PoTBS Vs EVE

CleffyIICleffyII Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 3,440

Finally, something that matches pretty closely to EVE to make this poll even possible.

Personally, I like PoTBS because of its combat system; Customizable Avatars & free roaming cities; Boarding parties, and hand to hand fights.  In EVE I like the graphics, and the visual representation of manufacturing stuff.

While PotBS will have a great combat system, it will not have near the depth of customization that EVE has.  Anyone looking for EVE based in naval warfare is going to be disappointed.  Anyone looking for something new with EVE-like qualities.. well, you might be happier then.

I think I will prefer POTBS.  I recently tried EVE's 14 day trial.  It was ok, it seemed like it had a huge world, lots of options etc. but I really miss seeing my character instead of a spaceship.

Still waiting for a game like Pre CU SWG...

very few people will leave EvE for any specific game.  this game has achievement entrapment everywhere, they probably even choose the name based on EvE being part of achieve and looks nice by itself.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

i played PoTBS beta for a while , i must say it was ammusing to play i would not play it for a main game , hell i play eve online and by play i mean sit on my character thats an 03 and log on and get more skill points training and log back off thats my eve online experience for the last year and a half while all mmo's suck , WoW sucks but cause so many played it , it was fun (was alot more fun before the BG's and honor points ) but shit changes and they take away the fun part of it

Although POTBS looks like a good game Id have to stick with EVE do to the fact that I'm refusing to play any more fantasy games. Ill only do modern and future MMO's.

PS: I consider past MMO's to be fantasy. Thats my opinion

Not a big fan of the world resetting so I chose eve.

PotBS is pretty nice and brings some different features to the mmo world,no more ELFS and WoWish style of play... wich is refreshing

-the pvp is more meaningfull than the curent mmo market but not as meaningfull as EVE's pvp

-ship crafting requires several people to work togheter to produce a ship (no solo player can produce ships)

-it has both avatar combat and ship combat and ship avatar combat... tho they nerfed ship boarding alot (I was in closed beta and back then boarding was much more fun)

Those are the strong points about PotBS,problems are: semi-sandbox,you still are forced to walk on a linear path of quests, yes the lvls only affect how many skills you have and what ships you can use but those skills matter alot.

Comparing PotBS to EVE is not advised since PotBS only has afew small similarities to EVE.And it isnt a EVE killer, expecialy with Rev3 around the corner and future promises of being able to have char avatars walk around in stations.

Overall PotBS is a great game, worth it if you are bored of all the WoWish games on the market also if you are looking for PVP that is more meaningfull.

Though I like both games, playing PotBS when it releases is an investment for the future if you're looking for an EVE-type game. EVE has been around for a while and, as a result, has a much richer gaming experience. However, given time, PotBS could be an excellent contender--much depends (as it did for EVE when EVE launched) on the devs and the choices they make for the game after it releases.

Why do I have to choose one OR the other? Yes, they both have ship to ship combat....and thats about it.....but then its no were even close to the same kind of ships and how they fight. Sorry mate. Its a Daft poll. I get were you are trying to go with it, but just because they both have ships, doesn't make em a good match.

Like I said, I play EVE on occasion, and I'll be playing PotBS on occasion. Ones in space , the others in the Caribbean.

If i had to choose, id go with Eve. Epic politics, tales of great Alliances (ascn, d2 etc.). The story of the world..its just great.

But, i dont have to choose, i can play both. And thats what i probably will.. ;)

if yer trying to compare games that match or are like eve i would go with eve and saga of ryzom, in fact if eve ever had a ground expansion i would hope it would be what ryzom is like, open skill system total player market, learn anything do anything.

potbs feels sooo low budget with all the places lacking any stmosphere and feeling really geenric. The actual combat system for on foot is very poor too and i don't understand why i can't sail upto cities, why i have zone because that kills the immersion right there.

I think trying out PoTBS would be a good choice to try first. When/if that fails, head to EvE

I am seeking another game that will suppliment EVE.  Sometimes I want to see rolling hills with green grass and the odd tree.  Right now Tabula Rasa is hitting a fun spot and is a great release from EVE.  However I am hoping that PotBS is not as complicated as EVE so I can jump in and have some fun and get out.  If you have 30 minutes TR is worth playing and I hope PotBS has a similar style.  If I was forced to choose then EVE by a long shot due to it being worked on for more than 3 years post launch and walking just around the corner.

    Is the PotBS NDA gone?

One is in beta still and the other is a mature release. Not sure if it is a fair comparison.

  • PraetorianiPraetoriani Member Posts: 1,147

    I'll be playing both!

  • OzmodanOzmodan Member EpicPosts: 9,726

Another exercise in futility.  How can you compare something that actually exists with something that might exist.  Until it is published and people have actually had a chance to play POTBS, this poll is just another silly nonsensical survey.

PoTBS does look great but I think I'll stick with eve. I enjoy skilling up instead of leveling. Plus EVE has a huge world and I enjoy the crafting. It will even be better when they add walking inside your ship and station. ( I know it may be a while before that happens )

  • fervorfervor Member Posts: 145

NDA is still active for PoTBS.  Stop talking about it.  Far too many people are talking about so casually as if it were already released.

According to the NDA, you're not even allowed to say you are a tester, much less talking about the game itself.

  • ColdmeatColdmeat Member UncommonPosts: 3,408

I'm sure there's plenty of people that played in the stress test. And really, how would NDA be enforced on them? Take them to court? Definitely worth the $$.

Anyway, I was previously interested in PotBS. Now? Not so much, anymore. More I can't say, so as to avoid making anyone

The point isn't that you'll get caught.  The point is that it's not ethical to sign an agreement and break it.

Do you steal things whenever you can if you doubt you'll get caught?  If other people steal, do you steal too?

There is a reason for NDA's.  Give a new company who is trying something different a chance to make something good and successful.

Even though I haven't tried PoTBS, I did notice it on the station pass list when i went to cancel EQ2. Based on seeing it in there I will not be playing it. I'd rather not give any more of my  money to SOE.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

POTBS Seems great and im also an Eve veteran but then again while i am a Eve veteran im also a SWG Veteran i have really bad memorys of the Customer support and developers of SOE while CCP is the most innovative company with the best customer support ive ever had the please to play with.

I will definatley try POTBS since i am at the level in Eve where skills take up to two months to complete i can just pay for 1 month pick the skill and play POTBS in the meantime if i get bored, even if my sub runs out before the skill is finished it still keeps ticking so i can save money that way and try POTBS :)

But as i said i will probably not give SOE many chances to proove that they have changed this time due to the awful failure with SWG.

^Except that PotBS wasn't developed by SOE.  In fact, they had -nothing-, absolutely zero to do with what went in the game.  They were picked up towards the end of production in order to put the game on shelves, and to handle billing.  I wish people would stop thinking SOE has anything to do with the game other than that.

FLS stated -way- before SOE became a part of the deal that they had more than enough money to make it to release and beyond, and that they were a completely self funded company.  So they will not have issues with SOE trying to call the shots because they are running out of money and need help to get out of a hole.

Oh this is an easy poll. Ill vote for EvE as its the only one thats out. Also EvE has been out for years and had basically grown so much since it was released.

Its also Sci-Fi which i am a fan off.

Its a sandbox and not linear level like PoTBS.

It has a HUGE range of equipting options for your ships.

It has over 500 ships i think [never counted them], all with a purpose not just for numbers.

Its market is second to none.

Played plenty of MMO's this is the first one im trully addicted too.

I love my corp im in its filled with great guys and girls.

    Great  mature community overall.
