Truth about Archlord

PsychoPigeonPsychoPigeon Member UncommonPosts: 565

This is a quote from my friend who's played this game since beta along side me and it pretty much sums up the state of the game:

The game is not worthwhile trying other than on a casual basis. It is so riddled with bugs it's not funny. Practically no support from Codemasters, no patches to fix things, any patches the game has had have made things worse. We as a guild are still waiting for the promised real life Archlord Armour for being the first ever Archlord, just as a competition winner from over a year ago is still waiting for his promised custom PC case for winning the "name the servers" competition. No response from Codemasters on any of these issues whatsoever.

The servers are borked, with unplayable lag for most, double xp weekends are an absolute nightmare with the servers being unable to cope with a few hundred extra players. Items randomly disappear from your character/inventory. Chantra items (paid for in real $$'s) disappear and become stuck/unusable, most people are not being compensated for them.

Seiges are a joke. The servers usually crash 10mins before a seige then 90% of the people supposed to be taking part cannot get logged back in because the login server also messes up.

In short, avoid this game at all costs unless you are willing to play a game that shouldn't even be out of beta, never mind have been retail for over a year.

It's one lie after another with Code Masters, they have yet to actually listen to us and fix the issues which plague this game instead of fixing nothing.

    I totally agree.

I know kabal from the game we almost started together and i have the exact same opinion.

I think every player that has played the game a lots has the same opinion.

As i have said to an other post the game can be very good at the beggining but as time passed and you realise the unlimited bugs and problems and money you need to spend you turn to hate this game.

    this game is that bad?

  • VadenVaden Member UncommonPosts: 145

The game is good but it has some death bugs.. mostly the game crash(es) issues. The next is dealing with overgaming players.. mostly those that "hate" or dont want to share a leveling area... not to be of an issue though, most people pretty adult about leveling

Another issue is the growing Gold Seller community and spam bots.. less they fixed those.. which i doubt. There doesnt seem to be a built in or 3rd party anti-hacking software so thats really bad.

Games I've Played: SilkRoad, Flyff, NeoCron, PlanetSide, Rapplez, UpshiftRacer, Drift City, TB, Kwonho, ArchLord, AoA, Exteel, WolfTeam, Shaiyan, WoKF, FFXIV, STO, KoTR, ESO, Defiance, Mabinogi

However [topic derailment] does that mean I could run Archlord in Linux with Cedega or WINE? [makes plans to test this] Those third-party "security" apps are the reason it's impossible to run any of the Asian MMO's in Linux.

All in all what I have just read is a sad account of a game that looks and plays pretty well at least at first take. I played the game yesterday for the first time and leveled to level 8. I thought the game was fun although I didn't completely understand the Chantra(sp??) shop until now. Real money for game items??? That seems somehow tacky, however if you play the game for free maybe it is fair so to reimburse the coding team for their time and effort. I probably will not be playing the game anymore after reading the above posts. I will go back to WoW or find something else. I am bored with WoW so have tried several of the betas. I like fantasy based games (no sci-fi for me).  Thanks for the informative posts and I wish all well and have a happy holidays!

Archlord is a loser...as are most free games because you stand a huge chance of getting hacked in these games.  There is no safety net to prevent hacking and if your system does not have good enough security..you will surely get hacked.  There is also the giant problem of the farmers...gold sellers and griefers all over making the game a pain in the arse to play.  The "game" itself is good...just not playable as a free thingy.  I now prefer to spend money each month join a game that I know will not have hackers. Even though I have awesome security... it still makes me upset.

IMHO the idea of a free game is rediclous anyway since in order to play well...you really need to spend money and in "free games" you will spend lots more then if you are paying a monthly fee.

    My opinions :).

archlord on the eu side is good tho.

no lag to mention, gold sellers are a nuisance tho since ignore lists dont work. servers are reasonably populated. people behave pretty well.

I agree with most of these people here, there is alot of bugs, there is alot of spam bots. I see at least two everytime i play with names like "jhykji" and the ignore feature doesnt work against these "Shout" msgs. I still like this game, will i ever use my real money to buy anything from archlord or codemasters? NO! I hope codemasters wake up and don't act like k2 networks... they only care about the money.

Wow all this hate for a free game.

Well Codemasters finally got off there asses after a exploit caused the in game economy to crash.  They have banned over 1000 acounts in the last few days  mostly RMT but also hakers and PLs.

In true the game mech is good and the art is not bad.  It is much better with out these RMT now.

I like the easy way they make parties and there are lots of cool ppl.  If you like PvP you shuld give it a try there is pretty regular orgnised and not so organized in game all the time.

Me Im just a PvE with a few friends in low places

    - My take.  They are slowly building the game as they go.  Since they dont have the money of a WoW or LOTR.   If you got no money to spend on a game or a second game.... it is not bad.

Oh look me up in game on weekends - Human Knight - Katim -

    the real truth is.

back in open beta of the game people like myself reported all the bugs and exploits, and codemasters did nothing, then released it as a p2p game, aafter not getting enough people subscribing they made it b2p.

and announced the EP2 coming soon, almost a year later we got ep2.

none of the bugs from the original beta got fixed, and neither did any from the ep2 beta.

shortly after they messed the game up by limiting the amount of mobs you could grind and also the lvls you copuld grind on, weher as before i was pulling 30 + lvl 75s at lvl 70, now you can pull 15 and lose exp because the mobs are higher lvl.

After many accounts were hacked, items going missing, in game currency going missing, and even codemasters deleting items. they decided to make the game free to play, but you still need to buy credits from codemasters to be able to really have any chance of being up with the big guns.

Then Codemasters fall out with their GM company and have to do it themselves.

If you red the archlord forum you will see its full of complaint after complaint about the poor service, the lack of support and the false promises.

The actual ARCHLORD title is gimp, and once dead loses the title, so hes usually found loitering in town and safe zones.

as for the accounts being banned, most of the people had never done a thing wrong, while in alot of the major guilds there are people who openly admitted to botting, hacking and power leveling and codemaster do nothing to them.

There is no security in the game, you can run bots, hack, cheat and codemasters do nothing.

its fun if you have never played an mmo before and your a kid who cant afford to play a well supported game, but honestly there are alot of other better free to play games out there.

The only real good thing about archlord is the graphics.

So if you want to play a free (but you have to but credits), bugged, hackable, un secure laggy game then this is for you. If you want to play a game which is none of the above, take your pick from the 100s of other ones out there that are better.

That about sums it up.  but I would add that the casual PVP and player parties adds to this game.  It is easier to meet people and kill people than in Guild Wars.

yet you still play the game and troll the forums flaming everyone all day, if you really feel this way about the game then STOP playing it yourself instead of telling others to stop while you still play.

But I do agree the game plain Sucks at this point, hence why I stopped playing.

Are you joking?  I guess you haven't played Lineage 2 which has tons and tons of farmers and bots and hackers.  Even WOW has bots and such.  I don't think there is a P2P game out there I've played that doesn't have bots and hackers in it.  Just because a game is pay doesn't mean its free of hackers and bots, pkers and gold farmers.  If you want a game that has no cheaters then you have to get in on it early on before hackers make the bot programs and such otherwise your stuck.  Free or not there people out there that just can't help but cheat and screw things up for everyone who wants to actually play the game.

Archlord does have its problems though, I admit that.  They brought it out to early and with tons of bugs so people didn't buy it and now that its free people play but if they think its worth their while to fix it they will, if not then they'll loose all their players and they'll take the game down.

Very true. Hackers and bots are in every mmo, just more so in some than others. Most of the free ones are the most  heavily plagued by bots though, mostly because they are free and you can get multiple accounts. Wow is pretty bad, simply because of the sheer immense size of the subscriber base that gold sellers have to market their wares to . Not much of a bot problem in wow mind you, though I'm sure there are some, but gold farmers and griefing is a big problem.

  • draguleadragulea Member Posts: 249

Gold farmers and bots can be seen in every single MMO; it's just a matter of time before they appear in new games too. And they're everywhere, because all games have lazy ass individuals that prefer to buy stuff, instead of getting it through legit ways. So it really doesn't matter if the game is F2P or P2P, in both cases there are paying "customers". Now IMO the only ppl that advertise this "P2P are better because they're bug and problems free" are the ones payed to advertise the P2P game system (which is currently taking a huge blow from all these item shop based games); any honest uninterested player knows the truth: playing a P2P game does not guarantee a botter free environment; and in every single MMO the things that can offer you the upper hand in the game are sold for good (and often real) money. You might get more stable servers, but even that is not guaranteed 100%, so...

I totally agree with you.  I could never cheat on a game because where would be the fun in that.  I do get bored of MMO's quickly because every one is the same in game play.  Now one thing I will say about P2P is that if there is any revolutionary game play it will probably come from a P2P company first because they have the 10's of millions of dollars to take a chance on a game.  Conan, War, Stargate Worlds and Star Trek online will hopefully be those revolutionary games.  If any of these games have really different type of combat and different ways of play then these ideas will trickle down into F2P in the next set of F2P games in a couple years or so.  Even games like APB and Huxley sound like they may have some possibility.  We'll just have to see.  One time this isn't true is with Voyage Century which I think is a lot like Pirates of the Burning see...and Voyage Century is F2P.  Sure there may be some differences here and there but for the most part they seem the same.  BUT then again Voyage Century is just a F2P version of Bounty Bay which is a P2P game.

Yeah. Wish that ignore feature worked. Spam bots wouldnt be so bad then. Some kind of anti-bot/hack system as well NEEDS to be added but yea... all in all.. i think its mostly greed that fuels Codemaster.. the game its self is fine(overall) dont get it twisted...

you can run a few quest that give wonderful rewards and xp, you can PvP in a number of places, includding arenas. Last i checked it use to crash at random when you talked to a NPC. I dont know...

The game is still very much playable and fun but it has some pretty annoying stuff in it as well that if you just cant look over at times... it'll probably get to you.

    Pros:

Outside of that, shout is area based so you probably wont see spam-bot messages everywhere, i've never crashed while leveling and the crafting skills and game play is fun... xp at higher levels is a bit troubling but most games are. so meh

I have played ArchLord from beta and I must admit that I really liked the game from the start. I have long since stopped playing due to the game having me grind too much. Also the XP penulty really turned me away as well. I don't really enjoy dying once just to know that a few hundred monster kills went to nothing.

On the technical side, I never seen any problems. Sometimes I was not able to login, but I was never kicked off or lagged too bad. Once I remember there was an issue that nobody could walk but since then it has been resolved. I do think that the game should have stayed in beta for a little longer.

From my stand point, the game seems alright. Its just not my cup of tea.

I say this game is pretty decent for a totally free game. Ive only been playin a few days though. Ive crashed once but no biggie nothing game breaking.

I dont seem to grindy to me, but im used to playing FFXI where you sit in the same spot for hours killin shit in a party bullshiting away. The graphics are decent but not alot of resolution options. For free its not bad.

Gold sellers and bots you will find in any game even on FFXI, WoW and so many other games I have played they were there so that is just something u can never get rid of.
