Ok, the last time I played this game was in beta for 2 months and all the the month of Feb, 2007 and I canceled because of the bugs everyone else is complaining about. My main complaint was performance and FPS in cities. So I now ask the question many others have asked.
Has the low FPS issue in cities changed and has the lag decreased and performance gained?
Thanks...

You have a much better computer than I have and I don't have any problems with framerate anywhere (on balanced and 1280x1024 resolution). I also played at launch and now again, the performance is better overall, even much better. But they still have some work to do before the game is fully polished.
Short-answer [very busy atm]: Yes.
You have the system that can perform Vanguard well, and that makes a major difference to experience the 1) world immersion, 2) content, and 3) gameplay that Vanguard has to offer.
If you like 1) world immersion, 2) fun and diverse classes, 3) intense and challenging combat, 4) slow leveling, 5) tedious but complex crafting and 6) death penalty with a slight sting... I suggest you get it if you have the system to play on it.

The choice is really up to you, it jsut depends on what game you wanna play because any P2P mmo has the same things as what's highlighted in yellow...
Everything depends... I suggest you get a trial and then see for yourself. I played this game a couple of months ago and had a blast but stoped subscribing because of the performance issues (sorry, 29FPS just isn't enough) but I will probably get a new graphic card as a christmas gift(and if I don't I will just buy one myself) so I'm thinking about subscribing again.
I believe it was said in the next major patch FPS in cities would be greatly increased. I haven't logged onto test to see for myself, but after coming back from only playing a month at release it is like night and day for me. Totally different game from when I ran it last January.
May want to wait till the next update which is suppose to fix the lag in cities.

When is that patch going to be released?
I'm not sure though. I'd have to go check the forum for the announcement.

I recently canceled and I had no performance issues at all. Not a single one.
The problem I had was that I felt like I was all alone; there seem to be so few people playing it. Cities and outposts should be bustling with activity, but all you really see is the occasional player. The only other issue I had was that I felt the world was a little too bland. Sure, the graphics are nice, but there just isn't much to see.
If there was a significant surge in population, I would consider playing the game again.
I hope SOE put some free trial to get new players in game soon!
The world is so dang massive though so sometimes it can feel empty. I really like the scenery and don't find it bland, but that's a matter of opinion.
Best of luck to you in whatever game you choose. Hope you return one day. Cya.

Talked to support about that. They plan to release trials after Update4 I THINK. The GM wasn't giving me an exact time frame, but he said a re-release is being discussed. So good things are coming even more. Lets just keep hoping eh?

I really do hope that they put in a real effort to polish this game and start building on what they have now. However, if the rumors about the current dev team size are even remotly true it does not sound good. You don't drop an MMO dev team to 20ish people if you are making a serious effort towards a re-release/re-marketing of a game. Yes, I realize that the launch did not go well and things need to cool down and fixes need to be made and such before people would consider trying again (or if they were scared off then for the first time), but it comes down to pure resource allocation. SOE can do one of two things with this game:
1) Give it some resources to quickly and publicly make it better before doing a push to get people back
or
2) Simmer it on a backburner with a minimum of resources and wait for the polish and average pc specs to catch up and see if people start to come back of their own accord. Then, if it starts to pick up steam, give it some resources to expand.
From what I can tell it seems that they are taking approach number 2, which makes sense from a business standpoint but IMO does not bode well for VSOH's future. I would argue that as publicly bad as the luanch was it can be remidied into a pretty darn good game but only if it is quickly and very publicly made better. People have to know that SOE wants the game to succeed still. Right now I just dont see that. VSOH exudes the red headed step child vibe. It seems more part of the past than the future, which is very very bad for an MMO.
I hope I'm wrong
This game is not going anywhere. Its pure Station Access dumpings for SOE.
I have tried this game 3 times now with months in between, and its still a disapointment. Wait a year and see what happens before you play it. Im going to try it again in 6 months if its still alive....
People keep saying wait 3 months wait 6 months wait 1 year etc, by that time you're left far behind from everyone else and you're going to be playing "catch up" the only people you will see are alts of people who've already gotten their main beefed up...I've been in your situation, i played it 4 times on and off and can still say its a dissappointment, but while you're waiting for the game to "get better" its going to get worse because you're expecting some changes from before and its not likely going to happen...The only things i can see happening is better fps (maybe) and this game becoming more like eq and eq2...
Im dont mean to be flaming you because i wanted this game to be good as well, but by the way its going i highly doubt it...i like playing games where i get hooked from start and even if its got tons of bugs and errors, i'll stick by it no matter what because once you play it things will "change" good or bad throughout the course of its time...but if you wait 3-6 months or even a year for a game to get better you're probably going to end up playing some other game thats better already...too bad most new games out there cant be polished (there were bugs but not so bad for people to quit) like WoW anymore and you'll not likely see other games like that for a long while..
we got 1 more month until this game reaches its 1 year birthday in january since release, i didnt see TOO much changes at all...i dont know how it is right now because i havent played it for a while, but still you dont see much people playing it anymore, like when it first went live, things were so much better when it began, even started out together and now they should all be maxxed out in level and crafting and diplomacy...so like i said the more you wait the more you'll have to catch up to how things are going..
But im assuming you've already have a character thats up there, but for the new people who wants to try this game, it'll be tough...
The game is tough. It should not be a walk in thre park. There is tons of solo content and if you like a challenge then VSOH is for you. My wishes are that the agrro was not as bad as it is now and that there were more people playing. I have had ther opportunity to group and that was fun but the aggro is the worst. In summary, give the game a try. If you do not like it you can always write about it here.

The problem is that this is already happening. Thats why there are almost no new players in the lower tiers in the game and you feel very alone, soloing alot of content and never getting to experience the really cool quests.
The last major thing I did in the game was the Hunter League quests, and it was awesome. Then I left and came back 4 months later, and started almost a solo carriere. Thats why games must be at their best when they are released. Those who "survive" a horrible launch and play the game are of course at end game already, playing alts.
So how can new players enjoy this? I'll let you know. More new players need to play, but how?
1. First things must be fixed, like now. But SOE has a skeleton life support crew on this game. So what future is there. Almost everyone who have been playing mmos a while, willl check out the future potential before spending 1000+ hours on a game. If they see none, why should they want to play?
2. Marketing and advertising. SOE does nothing to advertise and sell this game. Now this is a very very bad thing for a mmo. When ppl dont buy it, they dont play it and no low level team m8's for the rest of the players in there. Resulting in a solo player game. This game is non existing on the game charts.
3. A trial must be delivered. I saw another post here somewhere stating that someone had talked to Support in VG. They said that there might be one in 2008? Cant remember correctly. No trial, no new players. And it should be a open trial, no newbie isle. Let the players immerse into the real world with a 14 day trial. Then they have a low level population, for a while.
I feel sorry for those starting new characters now. They will not get to experience quests such as The Hunters League, because they cannot assemble a team for it. Too bad
I agree with all of your points and hope that when I play it won't be such a solo game
and also I hope there is no trial island, EQ2's trial island stopped me from buying the game... I couldn't talk in the channels and I couldn't PM anyone so I played solo, never had questions answered and never experienced the main city which led to a boring isolated experience
If they go the same route I don't think people will buy Vanguard when it is all set and done
The game is fixed and the population is strong.
Let's just rejoice that if you dislike the game, its concepts, its world that you no longer pay the fee.
When I play my main and alts, I constantly run into players and never have had a difficult time finding a group.
