No real long explanation here.. Probably the most random thought I've ever had, but here goes..
Who would definitely pick up a retail copy of a new and improved Dark Age of Camelot? WAR is going to be different, not to mention a big change in IP.. Who would love to see the Arthurian, Irish, and Norse legends all blended together again in a revamped form? Maybe revamp the UI for something a little less stale, upgrade in the graphics (Catacombs was released how many years ago?), maybe some added animations to make it feel more like a current gen MMO. Of course keeping the classic server gameplay going ..
Anyways, just a random thought of mine. Personally, I would absolutely love something like this. They would have me sold from the time they announced it to the time they shut the servers down granted they didn't stray too far from the original classes, skills, races, and questing. It's a classic, why not give it another round? Am I alone on this?

Is this a joke? You do know I have the same exact thread going with the same topic 6 threads below yours. I recommend browsing the front page of a forum before posting, so that the same topic isn't re-created again and again. I'm not trying to be a dick here. Creating a new thread like you did now makes everyone have to repeat what they said on my thread on yours, when you could have just used mine and added to it. Making it to where there is one source of information on the subject, than two.
P.S.- I know people have created the subject before me, but necroing a thread is a no no. My thread is still on the front page and this person didn't even take the time to check.

Very true.. Not sure why I didn't see it. This thread needs deleting. Apologies.

Bah! I'm sorry too. I jumped to the conclusion that you're a lazy idiot who doesn't like to take the time to read the forums before posting and I was wrong. I guess I am just mmorpg.com jaded.

Bah, the idea deserves mentioning it twice.
However, am I the only one who feels that WAR is for all intents, DAOC2?

I'm not sure you understand the spirit of what DAoC was and what mechanics of WAR are against that spirit. In DAoC, the majority of people grouped for xp. The reason being is because grouping was the best form of xp and camping mobs and dungeon crawls was how you did it. WAR will have quests to do for xp, which will take away the grouping dynamics of PvE. How many people do you know in questing games that find a group as soon as they log on as opposed to finding a group when they encounter a group quest?
What about realism? The graphics of DAoC is realistic, whereas WAR and WoW share the similar cartoony graphics. The RvR concepts aren't the same either. DAoC had RvR in seperate zones, so that PvErs weren't forced into PvP. WAR I think has contested zones or something similar where the RvR is going on in the same world as the PvE is.
Now what about the class diversity? DAoC has over 24 classes. Each class has 3 different specs you can use. Contrary to popular elitists belief, every spec has their strengths and uses in DAoC. WAR on the other hand has far fewer classes and only one way to play them as far as I can tell. Similar to WoW in that regard. Lastly, you have community.
Compare the type of community you have gravitating to WAR that DAoC had in its prime. Huge difference. So it's a no brainer why WAR is not thought of as DAoC 2 by most people.

Actually WAR has 24 classes. Each of the 6 "realms" has 4 classes. DAOC has 45 classes.
I would add on to this that DAOC has instanced RvR. "Winning" zones is based on a point system not actual battles. You grind instances solo, in group, and then some open RvR stuff and eventually your side "wins" the zone based on the number of points. Think of it as a complicated basketball game.
Opening up the capital city to finall "win" involves grinding instances. This is idiotic. I mean the defending side has no chance to actually push the attackers back. They can delay the one side from winning instances to get the points they need, but that is it. All they can do is fight in the city once the doors have come down.
I doubt the class system will be anything like DAOC in terms of specialization.
The zone and world design will likely follow games like LotRo. So if you like starting in one spot, following a road to another spot and so on then you should like WAR.
The closest game to DAOC coming out is going to be AoC, The problem with AoC is the first 20 levels will be solo and the combat system being different. But at least it is more of a spiritual successor that WAR will be.
I think all successful games need a revamp and relaunch. Maybe end the first version, take it down, then launch the sequel. Or run concurrently (i.e., First Age, Second Age, etc.).
DAOC was a great game, It had quests, but not so many as to give the feeling of linear RPG play like WOW, LOTRO and a few others.
Sure, revamp, remake, and relaunch DAOC. Do the same for EQ, I say. (No, not EQ2, scrap that, but relaunch EQ1).
I'm with the same line of thinking when you say AoC is DAoC's spiritual successor. I plan to play AoC, but I am not sure about the new combat system. If it aint broke, don't fix it. I never minded the hotbar full of skills combat, or action queus. It gives a person the ability to eat and chat while you are fighting. Doesn't sound like AoC will allow you to eat lunch or snacks while you are fighting or have a conversation with others without missing a swing or spell cast. Their combat system is taking away a social element that DAoC allowed, but adding one with player ran cities. So I will hold my judgement until I hear some good reviews on it.
