not 500 different books that end up contradicting themselves over and over. In dnd one books says the sky is blue the other says the sky is purple and then a GM player argument accurs. I notices while playing warhammer there was alot LESS players arguing with rules it all seemed more defined and layed out in terms of combat.
anyway... OVERALL i felt warhammer was a great system and lended for ALOT easier to actual ROLE playing Vs. ROLL playing. Don't get me wrong dnd is fun but after 15 years of dnd i'm kinda tired of some of the exploits. If you like the lore it's deffinitly worth picking up the Players guide.
And about the guy who stated that you could get exp from roleplaying in dnd... YEA YOU CAN and as a DM i dole it out as much as possible but the problem with DnD is and always will be... when players can just make a character who can punch god and laugh without breaking a sweat. they tend to always seek that route. I've even tried playing with different groups of players different dm's everything and at least 50% of the group always just hacks and slashes there way through problems and honestly if some players do it it hurts the players that wanna RP. For instance if i make a wizard who has tons of diplomacy skills and scrying abilities and spells which lend to rping and problem solving. I'm basically useless to the team when the other 4 guys run into every battle they see... i'm end up left with a watered down character and i don't feel a part of the adventure.
The only solution i've ever found to this problem was different systems... even d20 modern you can't hack and slash... the rules allow it yes but it's just so much easier to feel a part of the world... Just like Warhammer IMO. The world is more ALIVE you want to roleplay...
