Has anyone seen these idiots?

Bane82Bane82 Member UncommonPosts: 1,242

OK, I know this is stupid, and it might even be out of date. But I just found out today and I couldn't help but laugh.

I was reading a thread earlier about dumb e-mail scams and I started looking on Youtube for that commercial where a bald guy tries to pull off the nigerian e-mail scam in person to a woman in a bus (it was pretty funny) then I saw on the related topics that there were some videos on scamming and hacking WoW accounts.

Well the curiosity got the best of me and I saw these videos. At first I thought it was real and I was about to report it to Blizzard (I hadn't finished watching the whole video at the time). But then I watched it again and I ended up laughing when I saw that the e-mail that the scammer was asking you to send your account information. (it was usually something like BlizzardRetrieval@HOTMAIL.com)

/sarcasm
I didn't know that Blizzard used hotmail, yahoo or gmail accounts to retrieve sensitive information lol!
/sarcasm off

But you know what was even sadder than these idiots trying to scam you out of your account information? the fact that there were idiots who fell for it. Some of the comments saying the scame worked were obviously fake (friends, double accounts etc.) but some of them seemed genuine because they said "I've been waiting for X amount of days, when will I get my free account?" or (and this one made me laugh) "I haven't gotten it yet, man blizzard e-mail is so slow"

None of these so called "hacks" work and there are videos on youtube proving it. Oh sure, they work for the guy posting the video, but that's just because he scammed YOU out of YOUR account information.

Funny thign to note, when people asked the person who posted the youtube video if the scam would work on a trial account, they always said no... wouldn't that be a very clear sign that it was a scam? oh well, as a famous american entrepeneur said "There's one born every minute"

Just type in WoW account hack on the Youtube search box and you'll get tons of them.

  • IsomanIsoman Member UncommonPosts: 31

I suppose the old saying "There's a sucker born every minute" applies to this topic.

Well out of any MMO out today WoW is certainly the place to go to find the gullible and common sense challenged.

Youd think that PC gamers were smarter then the people that normally get scammed ( i read it on digg once, so it must be true)

I think by know if you give out information like that to a random email you deserve to lose your account.

Well, as much as I want to laugh at someones misfortune. Ive seen what hacking can do to a player, and the guild he/she is in. Its nothing to laugh at. Now, those Nigerian ones are obviously a joke. But Ive seen what viral keylogging did to some of my guildmates in WoW. They lost everything, We lost key members for our raiding, Blizz couldnt get them back up for weeks, They got pissed and left the game, the guild lost a lot of important players.

All these scams are driven because of the MMORPG gold market. That gold market wouldnt exist if we (the players) didnt support it. If you ever buy gold, and then in some future game lose one of your accounts  to a hacker, you have no right to be angry.

Wow Players are PC gamers...and honestly the average IQ is about 84, and I'm not the one that came up with that observation Tesric  from Blizzard made that statement to me and a couple guild mates at the first Blizcon when we were talking about all of the idiocy on the Official WoW forums.  Blizzard employees remind me of  James Hetfield, from Metallica, he will get on stage  play the music and bond with the audiance...but down deep he loathes his fans and wishes all of them would die in a fire...after they buy his latest album of course. But the cluless masses still adore Blizzard and fight to shove money in their pockets.

ROFL this reminded me of my friend, and his wow buddies, they would call stores and act as a representative of blizzard and fib up some baloney about the possible defects in gtc and to verify everythings fine by please read me a couple of the cards numbers so i can rucn a check on our system to make sure the cards are not defective, ....they get a lot of gtc numbers lol.

u cant stop that happening. the only way would be forcing to take an IQ test...like >80 to use the net.

i that case said scams wouldnt happen .

on the other hand there wouldnt be any single WoW player allowed to play.

  • daelnordaelnor Member UncommonPosts: 1,556

I actually saw that in DAOC several years back. Someone once went so far as to make a dummy website that asked for your account info.

it was like www.thecamelotherald.com instead of www.camelotherald.com

Something like that. It got enough people that mythic had to call it out so people would stop giving up their account info.

    D.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

So you're saying I'M the idiot for pointing out what should be an OBVIOUS scam? When these people have been told over and over NOT to give away their account and password. You're saying I'M the idiot because of these greedy and blind people that CHOOSE to violate the EULA terms by not only giving away their account information, but also for the intention of trying to hack and steal other people's account, something considered incredibly Illegal, and yet, I'M the idiot right? Talk about a case of passing the blame to someone other than the perpetrator. They knew what they were trying to do was considered illegal and they were stupid enough to end up being bamboozled. It has nothing to do with "what brain they were born with."

Yes there are scams around the world and people do get scammed. But at least a lot of the scams are well prepared and better performed (like say, the United Nations). This scam is about as silly as the "your great great uncle from africa died and he left a big fortune for you, but we need a check from you for $250.00 along with your bank account information" some scams are just too stupid and obvious and the only people who fall prey for them are people who feed off their greed and don't use their heads.

It's pretty pathetic really. Someone with an account worth scamming won't fall for it, so what's the point really. N00b Kids with LvL 40 mages and a few gold aren't really worth the effort imo, and even they won't fall for this, most of them, anyway. Realistically, it's 1 born even hour or so, and i'm not sure if they would play WoW.

Those born once an hour kids probably are proud they smelled the scam where you're paying $15 each month to play a GAME (lol), that buys you access to 1/2 a porn site, and those got titties!

There wouldn't be many people on the internet at all tbh. Seen as how the average IQ of an adult is 73. One of the useless bits of information I learned in college.

While there is some logic to you post, some people are just so dumb, you wish there was a force sterilization law to stop them from spreading the stupid gene on earth. I work as a CSR, and I deal with stupid people everyday. Sometimes it gets so depressing that I lose hope for the humankind altogether. I mean, why would any1 pour hot oil into floppy drive A to get the floppy disk out??? Explain that?
