I briefly played this game in beta and was intrigued. However, I am a hardcore RPer and need that kind of interaction to keep my attention. I'm not sure how well TR lends itself to RP (in its current form) but I think it can be done and it could be fun.
Does anyone know of any RP groups exist in TR?

I am roleplayer , and a member of hardcore roleplaying guild (meaning we are always IC) and it all looks like Shakespearean drama.
Few of us did go to TR. But with intention only to casual RP
There is certain problem with communication in TR , no question about it. I never even managed to stop a player to tell him something It just feels like lot of players running around doing their own buisness.
TR is notch above on LONER-SOLOER gameplay
But i wouldnt give up just yet.
I seen people roleplaying. And I am aswell interested in joining (casual) roleplaying guild
Yeah, what Lobo said.
Some aspects of the game is quite good for roleplaying, but the game design isn't really focused on social interactivity. The FPS-like GUI makes it more difficult to chat than other MMOs, the game is pretty soloable, crafting and trading is lacking, etc.
That would have been me
It took 3 days even me to find how to talk in TR, because did not real the "manual". I have listen little more now about the general talk and sometimes even sayed something. How ever it's just filled with talking about other games or asking questions how to do something or where is something.
Basicly sayed, game is so new for many that they are very busy. Also these are the new way mmorpgs, meant for pure solo players, where we see others, but we don't want to be with them. Talk about mmorpgs been more like massive soloplaying online games. So, I ques TR is MSOG?
MMORPG.COM has worst forum editor ever exists
Depends on where you go really, but you'll find RP on most servers. I will say that Cassie has been the unofficial RP server, with some good choice RP Clans. Oddly though I started up on Pegasus, but was lucky enough to find a good Heavy RP clan. Great bunch of guys, small clan but we stress quality over quantity (and that the game is new).
We're the 42nd IS - partnered with podcaster SITREP. If your into RP and on Pegasus stop on by our website and drop us a line. Even if you don't join us, Captain Furster has been doing a great job at adding a lot of lore information as well as military background info to help better your AFS lingo.

there is lots of room to RP, the storyline is very closely tied to the things that you are actually doing in the game, so it's hard to think of yourself as "out of character" at any given point. i mean, you're a soldier at war with the bane. you're always killing or sabotaging them!
anyhow, check out http://www.tabularasaroleplayers.com/ which is a great community.

Feel free to post a message in the clan adverts to The Free Corp. Either the clan leader or myself will respond.
"Laid back" is S.O.P.
Really, what some of you guys are picking up on is that the game is intense enough that managing to tear yourself out of "combat mode" can be an obstacle at times.
The RP "scene" is just in its infancy still. Should take a bit to mature, but the potential is there.
This is one of the very few posts that i will actually agree with you in a positive way on TR, TR happens to have a strong potential on RP, its one of the very few games out there where most players atually assume their role in game as soldiers and what not. I personaly dont know of any RP groups, but im sure there are many.
I didn't think TR would be a great choice for me because I didn't realize there would be many RPers, but I got myself into a great RP community and it really adds to my enjoyment of the game. The background and atmosphere of the game really seems to promote roleplaying, but right now there aren't many game mechanics that do (like the original SWG did). It's got lots of potential to be a roleplayers mmo and still be action packed and competitive.
I Find myself doing most of the RPing in the heat of battle, when i see snipers coming over a ridge, I will say things to my squad like "11 o clock snipers on the ridge" or something to that effect. Its fun to RP like your actually in the heat of battle, but after the battle is over there is almost no RP unfortunatly because of the LACK of bars, or any other social hubs.
They need the cantina from SWG input that and the game will be flawless.

The game's awesome story and well crafted missions are conducive to roleplaying.
Especially when you're doing a mission with a group that forces you to make a moral choice about which path to take. The other day we had an instanced mission to go retrieve someone who had been captured by the bane because they had access to secrets. Come to find out he's been mutated into a machine, and moves at a snails pace. So the group had to figure out whether we wanted to just kill him, putting him out of his misery and saving ourselves time, or if we wanted to slowly drag him back to the liftoff point so he could be studied. The group then started debating in roleplaying terms what we should do.
Well they do have Taverns in several main bases, which could be used like a cantina. Though right now they are highly underutilized for social events. That can all change though, just takes the dedication of the RP community to host something, possibly weekly to get the word out.
I would like to see more social aspects of the game, built into TR more so than some other things. Such as sitting in chairs, drinking a nice cold one, why not even go as far as what UO did.... implement a card game at the tavern tables such as poker or even a unique Forean game. Would be interesting to see that old aspect come back from UO to TR. This was actually one of my favorite things to do, playing against my clannies in our hall.
But then again, my wants don't outweigh the majority.
They already have bar type areas, there is just no reason to go there.
Thanks a lot for the information. I'm trying to convince my GF to play this with me, but she's not quite sold. I'm currently trying to scrounge up some buddy passes so we can try the game without risk. I, for one, am pretty excited and would like to give it a spin. I know if I can get the GF in, it'd be a done deal.
I meant to ask...
What kind of emotes are in the game? Can you sit in chairs? Are there casual clothes and areas suitable for social events (besides the bars mentioned) ?
Thanks again.
Emotes....
That is a majority of them, though not the complete lists as they just put in three more. As for casual clothes, well if you take off all of your armor you will be displayed in a very "casual way". But at the moment there are no specific casual clothing that you can equip or change out that I know of. There are Taverns that can be uttilized for social events, but at the moment I hardly see anyone idle long enough to spend much time socializing. Seems to me to many people are out fighting in a war or something.
As for sitting, right now you can just take a knee, but from what I thought I saw in the Friday Feedback, they will be adding in the feature to sit completely as well as lie down. Neither of these emotes from what I see will allow you to actually sit in a chair properly. Perhaps at a later date though.
hmmm thought /fireworks was removed.
You may be right. I pulled this info from the website, and being they haven't updated it with the new emotes, it probably is inaacurate.
Definitely -- me too. I had no idea I had so much military lingo stored in the depths of my subconscious... after spending 10 years playing MMORPGs as a sword-swinging nancy boy, Tabula Rasa has allowed me to access my inner jarhead.
And there are certainly some failings that lower TR in my eyes as far as roleplaying goes. The inablity to really customize your avatar (which I suppose makes sense from a design standpoint, since you spend 99% of the game with a helmet on) and the lack of emotes.
But the game's only a few months old -- I'm quite happy NOW, and changes continue to be made to the game and will most likely keep being made. I've been IC almost 100% since stepping out of the dropship because the environment is so immersive... anything else that they add is more icing on the cake.
