Well I'm going to be getting this new machine, and I ordered everything, it's going to arrive here toomorow, and I was wondering if I need a cooler for this baby? If I don't overlock it or anything, It doesn't come with a cooler so would it be bad if I ran it without it? Any opinions?

umm..
if you're serious, yes you MUST use a cooler. the retail package cooler is fine for "normal" use.
do not..
DO NOT even power that computer up without a heatsink on the cpu.

D.
so wait, what does this come with? http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?Sku=CP2-DUO-Q6600
that's an OEM processor. the retail boxed package comes with a heatsink and usually costs about 20 or 30 bucks more.
again... you MUST purchase a heatsink. MAKE SURE it's rated to cool that model processor AS WELL AS fitting the processor socket of your motherboard.
*edit*
.. hang on.. back up.. you said you're "getting a new machine". what does that mean, did you order the parts to build your own or did you buy a complete rig ?

"Note: A CPU cooling fan is not included with OEM CPUs, but may be added separately."

lol that's what i wanted to know :P
thanks
I'm running a Q6600 and I can say from experience that yes, you definitely need a fan and heat sink on it.
This is the cooler / heatsink that I run: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134
Cooling is very, very important for this processor. I had some difficulty properly mounting this cooler, and during the time that it was not making proper contact with the processor the heat quickly spiked to such a level that the system simply turned off. This happened within a minute, maybe two.
I do not over clock my system.
I now run the XClio case plus the above cooler and an extra 120mm fan in the back.. ;D
