Here is what I'm talking about. In WoW I have been playing from bata. A friend wanted to hang out with me that I meet in Guild Wars. After taking all the time to get him to 70. My guild wont let him in cuz his gear is not up to par. But the reason he started WoW was because I tried playing Guild Wars. Ya you only have to get to lv 20.
But you need tuns of gold/plat to get the gear for you and your heroes. So I am looking at months of farming or pay for the gold just to get ban for it. Ya that's why I play. To Form FREAKING GOLD!!!!!!! It's just not fun and I am so sick of farming and not playing.
So lets do EQ2.... That's just WoW with even MORE of a grind!!!! I want a game not a job!

that is pretty typical of the gaming world right now...
it is a side effect of the level concept, where levels determine where you can go, what you can do and who you can hang around with.
Of the games you mentioned, EQ2 is probably the easiest to get 'decent' end game gear and such. You can get some pretty good gear though simply grouping which allows you to get into the raiding scene. Plus with the mentor system, you can pretty much group with anyone, if you are willing to do it.
Not sure about asheron's call, but it used to be pretty easy to level in and gearing up was never much of an issue, but it's been some time since I played it.
If you are into PvP, Shadowbane might be a good choice (and it is free). Super easy to level and the end game has alot of potential to be fun (sieges), but it suffers from alot of jackasses, so be warned and that is one of the reasons I no longer play it.
You might look into DnD online, though the reviews I've heard on it were mixed, so you might want to find some people who currently play it and find out what it is like now.
Same thing with LotRO, I've known alot of people to like it as well, so it might be a good choice. Though from what i understand, there are no raids, so keep that in mind if that is an aspect of gaming you enjoy.
I am only 30 and it's takes forever to get your trade skills and lv up. I have Lotro also. I think I am just sick of putting all the time in a game just for realy nothing. And at the end of the day, do you sill you played a game or did a job.
I guess that I never really found EQ2 a grind. Though, I've found that tradeskills are mostly worthless... A few good ones, but most of them aren't worth the effort (which isn't much).
Now, the new expansion, that is a different story... it is solid grind... quest grind. I've done close to 150 quests since the expansion came out and its been less than 4 levels worth... But they made it so a good dungeon crawl doesn't give the xp that questing does
As for EQ2, find a good guild and get groups and hit those dungeons. Also, around 35, there are some decent quests lines in the Feerrot, that will make the time go by faster.
But in the end, it comes down to what you are looking to get out of a game really. I find what I want in EQ2, others won't
I think the difference between EQ2 and WoW is, in EQ2 the grind is front loaded. Leveling is the grind, but gear comes pretty naturally (especially in groups) and with EoF, you can get gear nearly as good as you can from KoS raiding with 6 man groups (CoV, OoB, Unrest, MMC, Kaladim and CMM all have set armor drops).
All MMORPG's are letdowns these days...
Try Ultima Online, you can jump in with a new character, play with someone who has been playing for 10 years (people have been playing that long). Alot of content to be found, not as good as it was pre uo:r days but its still a great game... you won't find yourself grinding or spending months getting to a "level" you can do stuff at.
It sounds like your guild is to far into end game progression to take a 'green' 70 on a raid? Any of the games you named can be started years after launch and play end game raiding when you hit max level. Maybe not with a guild that has been doing it for a long time, but there is always a guild that can use another person on a raid somewhere.
Try going on a few organized PuG raids with your friend, they really arn't bad and you meet some great people. Some classes like DPS are easy to gear up and put up respectable numbers. Healers and tanks are much harder, with emphasis on tank classes.
Hope that helps?
Couldnt have said that better myself..so I quoted you.
There are always going to be some classes that aren't heavily wanted on the raid scene. You need a limited number of tanks on a raid. So, if you play EQ2 with an intent on raiding, pick your class with that in mind.
I am a strong advocate of DDO because it opposes many of the MMO trends although I no longer play, but that is not because of the game itself. it is very easy to reach level cap, has by far the best community, incredibly interesting quest lines and raids, is a very non-gear related game due to its awesome combat system and there are a ton of new players these days to learn the game with. Plus it also has a free trial so get into it and see how you like it .
-Plus it also has some PvP which can be fun depending on the server you choose...
I know your pain. I have considered getting back into WoW (I left pre-expansion), but my friends who still play it are so far into end-game raiding that I would never be able to catch up. I don't want to play for several months just so that I *might* be allowed into the guild...and grind away on raids no less.
I told them to let me know if they ever want to start over with new toons, and that I would happily join them. I won't hold my breath though.
Im playing with people who have started a year or more before me, and with newbies who just got into their frist cruiser (financed by corp and me). We do funny things like this (notice all the t1-ships with t1-gear. Caracal, Celestis, Blackbird, all cheap ships with max. 3 weeks of training. required to be effective. Also note the enyo (3-4 weeks), the raptor (effective skillpoints used by me: around 1M. You start with 800k..about a month of training)
And now look how we wiped the floor with our foes, fielding Battleships and Elite-Cruisers..
Kills: 24
Losses: 5
Damage done (ISK): 357.7M
Damage received (ISK): 25M
Efficiency: 93.47%
So, no, you dont have to spend 1 year for skilltraining. Try Eve again please.
Btw. i dont know of any game that does not separate the players through levels, except eve. Thats one of the reasons im playing the game.
Your post was spot on except for this comment. I'm not sure what EVE you are playing, but I've been playing for 6 months now and I've been totally effective in PVP with my corp since the 3rd month.
As to the the one month skills...I've yet to attempt to train even one of those yet.... no reason to unless I want Tech 2 guns on my Sniper BS.....and even then with my learning skills/implants its only going to take 17days...which I've just started training in.

This is the problem. It's not the game, it's your guild's elitist attitude. Welcome to the world of guilds.

Not from what I seen . I started an account 4 months ago. The first month I farmed.
After that I just log in to learn something and split. I started with the learning skills to speed up other skills to learn. Then about a week ago I just stopped the account.
The only drawback to this is of course re -doing quests. If you need/want to do some of the quality quests your friends would have to re-do them with you.But you know what,EQ2 has thousands of quests and the quality ones actually are fun battles. At least SOE showed an effort to help this dilemma out as i am sure this same problem is relevant for thousands of gamers out there.SOE has and prolly will be far more innovative than all the other devs out there ,but of course the jealous flamers will continue to hate SOE.

That's exactly what I was about to say.
Truth be told, WoW is a very good game for leveling/playing with friends.
It's the elitist attitude of most guilds that ruins the game.
It's taken me 3 years to get enough good friends together and all into one server, one guild, etc, to play with, and it's great.
There's no "You must have X amount of DKP to get this" and no "you must be here at this time, do this, and if you fall behind this line you're out of the guild".
We gear up new toons on 5 hour kara runs, do our ZA and 25 mans, and have some fun.
My advice to the OP: Leave them.
Find a casual raiding guild, with some friendly people, who just want to play and have some fun. Too many MMOs are ruined by the elitist "I'm better than you" attitude. Don't let yourself get sucked in by it.
If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem, so to speak.
Look into DAOC. It's dieing .Go CLASSIC SERVERS.You can rvr al level 1 .There are battle grounds for all different levels so you can fight people close to your level only. Some people never leave the bg's.

ya I have an account for EQ2. But just got lost in it all. I also don't have real friends in that game that is willing to take that much time out for me. And to lv up a trade skill is as hard as doing the alt as far as I have seen. I have 2 alts on Mistmoore. one 23 and one 25.
Seriously DDo is the best option. It's THE game without any grind. Yeh you sometimes do the same dungeons, but usually it's on a different difficulty and therefore mobs are different, traps are different, the whole strategy is different. Plus the community is superb, there are no elitists guild, all are open for everyone. And the game is not loot based you can be pretty good for anything if you customize your character greatly. It's all about the build. Better if you check some guides before rolling something.
REALITY CHECK
how long had DDo been out. Is that not like an old game.
Not seen to much about it.
RF Online ! And come to lumen server since its new!
