Looking bad for WAR

Wow - this game looks pretty bad. {Mod Edit} but I have seen it again in many of the movies and all I can say is it had better have unbelievable gameplay. Stylistically it isn't too bad - cartoony worked for WoW, but the human models ouch - just plain garbage.
The animations are pretty rough over-all as well. Only playing the game will reveal but at this point it simply looks bad.

Watch the video that specifically shows animations and I'll bet you'll change your mind on how good they are.
Yes, a lot of those videos are pretty bad, but I've got a friend who's in beta, (Oh, no!!! He broke the Agreement!!! There I did it for you all already.) and the game looks MUCH nicer when it's actually being played. I hear they also haven't finished the lighting effects yet, which should really help.
The graphics ARE a bit cartoony though. More so than I had hoped for. But their not nearly as cartoony as WoW, and I think after all the work has been finished on this game, it should shine.
I'll need to see the finished product but as for now it just looks bad. I am hopeful and some of what you say makes sense. I'm not finding a lot of people arguing for the graphics here so let's just hope it is amazing to play to get around that rough look.
the game is still being developed. it isn't done. anything that isn't done looks like crap. you didn't look too promising in your mother's womb before you were born, hell even after your birth u didn't look like much of a human. give "works in progress" some slack b4 u try to stroke yer own egos.
edit; not directly aimed at swaindaddy, just any1 and every1 who likes to judge any kind of work b4 its complete. i'm excited about WaR, right now it looks not so good, but cuz its not done!
I disagree. Several games have looked great 3 or 4 months from release. Conan looked good last year. Whether you like that game or not - just a point. Again - I will have to see major improvements or experience AMAZING gameplay to justify what they have now.

Scheduled for Q2 release at the moment. According to the Official site - but maybe you know something the devs don't.

I completely agree. I remember playing EQ2 in beta. It was absolutely the most horrible game I've ever played.
Well, it came out, and I tried it again, it still sucked pretty bad, lol, it took them a while to really get that game to be as good as it is now, but as far as being aesthetically pleasing, it was far superior to it's beta counterpart.
That is precisely what I a hoping for here. I just wanted to make the observation that it looks horrid now.
I haven't seen many animations, so I can't really comment on that, but the models look fantastic. Nicely crafted and fantastically textured. And what do you mean by cartoony? I'll pull up this great comparison someone made a while back

I've seen plenty of WAR stuff, but it doesn't seem to be all that bad - pretty good, actually, IMO.
Well when I first heard about warhammer I imagined a more realistic, gory world. Unfortunately for me, mythic did the right thing and went with what would sell to gamers, ones who have both good and not so good computers, thus allowing them to make more money, have a larger community, and be able to come out with new content more often.
The reason I said it's not like WoW is because, like you showed, the models are fantastic for the kind of artwork that mythic went with.

The models are fantastic? Really. Maybe I am missing something. I'm not trying to be hard headed and all but do you guys really think the models look good?

Well could you be more specific as to why exactly they're so horrible? Other than it being "cartoony", which I don't really get (look at my screenshot comparison)
FOR THE KIND OF ARTWORK!!! Which, like I said, is the kind that will draw the most subscribers!!! Do you think WoW drew so many people because of its FANTASTIC gameplay??? A lot played it because their computers could actually handle it. I actually enjoy the game now, though I don't play it, it's too easy, and the graphics are too cartoony, but that's because they made enough money that they were able to improve the game at a faster rate.
Saw the comparison. Why the WoW comparison? Cartoony doesn't mean WOW - it means cartoony.
The models look bad graphically. I can't say it any clearer or explain what that means. Bad. The hands are blocks, the "feet" a term I use loosly because they all seem to have a square cloak merged with the bottom of the ground, look like pixelated blocks. The details of the clothes look like textured pictures versus detailed equipment.
Just a few things. Again, not saying the game will be a crapwad just that it doesn't look very good.

I agree, WoW wanted to be cartoony and set out to do it and did a great job. War has a more gritty and less disneyish look, set out to do that and did it great.
As a matter of fact - yes - I believe people play it because they enjoy the gameplay and world. I doubt many people pay 15$ a month because their computer can run a game LOL.
Nah, just different strokes different folks. And they do paint those textures in photoshop, though admittedly it does look a little jaggedy blocky in that one screenshot. But artwise, I think everything is spot on, and great art can make up for bad technology
Yes the game was a let down, but it's just had a major overhaul and about to go back into beta. Yes.... closed beta. Don't you people think it's a bit early to be making judgements about a game from it's early closed beta especially when the developers are in the middle of changing the things that were wrong with the game?
I'm sure there are a lot of people who DO enjoy it, but the massive numbers, and I say this because of a large number of friends who play it for this very reason, can be attributed to the fact that there computers can run it at and make it look like the game is meant to look, rather than just a poor quality version of a game that could look much better.

everything is meticulously detailed and crafted. Sure the wall is a flat texture,the chainmail texture isn't clean and crisp, and his hands aren't exactly gripping those hammer handles. Some of these adjustments are needed so the game doesn't blow up when a lot of people gather in the same area. They're just working around what limitations are given to them, and are doing a great job with what they have so far

And I'm saying this as someone who has bigger expectations of the MMO market than WAR could possibly provide - than anything could possibly provide before 2012, I think. I look at WAR, and I say, "Okay, this looks pretty good.". It's not super-awesome or awe-inspiring, but it's not BAD, and I'm not really sure where you get off saying it is.
You're not even providing any good reasons as to WHY it's bad - your points aren't even valid as far as I can see. "Blocky hands"? I don't see what you're seeing. That's why I think you look kind of like a troll - however, I'm not really sure you are one.
What games have I been playing? Well, most recently, World of Warcraft - so far as MMOs go. Others include Hellgate London, and VtM: Bloodlines.
