The interesting thing is that even though I know it has problems, I still keep playing. This is one frigging addictive game.
Same here. The bugs, my problems with subscription (which I now don't even want anymore, but they have my credit card number, and that's scary) and my personal fight with a non-existing customer support...I'm still playing. Any other game would have ended up in the dust bin days ago.
I just laughed a lot about that review. It brightened up my day.

"Billing adventure puzzle! Sometimes we charge you $9.99 every month, and sometimes we charge you $9.99 every single day. Keep a close eye on your credit card activity and enjoy this extra layer of gameplay. The fun doesn't stop when you turn off the game or when it crashes you to your desktop!"
Best part of the whole review. I really feel sorry for these first subscribers, they're really being kicked in the gonads without any mercy.
But like the others here, I really love the game even though I'm aware of its many bugs. It's a little odd.
I just got my december issue of Pc Gamer, and they scored it at 89%. I have not had any of the problems others are complaining about, the only complaints I do have, is the long load times, and the fact that a paying sub doesn't offer much yet (hence the reason i'm playing free at the moment). The pc gamer review was quite accurate, and does mention some issues they had like ctds, and long loading screens. It was a fair and accurate review. I'm sick of people posting reviews from hole-in-the-wall sites, that I or any of my friends have never heard of. No, this game is not the best thing since sliced bread, but it is a great game that is fast-paced, fun, and addictive. Neither is this game the piece of trash that the naysayers are trying to make it out to be. If this kind of game isn't your cup of tea, I unserstand, as I would never be caught dead playing say, Maple Story or something of that ilk, but a lot of other people play and enjoy that game despite my personal dislike of it. And though I don't like it, instead of trashing it and trying to convince those who like it, that it sucks, I just don't play it. In short, I believe HGL is a good game, and can only get better with time.

That would be me. I wasn't one of the first, but I subscribed last Sunday. Still nothing. Not that it matters anymore. Don't want the subscription anymore, if it's such a huge hassle. And indeed. I'm checking my credit card every single day to make sure they didn't go haywire on it. Waiting to get my credit card out of their wacky system now, so I can get rid of the 'Billing adventure puzzle' for good. Had a good laugh about it though, because I've never seen such absurd and bizar system and customer service.

Wow! Im bloody glad I gave this a miss. I actually picked it up in the shop and considered it but a little voice in the back of my mind said "read up on it first"
Well done little voice.
I used to visit this site a lot however in recent years it has become the home of negative forum posts, illogical opinions and tantrums so I visit less often.
Played or Beta'd: UO / DAOC / Horizons / EQ2 / DDO / EVE / Archlord / PirateKingsOnline / Tabula Rasa / LOTRO / AOC / Champions / Darkfall / Mortal Online / DCUO / Rift / STO / SWTOR / TSW

See..that's the thing with listening to all the forum flames. Now a days, people are so critical. If you really pay attention to reviews, many of them do say that the problem is with bugs, not the gameplay.
I usually research every buy before plopping down the money. If I had done the same for this game, I would have missed out on hundreds of hours of very enjoyable gameplay that suits me perfectly. Luckily, I was in beta, so I knew exactly what to expect.
I got this game and I think the box price is all the money I'm willing to give Flagship Studios. On it's own, when all the bugs get worked out and their bandwidth is fixed it will be like Diablo 2 except with guns and in the near future. I'll play it when this is all ironed out and get my moneys worth but I won't subscribe. I see no reason to now and even when they start releasing extra content. I think I'm just used to the mmo style of game play and I personally don't consider this game to belong to the genre known as MMORPG.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Regardless of ones opinion of the game, this has to be the best humored take on the whole HG:L release state at the moment.
pretty good summary unfortunately...

Even with that review being spot on. (I would say not over done at all) The game is still fun to play.
